What is the Apple iCloud cloud service and how to use it? What is iCloud and how to use it

When a message appears that a backup cannot be created because there is not enough space in iCloud, the question immediately arises of how to clear iCloud storage. We will look at several ways to do this.

Method No. 1. Removing data from apps from the cloud

This problem arises for the simple reason that you are allocated only 5 GB on iCloud. At first, this is quite enough to store all the contacts there, backups and other data. But over time, all this accumulates and 5 GB becomes too little. This, by the way, is another unpleasant surprise from Apple.

You can free up some space by deleting backups. If you have photos, you can use any other cloud storage if you are afraid of losing them. Therefore, from time to time it is necessary to clear Aylaud from backups.

  • Go to the settings on your device, open the “General” section.
  • There, find the item “Storage and iCloud”, click on it. Scroll down the open window to the “Storage” section. There will be a “Manage” button, which you also need to click. The “Photos” section and a list of devices from which data is stored from iCloud will appear. If you want to delete copies of photos, select the first section, and if there are other backup copies, click on the device. We will consider the second option in detail, since with the first everything is extremely simple - click on the photo and the delete button.

Clue: If for some reason you are unable to enter the iCloud control menu in the manner described above, you can also open “iCloud” in the settings and go to “Storage”. You will be taken to the same menu.

  • On the next page you can see which applications take up how much space in the cloud storage. Set the switch to the "On" position. next to those programs whose backup copies you want to delete.
  • Scroll down the window and click on “Delete Copy.” Another window will appear asking if you really want to delete the copies. Click "Turn off and delete".

This instruction is the same for both iPhone and iPad. Unless the interface will be slightly different, the actions are completely identical.

After the above steps, the cloud storage will be slightly freed up. To delete everything from the cloud, you must first select “Photos,” delete all copies of photos, and then delete data from all programs.

Method No. 2. Creating a new backup

If you create a new backup, the old one along with all its data will be deleted.

This is done as follows:

  • In settings, find the item “iCloud” and “Backup” (it’s at the very bottom).
  • There, click on the “Create a backup” button. Wait for the creation process to complete.

Important! In some cases, you also need to enable the Backup switch. It's about on the same page as shown in Figure 3. Then the create a copy button will become available. This is a small glitch of the iOS operating system.

Now, as you understand, the old copy will be deleted and a new one will be created. At the same time, data from programs, contacts and other important information will be preserved in full.

Only the photos will be lost. But in most cases, it is because of them that cloud storage becomes very cluttered.

In some cases, it is better to connect 50 GB instead of 5 GB on the cloud. Yes, it costs money, but then you can forget about the clutter for several years. By that time, you will probably want to buy something newer and more interesting.

This pleasure costs only 1 dollar per month (0.99 USD to be exact), which is equal to approximately 59 rubles or 26 hryvnia. For most people who can afford an Apple gadget, this is quite a bit.

To purchase additional space, in the settings you need to go to “iCloud”, then to “Storage” and click on “Buy more space”. 200 GB costs 3 bucks there, and 1 TB costs 10 units of American currency.

So if running out of space is an issue, clear out everything you don't need and consider expanding your cloud.

Each user receives 5 gigabytes of space when registering an Apple ID account. In principle, this should be enough to store application data, content and backups. But not always. When the photo stream is active and you take a lot of photos or videos, if you watch movies in applications like AVPlayer, and if you simply fill the device with various software, the memory fills up and iOS persistently reports notifications. You need to either clean it or purchase additional space. Until autumn comes and delicious monthly tariffs for , I recommend the first option.

iCloud storage is cleared directly from iOS. Open system settings, then section iCloud. At the very bottom of the feed we see a menu Storage and copies, let's go.

First of all, we are interested in statistics - how much space is available from the free 5 GB, what exactly is taking up space. I have been storing backups on my computer for a long time, and yet I found several old copies of the system in my iCloud. The rest of the space is filled with applications and photos/videos in .

We remove everything that is not needed. Alternatively, you can disable backup and erase all copies at once.

If you find an error, please highlight a piece of text and click Ctrl+Enter.

If you haven't used Apple's proprietary cloud storage before, you're missing out. In addition to the fact that content is automatically distributed through iCloud (Russian iCloud) to all devices connected to the same Apple ID, you can store iPhone and iPad backups, photos, phone books, notes, calendars, etc. in it. It’s also great that changes made to iCloud from any device are automatically applied to everyone at once.

You can sing the praises of Apple and iCloud, in particular, for a long time, but let’s get to the point: “under the cut” is information about what iCloud is, what it is for, how to connect iCloud on iPhone and iPad, Mac and Windows.

System requirements for iCloud

To take full advantage of Apple's cloud technologies, the company recommends using the latest iOS versions, OS X and software (iTunes, iPhoto, Safari, iWork).

To use iCloud in a Windows environment, the following must be installed on your computer:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 or later;
  • iCloud for Windows 4.0 (free download);
  • or later;
  • Outlook 2007 or later;
  • Internet Explorer 10 or later, Firefox 22 or later, or Google Chrome 28 or later (Desktop mode only).

The minimum system requirements for each individual iCloud feature are available on the official Apple website, here.

Each user gets 5 GB free in iCloud. You can use this volume to store iCloud mail, app data from the App Store, iPhone and iPad backups, notes, calendar, etc.

For photographs there are no restrictions on their size, but there is a “ceiling” on the number. iCloud will carefully store 1,000 of your photos from the last 30 days. Earlier pictures, if the total number of photos in the “cloud” exceeds 1000, are deleted.

5 GB is provided to each iCloud user free of charge, this does not mean that the space in the cloud storage cannot be increased, as they say: “Every whim for your money!”

There are only 4 paid tariff plans in iCloud: 20, 200, 500, 1000 GB for 39, 149, 379 and 749 rubles per month, respectively. Just recently, Apple lowered the tariffs for iCloud and now they are more than pleasant.

Select or change tariff plan can be done at any time directly on your iPhone or iPad, as well as on Mac or Windows in the corresponding menu. Money to pay for cloud storage is debited from the credit or debit card connected to. If you cannot switch to a paid tariff plan, you can always go to your account settings.

iCloud registration

There is no need to register separately for iCloud; a single Apple ID account (identifier and password) is used to authorize and manage iCloud content.

How to access iCloud?

You can access iCloud content from any computer, smartphone or tablet via the Internet from a web browser; just go to http://icloud.com/ and log in with your Apple ID.

Apple devices: iPhone, iPad and Mac computers have deeper integration with iCloud; all data is downloaded from the cloud automatically.

How to connect iCloud on iPhone and iPad?

iCloud cloud storage is an integral part of the Apple eco-system and, as a result, its management is in the iOS and OS X system settings.

If you have forgotten the password to your account, you can use it. To do this, follow the active link “Forgot your Apple ID or password?”.

To connect iCloud, the following must be installed on your Windows computer: iCloud for Windows 4.0 (free download) and iTunes 12 or later.

How to disable iCloud without Apple ID password?

“Unlinking” iPhone, iPad and Mac with the “Find My iPhone, iPad or Mac” function disabled from iCloud is quite simple, just a few simple actions. If your device was “linked” in iCloud to your Apple ID and the “Find iPhone”, “Find iPad” or “Find Mac” functions are enabled, in order to exit the “cloud”, you must enter the password for your account, but and it's not difficult.

Problems arise when you have conveniently forgotten the password to your Apple ID or iCloud on the device is connected not from your Apple ID, but from, say, the account of its previous owner. In such cases there are only 2 options:

Let me remind you: blocking activation of iPhone and iPad with iOS 8.0 and higher installed. Its condition can be checked.

!Advice
If on your iPhone or iPad in “Settings -> iCloud” an Apple ID is connected to which you do not have access, restoring and updating the firmware is contraindicated for you. After flashing such a device, activation lock will turn it into “ ”.

How to disable iCloud on iPhone and iPad?

If, for some reason, you have a need or desire to “unlink” your iPhone or iPad from iCloud, for example, to restore the device (it is enough to disable only the “Find My iPhone” function, and not iCloud as a whole) or iOS updates, it's very easy to do.

How to disable iCloud on Mac and Windows computer?

On OS X and Windows, disabling iCloud is as easy as on iPhone. Again, if you have Find My Mac enabled on your Mac, to disable iCloud you will need to enter your password, not your Apple ID, but your administrator password.

And there is one “BUT” here: the same password as in iCloud can be used as the administrator password and password to unlock the Mac, i.e. from Apple ID. You can set a single password in “System settings -> Users and groups -> “Change password” button -> “Use iCloud password” button. This way there is no need to remember 2 passwords, one for Mac and one for Apple ID.

To sign out of your iCloud account on Mac:

On Windows, the procedure is similar, just launch iCloud for Windows and click on the “Exit” button.

As you can see, iCloud opens up enormous possibilities for synchronizing, restoring data, and locating a lost or stolen iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer. With its functions, Apple's cloud service has gone far ahead of its competitors and allows you to very flexibly combine all iOS and OS X devices into one system, which opens up wide horizons of possibilities for their owners. If you haven't yet connected iCloud on your iPhone or Mac, do so, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with cloud storage and its features.

iPhone and iPad users may have encountered a problem at least once in their lives - iCloud space has run out and accordingly, the photos do not go into the photo stream, a backup copy is not created and a strange inscription constantly appears... There is a way out - buy revenge on iCloud! Although you can first try to figure out who is eating up the most space and stay on the basic tariff of 5 GB. So, let's deal with the backlog of backups on your iPhone!

First, we need to go to Settings (on the device), then go to the General tab -> Statistics ( Storage and iCloud in iOS 9), which has 2 important points - Storage location ( STORAGE iOS 9) and ICLOUD. To view what is on your iPhone/iPad, you need to go to Storage in “Storage Location” - here we will see what data on the device takes up the most space. But by clicking on Storage under the inscription ICLOUD we will see the contents of iCloud and all backups:

In this window, we immediately see how many devices create a backup copy to your account. This could be all your iPhones/iPads or, suddenly, the devices of your loved ones. If you have several devices on the list, then think about whether you need to make a backup copy of them, and what needs to be backed up in it. If suddenly the list shows not your devices, but, for example, a friend’s/husband’s/wife’s, then it’s better to create their own account in iCloud, and use yours only for yourself - turn on the egoist, so to speak :) By the way, about my thoughts about accounts, you can read in the corresponding!

So, by clicking on your device in the list, in my case it is the iPhone Rifat (this iPhone), we get to a detailed list of everything that is in the backup. It may take some time for iGadget to show us the data. It took me a few seconds for the complete structured list to be displayed. But the largest objects appear almost immediately:

As you can see, in this window you can exclude something from the backup copy of your device. For example, you can remove them from the copy. When you turn off the toggle switch, this data is on the iPhone/iPad don't disappear, but are only deleted from the current copy and will not be created until you activate this function again.

Carefully review all the items, turn off items that are unimportant to you and add yourself free place in iCloud. I am sure that many will be able to increase the space, at least a little, without buying more!

If, after all your manipulations, you are still not satisfied with the remaining free space, you can buy more:

50 GB for 59 rubles per month;

200 GB for 149 rubles per month;

2 TB for 599 rubles per month;

After all the procedures performed, you should have more free space in iCloud and you can continue to back up your devices and not worry about data loss. Do you often encounter the problem of running out of space in iCloud or just on your device? Write in the comments if you want to get advice on solving this problem! 🙂

iCloud is a cloud storage service provided by Apple for storing music, photos, documents and contacts. It allows you to access your files from any device. Backup and share information with other iOS devices.

The volume that can be stored here for free is 5 GB. For photographs, the size is determined by the number of files and the size does not matter. The service will keep 1000 photos for the last 30 days, which will be more and will be deleted before that.

How to get out of the cloud

There can be many reasons why you may need to leave iCloud: from buying a used phone to losing your account password.

To sign out of iCloud on iPhone, you need to do the following:

  1. Enter “Settings”, and then “iCloud”.
  2. In this menu, at the very bottom of the list there will be an option “Log out”.
  3. After this, the account on the iOS device will be deleted and no more data will be saved.

Click on Logout

When you click the Sign Out button, a pop-up message will appear. In which there will be a warning that if deletion occurs account, then all data will be deleted.

To avoid this, you need to click “Cancel” and go to the “iCloudDrive” tab, which, if this option is enabled, saves data. You need to save the necessary information and turn off iCloud Drive.

How to clear iCloud storage on iPhone

Now, when you click “Log Out” again on your account, a message may appear stating that if you delete your profile, photos stored in Photo Stream and documents located in the cloud will be deleted from your smartphone.

Accordingly, if there is important and valuable data there, then it is necessary to transfer it. For example, if we are talking about photographs, then you need to move them from Photo Stream to Camera Roll.

Then you should return to the menu, select “Photos” and opposite the “My photo streams” and “Photo sharing” options, move the switch to “Off”.

Now you need to go back to the menu and try to delete your account.

The application may ask what to do with Saphari objects, calendar and contacts. Several options will be offered:

  • “Leave on iPhone” - and then all contacts and dates will be available on the device.
  • “Delete from iPhone” - and then the data will be erased.

To clear it, you need to go to “Settings” - “iCloud” and select “Storage”. A list of files will appear; to erase them, just swipe it with your finger or do it through the “Edit” menu.

But in both cases, the information will be available in the cloud. To check this, you need to go to the Apple cloud website and log into your account. When you enter your previous password and login, the contacts and dates of this account will appear.

Untether iPhone from the cloud

To unlink your iPhone from iCloud, you need to go to http/icloud.com from your PC using your Apple ID credentials and iPhone password.

  • Go to the “Find iPhone” tab
