"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"(English) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ) - movie, the third part of the adventure-comedy cycle, made in epic genre. The world premiere of the film took place on May 19, 2007 at Disneyland Park, Anaheim, California, in the format of May 24, 2007 in Russian.

Like the previous two films in the trilogy, the film was directed by Gore Verbinski. Filming took place in two stages - in 2005 and 2006 (in the first case, in parallel with the filming of the second part). The film was received ambiguously by critics and audiences, but was very successful at the box office. Earning US$960 million worldwide (against a budget of US$300 million), the film became the highest-grossing film of 2007 and the second highest-grossing film in the trilogy.

Well, who will remain indifferent to the mystical adventures of dashing pirates?

The film “Pirates of the Caribbean” first appeared in 2003 and became so popular that director Gore Verbinski decided to film subsequent parts.

The name of this attraction later became the name of an entire cinema era. And the film premiered on June 28, 2003 at Disneyland itself.

By the way, this movie was the first film shown at an American amusement park.

After the premiere, the attraction was closed for reconstruction and several unforgettable quests based on the film were added.

Actors, characters, attributes

30. Johnny Depp completely changed the movie

Initially, the hero of Johnny Depp was planned as one of minor characters film. However, the amazing charisma of the radiant actor made him the most striking and memorable character.

Depp himself said that in the original script his character was an ordinary thug, brandished a sword, hung out with women and that’s it. Then Johnny decided to complement the image of the hero and went to... the sauna. The fact is that the pirate spent most of his time on the open sea in the sun, so Depp logically decided that he could feel all the torments of a pirate in the sauna.

The actor barely crawled out of the sauna, but he came up with his facial expressions, habits and the famous swaying gait. However, he does not deny that he copied part of the image from one of his best friends, Keith Richards.

The actor also inserted gold-plated dental implants into himself, but they a large number of The director didn’t like it and asked to leave a few “golden” teeth.

By the way, the producers of the film were unhappy with the serious changes in the character and the script; they even assigned a special “informer” to Depp, who monitored the actor’s performance and immediately reported “upward” about all cases of deviation from the script. Fortunately, the film's director, Gore Verbinski, supported the actor in all his improvisations.

It’s what brought the franchise to such a high level.

31. Could the film have happened without Depp?

He agreed to filming even before he had read all the material in detail.

Christopher Walken and Christopher Walken took part in the casting for the role of Jack. He could have gotten lost in his track record, compared to others.

32. Quotes from Captain Jack Sparrow

Some phrases that have become “cult”, e.g. popular expression the nimble captain's “are you smart?” were improvisations by the actor. Moreover, during filming, the artist often improvised, and some moments that appeared on the screen were his initiative, and not the intention of the writers.

More phrases:

I like the pirate life, I'm Captain Jack Sparrow! Do you dare?

Do you know this feeling: you are standing on the edge of a cliff, and you want to jump down?... I don’t have it.

How did you end up in the Spanish monastery?
- I took it for a brothel. Easy to confuse.

Once you die, your priorities immediately change.

Did everyone see this?! Because I refuse to repeat it!

But he somehow stumbled upon the stumbling block of all men.
- What is this stone? The sea, algebra, the dichotomy of good and evil?
- Women.

Okay, I'll take you. I won't take you - you're terrible.

Jack. We wouldn't have succeeded anyway.
- Repeat this to yourself often, darling.

Captain, let me report on the impending riot: I'm ready to point fingers and point names.

So you deceived me by telling the truth?
- Yes.
- Original move. Need to remember.

This suit doesn't suit you. You either need a dress or nothing... I prefer nothing.

Can you live with this? Are you dooming another person to eternal chains, while you yourself will have fun, walk and drink?
- Mmm, yes. That's for me.

My ship is incomparable and proud. And it's almost huge! And he... swam away.

Who forges these swords?
- I'm forging! And I practice fencing three hours a day.
- Better find yourself a girl!

At least someone saved me because they were bored?!

I am pregnant!
- I don’t remember that we...
- Were you drunk!!
- I don’t remember getting so drunk!

Okay, I'll cover your ass.
- I'm more worried about the front.

No one can move! I dropped my brains.

Yes! I lied to you. No! I do not love you. Of course it makes you fat! I've never been to Brussels. The word “bloodthirsty” must be pronounced with an “F”. By the way, no, I don't know Columbus, but I love flower beds. But all this pales and pales in comparison with the fact that my ship was taken away from me again! Are you smart?

Am I dreaming?
- No.
- I knew it... There would be rum in the dream.

Mr. Gibbs, throw my hat in the air.
- It's an honor for me. Hooray!
- Bring it back.

33. Jack Sparrow tattoo

Jack's clothes, makeup and accessories were chosen in such a way as to hide the numerous tattoos on the artist's body.

34. What you won’t do for the sake of an image

The filming took place in an open space, so most of the actors wore contact lenses to avoid squinting from the scorching sun.

I got hair extensions because the actress's hair was too short. And in one of the scenes she had to jump into the ocean on her own.

35. Keira Knightley's mom

The performer of the role of Elizabeth Swan, Keira Knightley, was always with her mother on the set of the first film, since she was underage at that time.

36. Rock star as a legendary pirate!

The artist copied Sparrow’s behavior and manners from his close friendfamous singer, songwriter The group Rolling Stones and the brutal conqueror of women's hearts Keith Richards. According to Depp, if this were the 18th century, this singer would probably be a legendary conqueror of the seas, a treasure thief and a damn charming villain.

The role of Captain Teague, the keeper of the code of honor and the father of Jack Sparrow, starred Keith Richards, whose image Depp embodied in his hero.

37. Keira Knightley's novel by Johnny Depp

After the premiere of the first part, Kira was credited with an affair with Depp, but none of the actors confirmed this; moreover, Johnny admitted that Kira was almost 20 years younger than him, and he could not perceive her as an adult woman.

38. My ship is incomparable and proud. And it's almost huge! And he... swam away

The Black Pearl is the only real ship, not a decoration.

39. The weather is indignant

During filming, a crazy hurricane began on the island, so the acting troupe was put on a plane and brought to the States.

40. Not fate

Christopher Walken, who failed the casting for the role of Captain Sparrow, auditioned for the role of the mystical character Davy Jones, but also did not make it.

41. Pirate Covenants

During the filming, it turned out that the real pirates actually had a council that resolved most disputes, only it was called the Brotherhood of the Coast.

The Pirate Code also exists in reality, only the authentic Talmud reaches a height of 75 cm and weighs over 30 kg, so a version weighing 4 kg was created for Captain Teague.

42. The inimitable Captain Jack!

Behind long time During the filming, the entire creative team became so friendly that at the end of the process, the guys gave Johnny Depp a giant cake with the image of floating ships and a touching inscription: “Our dear Captain Sparrow, may your compass always lead you to us!”

43. Pirate passions

The captain of the black pearl performs 70% of the most difficult stunts himself, without the help of a stunt double.

All types of weapons used in the film were real, and the main character's pistol and sword are rare weapons of the 18th century.

44. Who is stronger?

According to the writers' comments, the best swordsman in the franchise is Will Turner, followed by Barbossa and Commodore Norrington. But Jack Sparrow is the worst of all, it is not surprising that he prefers to run away from the battlefield.

45. Main characters

Only three main film characters were present in all five films released on this moment- Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally).

All other characters were removed or added, depending on the part. So Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann/Turner (Keira Knightley) were the main actors only in the first three parts.

The second part collected $135.6 million in the first 2 days of release; so far no film has managed to overcome this record. The distribution of the fourth part brought the creators more than $1 billion.

48. Crisis of the 5th part

The fifth part of the film “Dead Men Tell No Tales” was supposed to appear on screens in 2015, but due to a lack of funds in the film’s budget, the premiere had to be postponed by 2 years.

49. Failure after a record

50. Release date

On March 4, 2017, director Joaquim Ronning hinted that the fifth installment in the franchise would not be the last. The new film is expected to be released in 2020-2021.

51. Without Johnny Depp

No matter how charismatic the hero Captain Jack Sparrow was, he has outlived his usefulness in this franchise. This is clearly seen in the fourth and fifth parts, where his character could well have been replaced by any other pirate. That is why in the sixth part the creators want to do without Johnny Depp.

52. Who will be the new hero?

The new hero will be... a pirate named Redd. She is the heroine of the original Disneyland attraction, so it makes sense that new story will be dedicated to her. We will soon find out who will play the pirate and whether she will stay for more than one film.

53. What about the rest of the heroes?

Again, there is no exact information; many of our favorite heroes may well receive small cameo roles. But the main characters must change completely.

54. The script is already being written

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who previously worked on the script for Deadpool, are already working on the script for the new film.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” is a series of films produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, consisting of four parts released in theaters and one expected in 2017. First, let's describe the main characters of this series of films.

Main characters

1. The main positive character around whom all the action in the film unfolds is a pirate Jack Sparrow(Johnny Depp).

As you know, pirates are sea robbers who oppose the law and authority, engage in robbery, robbery and, in general, lead an obscene lifestyle. What we see here: the creators of Pirates of the Caribbean, on the contrary, offer the robber as a positive character.

It would seem that as a positive character, and therefore, as a role model for the viewer, Jack Sparrow should carry certain educational traits, nobility, or improve during the course of the film, but everything is quite the opposite. The main character of "Pirates..." is characterized by such qualities and characteristics as meanness, selfishness, selfishness, cowardice, love of drinking, etc. The listed qualities remain with Jack throughout all the films, and, moreover, it is thanks to them that he somehow manages to think through everything and constantly get away with it.

2. Elizabeth Swann(Keira Knightley) – the daughter of the governor, who has been distinguished by her sympathies for pirates since childhood. First she appears before us in the form of an intelligent, well-mannered girl. However, as the film progresses, she changes for the worse and at the beginning of the third part (“At the End of the World”) she is already a notorious pirate, for whom all means are good in order to achieve her goal.

3. Will Turner(Orlando Bloom) – son of a pirate. As a child, he was found on the wreckage of a pirate ship. Elizabeth took off his pirate medallion in fear that the adults would realize who he was. From that time on, he grew up as a man of honor and dignity, being in love with his savior, and his feelings were not unrequited.

He contacted Jack Sparrow to free Elizabeth, who was captured by ghost pirates. After the adventures he had experienced, he clearly liked piracy, and he gradually became one of them, often acting against his conscience, achieving his goal through meanness and deceit.

As the series progresses, Will Turner becomes more and more dishonest: in the third part, in order to save his father, he betrays his pirate friends, concluding an agreement with his enemies, as a result of which his crew is captured. Each of Will's dastardly deeds is covered up by supposedly noble intentions, which promotes the assiduously promoted Hollywood principle: "The ends justify the means."

4. Captain Hector Barbossa(Geoffrey Rush) - pirate, became captain after mutiny on Jack Sparrow's ship. Characteristic qualities: meanness, selfishness, selfishness, greed, etc. In the first part he appears to us as a negative character, but in the rest he is positive, which supports the trend of mixing good and evil in the franchise.

good and evil

The creators of many films and cartoons that were released over the past last years, are diligently trying to confuse the concepts of good and evil, instilling in us and, above all, our children, that everything good is bad, and everything bad is good. "Pirates of the Caribbean" is no exception. Thus, good in films is represented by vile pirates who care only about their own benefit and endlessly betray each other. Moreover, these endless betrayals do not in any way affect their friendly relations. The evil side in the film is represented either by other, even more bloodthirsty pirates (but there are few of them, about one character per film), or by soldiers who serve their homeland with honor (in each part).

We must admit that main character– Jack Sparrow – at the end of each part he commits an act against his vile principles, guided by the dictates of his conscience. This, of course, is very good at first glance, but not everything is so simple. The films carefully show that there is no “boomerang law”, and every time Jack does something good, doing something with honor and courage, everything turns back on him. For good, the hero receives evil, and this forms a corresponding understanding in the viewer: good, good deeds are bad, since they entail problems and failures as a result. Let's consider specific examples:

  • "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

At the end of the first part, Captain Jack Sparrow shows that he is far from indifferent to the fate of Will and Elizabeth, and helps them return home, as a result of which he is sentenced to death penalty. The rest of the pirates have to save him.

  • "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

At the end of the second part, the ship carrying Jack and his crew is attacked by the sea monster Kraken, and Captain Sparrow escapes by boat. However, apparently having heard the voice of conscience, he returns and saves his team. Everyone boards the boat to set sail before the Kraken strikes a second time, and at this time Elizabeth tricks and cuffs Jack:

- He needs you - not the ship, not others. And we have no choice. I'm not ashamed…
- Pirate...

  • "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."

Throughout the third part, Captain Jack Sparrow dreamed of piercing the heart of Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) in order to become the immortal captain of the ship "The Flying Dutchman" and plow the seas forever. However, Will Turner is mortally wounded, and then Captain Sparrow pierces Jones's heart with his hand, saying goodbye to his dream for the sake of the life of another. Noble act, but what do we see next? In the end, Jack is again deceived by his crew and loses his ship. But, “thanks” to his lack of faith in people, cunning and meanness, he cut out a fragment of the map in advance, which indicated the path to the fountain of youth.

  • "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

This part is devoted to the search for the fountain of youth. In addition to Jack, the captain of the ship Queen Anne's Revenge, nicknamed Blackbeard, became seriously interested in this source. At the end of the film, Blackbeard is mortally wounded and is ready to sacrifice the life of his daughter in order to survive. However, Jack Sparrow exchanges two bowls for the ritual and saves Blackbeard’s daughter, who appears in this part as a positive hero (she served in a monastery and was preparing to take monastic vows, but succumbed to the temptation of Jack Sparrow, who, in his words, “took the monastery for a brothel” ). As a result, the ship “Queen Anne's Revenge” goes to Captain Barbossa, who deceived Jack at the end of the previous part and whose goal throughout this film was revenge on Blackbeard. And Jack again finds himself with almost nothing (he got the ships locked in bottles with the help of a spell, and he still has to somehow free them).

The image of a woman and the theme of family

Love today, like a hat, was thrown off.
Hearts so rarely beat with delight.
Love seems to have been pushed into a corner,
They almost laugh at her now.

Love is not something that is completely forgotten,
And how would they write a new text?
She was almost easily replaced
On drunkenness, porn videos and sex.
<…>
They think like this: freedom is freedom!
Why are we worse than foreign countries?!
And they pour rubbish on the heads of the people,
And prostitutes climb onto the screen...
E. Asadov

Basically, all the female characters in the film are pirates. They don’t raise children, don’t give care and love. Their role is similar to the role of the male half: they fight, drink, cheat, etc. In fact, a woman, like a man, is created with a certain set of dominant skills and abilities, only different. « She gives life, fills this world with beauty and harmony, gives her care and love, inspires deeds. She is a source of kindness and compassion, she is simple and incomprehensible..."(Quote from the film of the organization “Common Cause”: “The Secret of the Nature of Women”). However, in the film everything is exactly the opposite. All female representatives are either pirates, lie, steal, kill and betray, or are generally harlots.

There are no examples in the film good families. Elizabeth was raised only by her father. Will finds his father in the second part, but nothing is said about his mother. Only at the end of the third part after the credits does a positive family image appear - we are shown Elizabeth and her child awaiting Will’s arrival.

Bad habits

alcohol is present in incredible large quantities. Its use, not only does not have a negative effect, but also contributes to the courage, endurance and mental abilities of the heroes. Love is practically not shown in films (with the exception of Will and Elizabeth). Basically, passion based on ordinary sexual instinct is depicted. Several times during the film they try to undress Elizabeth. There is nothing explicit in the film, but the very vulgarity of the characters leaves a negative mark. The main character Jack Sparrow does not have a lover, however, as we learn over the course of four parts, he had many casual relationships (including with harlots). Violence is present frequently and in many forms. Main goodies They do not try in any way to avoid unfortunate victims, but simply kill everyone indiscriminately.

Morality:

The film aims to educate the following life principles:

  • Live for your own pleasure (take everything and give nothing).
  • If you really want to achieve something, achieve it by any means necessary (“the end justifies the means”).
  • First of all, take care of yourself, everyone around you is traitors and scoundrels.
  • There is no cycle of good, and the return for good can be evil.
  • You can lie, deceive, betray and still remain a good person.
  • Alcohol does not affect human health in any way.

The film also contains:

Confusing the concepts of good and evil, promoting feminism, discrediting the image of the family, discrediting the image of women.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2017 promises to be many times better than the previous film in the franchise. Childhood friends Joakim Ronning and Espen Sandberg once responded to Luc Besson's proposal to make the film "Bandits". For the French producer and director of Leon, this was one of the many projects of his company EuropaCorp, and for the Norwegians it was a chance to express themselves. And she said, even though the film failed at the box office.

Joakim Ronning and Espen Sandberg showed that they know how to stage action scenes without worse than that or Luc Besson. Then the career of Norwegian directors consisted of a period where they shot biopics about outstanding personalities: “Max Manus: Man of War”, “Kon-Tiki” and “Marco Polo” (the first two episodes of the series).

It is interesting that the last two projects of the Norwegians are connected with travelers who became famous for their exploits on the water. And if for “Marco Polo” they staged only the first two episodes, then for the full-length film “Kon-Tiki” they received a well-deserved Oscar nomination.

Directors and actors of the new "Pirates"

Over time, Norwegian directors were offered a larger-scale project - the fifth part of Pirates of the Caribbean. At the moment, the subtitle says that dead men tell no tales, and therefore it can already be assumed that we are in for another battle between Jack Sparrow and his team with the other world.

The project is notable not only for the presence of Norwegian directors in the directors' chairs, but simply for the fact that Johnny Depp will finally return to the big screens in the image of a hero loved by many viewers around the world. And although the previous part slightly disappointed fans, the new adventures of Jack Sparrow, according to the producers, will have to rehabilitate them in the eyes of Pirates of the Caribbean fans in 2017.

In addition to the directors, it is worth noting the presence of Orlando Bloom in the cast. First, the British actor delights his fans with the appearance of Legolas in the second part of the Hobbit trilogy, and now he will make them happy with his presence in the fifth part of The Pirates. Even Will Turner's absence from On Stranger Tides won't affect the plot of The Dead. On the contrary, the producers assure that Will Turner will significantly influence the story shown in the new film.

At the same time, Penelope Cruz is missing. It seems that her character, Angelica (if the post-credits scene in On Stranger Tides is to be believed), was meant to be a nuisance to Jack Sparrow in the sequel. But instead he will play her in The Dead real husband- Javier Bardem. The Spanish actor will take on the role of the terrible captain Salazar, with whom Jack Sparrow will fight.

What story will “The Dead” tell viewers?

The approximate plot says that Captain Salazar, along with his ghostly pirates (that's why "Dead Men" is in the title) escaped from the Devil's Triangle to deal with all competitors. The Trident of Poseidon, which is hunted by both the hero of Javier Bardem and Jack Sparrow, grants one of them power over the sea and its endless expanses.

It's entirely possible that this film could be Johnny Depp's last in the Pirates franchise, given his current status and age. And if you complete the story with dignity, no one will be offended. Moreover, no one will notice the absence of Jack Sparrow in the sequel, since he will be replaced by heroes of the new time: Henry and Karina Smith. But these are just guesses.

Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario owe their popularity to teen films. The former starred in The Initiate, while the latter starred in The Maze Runner. It’s easy to guess that if not the main, then one of the main storylines, including love. Surely both will represent Jack Sparrow's side.

What to expect from the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel in 2017

The project's cinematographer will be Paul Cameron. He has produced such films as “Déjà Vu”, “Anger”, “Accomplice”, “Total Recall”, etc. This track record suggests that viewers will be treated to incredibly beautiful action.

The fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was richly packed with jokes. But many of the jokes in this episode are references to other episodes and subtle Easter eggs. Or not very thin.

We've broken down some of them, but be warned - spoilers.

1. Mini-prequel to the entire franchise

Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, utters the phrase "Dead men tell no tales", which is included in the film's title. But we heard it before in " Curse of the Black Pearl", where the parrot said it, and also in the film " On the edge of the world" - nothing new. But then we will find out how Captain Jack Sparrow got his nickname, hat, compass and accessories, which became part of his recognizable style.

2. The Kraken doesn't talk

When Henry Turner, Will Turner's son, replies to the skeptical Karina Smith, "The Kraken doesn't talk," this is a direct reference to the film " Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest", where Will survived a kraken attack. And Henry definitely heard this story from his father and definitely believed it. By the way, Salazar's ship in attack mode looks damn similar to a kraken and should also stink: “the smell of a thousand rotting corpses,” according to the contents.

3. Monkey and One Piece

This little Easter egg became known even before the film's release. One of the Reddit users, whose relative participated in the production of the picture, said that Hector Barbossa's monkey will be dressed in an outfit similar to the clothes of Monkey D. Luffy, the main character of the manga “One Piece. Big jackpot."

4. New rock star

It's no secret that Johnny Depp has a soft spot for rock stars. Even in the first film, he borrowed elements of the image of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards for his outfit, and then helped him play the role of Jack's father, Captain Teague, in the films At World's End and On Stranger Tides" And in the new film, Paul McCartney got the tiny role of Uncle Jack, also at the suggestion of the actor.

5. Jack's least favorite joke

Jack’s uncle tells a joke that Sparrow has long disliked: “A skeleton walks into a bar and says, “I’ll have a beer and a mop.” And he is indignant because he does not understand what is funny about him. This is a cool joke from Depp, who disliked and did not understand this joke since the movie " Donnie Brasco": Al Pacino told it on the set. 6. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

But it is not exactly. Considering that Orlando Bloom played some of the main roles in the franchises “ Lord of the Rings" And " Pirates of the Caribbean", fans have long been looking for a connection between their worlds. And here you go, new fuel for controversy: Carina Smith is the “no husband” who can solve the map, and in The Return of the King it was Eowyn who killed the sorcerer king of Angmar... whom no husband could kill!

7. Popeye the Sailor

The cartoon character from the thirties of the last century loved spinach and the song “I am Popeye the Sailor Man,” which, judging by the film, Hector Barbossa also loved. His musicians played this tune just before the pirate received news of Salazar's approaching ship.

8. Historical reference

For the first time in the entire franchise, you can roughly estimate what year this film takes place. When Captain Jack Sparrow is kindly asked to choose his own execution, the British soldiers mention the newfangled French guillotine, and Jack settles on it because he loves the French, who invented mayonnaise. Firstly, the guillotine was first used in 1792, and secondly, this is a subtle barb, to confess to the British their love for the French...
