The main document reflecting the most important and significant information about the child is the pedagogical characteristics. In the cadet corps, this document is drawn up by an officer-educator or class teacher. Typically the following information is included:

  • at what age did you enter the cadet corps and what was the degree of preparedness?
  • how long has the child been in the cadet corps and what school did he come from?
  • Features of a child’s adaptation to the cadet corps
  • How does the cadet perform and what are the difficulties in mastering the program?
  • Features of behavior in lessons: discipline, efficiency, degree of attention.
  • those cases when a cadet exhibits motor disinhibition, increased fatigue, absent-mindedness, lack of composure, etc. are described in more detail.
  • the student’s relationship with a group of peers, pugnacity, aggressiveness or, conversely, excessive passivity
  • notes how other children treat him.
  • Studying the nature of personality traits and self-esteem is not an easy task.

Speaking about a person’s personality in general, we mean some originality of behavior, originality of thinking, richness of the inner world (feelings, emotions, imagination, moral and ethical values). Interests and motives, inclinations and abilities, character and temperament, ideals, value orientations, volitional, emotional and intellectual characteristics, the relationship between the conscious and unconscious (subconscious) and much more - this is a far from complete list of characteristics that we have to deal with if we try draw a psychological portrait of a person.

Having a variety of properties, it is necessary to remember that the personality is a single whole. At the same time, we can distinguish physical, emotional, cognitive, social and moral development of the individual.

During a psychological and pedagogical examination, the following are studied: intellectual development, speech development, cognitive activity, the state of the child’s leading activities (play or educational), the formation of educational skills (for schoolchildren), individual personality characteristics, behavior, the state of the emotional-volitional sphere.

The characteristics describe not only value-orientation development.

It objectively evaluates the positive and negative qualities of a developing personality. In addition, a search is made for both external and internal reasons for the formation of shortcomings. The cadet's relationships in the team, his attitude to work, discipline and a number of other indicators that are an external projection of the cadet's internal characteristics are considered and analyzed.

Adolescence is called “transitional”, “turning point”, “difficult”, “critical”. At this age, the transition from childhood to adulthood occurs. Qualitatively new formations are emerging in all directions. Elements of adulthood appear as a result of a restructuring of the body and self-awareness. Cadets are rethinking their relationships with adults and comrades, their methods of social interaction with them are changing, their interests, cognitive and educational activities, and the content of moral and ethical standards that mediate behavior, activities and relationships may change.

The officer-educator, when drawing up a characterization, must not forget that this period is characterized by the initial stage of personality formation, the novelty of emerging internal conflicts and typical problems of a given age. When drawing up characteristics, the officer-educator must also remember that negative qualities in adolescents (willfulness, stubbornness, negativism, rudeness, insolence) most often arise when the teenager’s independence is underestimated, his opinion is ignored, when unquestioning obedience is demanded from him, when excessive guardianship and etc. All these negative qualities arise as a result of ugly upbringing, which does not take into account the psychological characteristics of this age.

Thus, a personality is a specific person, taken in the system of his stable socially conditioned psychological characteristics, which manifest themselves in social connections and relationships, determine his moral actions and are of significant importance for himself and those around him.

An example of an officer-educator's presentation to a cadet is in Appendix 1.

The most effective and efficient way to identify the individual and psychological characteristics of a school student is to draw up a profile for a student or a group of students. An objective and well-written testimonial has a positive impact on the relationship between the student and the new teacher.

    Sample characteristics for a student

There are basic requirements used when drawing up characteristics for a schoolchild:

    1. Display the individual psychological qualities of the student, manifested by him in the process of behavior and learning.

    2. Distribute groups of students into levels of predominance of various types of characteristics.

    3. The design of this characteristic must be carried out in a standard manner.

    4. Maintaining an accessible perception of information by a new teacher who is not familiar with the students of the school.

    5. The document preparation process should be less labor-intensive.

Based on the above requirements, a psychological and pedagogical student card is created, which provides a complete description of the school student.

The individual psychological traits of the student are displayed in this map in the form of certain scales, at the edges of which the maximum or minimum level of these traits is presented, which allows the teacher to determine the relationship between the student and the teacher and identify the conflict zone of communication. It is recommended to fill out this card at the end of a specific stage of training:

Grade 3 - a map containing general information about the student, compiled by a primary school teacher for a secondary school teacher.

7th grade - a map compiled during the period when a student chooses a specific major (vocational school, technical school).

9th grade - the map is necessary to identify the characteristic professional skills and abilities of the student, taking into account admission to a university.

For students who have completed eleven years of school, maps must be drawn up in grades 4, 8 and 10.

    Characteristics of a school student

Drawing up a profile for a student or a group of students is one of the most popular, effective and accessible ways to determine and identify the individual psychological characteristics of students. Only a well-written testimonial helps a new teacher quickly establish contact with a student (class), get an idea of his personal qualities, build a plan for further teaching work and create optimal conditions for the student’s development, while a biased testimonial can negatively affect the relationship between the teacher and a student.

    student characteristics

In various periods, the requirements for drawing up characteristics of children were determined by certain aspects of the socio-historical process and almost directly depended on the level of development of psychological science about the individual characteristics of the child’s personality. In practice, you can find many characteristics compiled by teachers, both in free form and according to the recommendations of pedagogical science. These forms differ significantly from each other in terms of distinguished indicators and have both advantages and disadvantages.

Having compared and analyzed the currently existing forms of characteristics and the criteria for assessing students used in them, we can identify the main requirements that the characteristics compiled for the student must meet:

    1. should reflect his individual psychological characteristics, manifested by him in the learning process and behavior
    2. divide students according to the level of predominance of certain characteristics
    3. show the attitude of the teacher to the student
    4. should be compiled according to a standard scheme
    5. should be easily “readable” and understandable for teachers who are not familiar with the students being characterized
    6. The characterization process should not be labor-intensive.

    psychological and pedagogical

    student characteristics

Based on the requirements listed above, a “Psychological and pedagogical student map” was developed, using the method of expert assessments in graphical form (expert - class teacher). This map allows you to draw up the most correct and objective characteristics of the student.

The individual and psychological characteristics of students are displayed on the map in the form of scales, along the edges of which the minimum and maximum degrees of expression of these characteristics are located. One end of the scale corresponds to the extreme degree of expression of any personality trait or behavior, and the other shows the absence of manifestation of this trait in behavior or the severity of a trait of opposite quality. When filling out the map, it is necessary to mark on each scale (for example, with a tick) the degree of expression of a particular feature. The measure of distance from the edges of the scale characterizes the student according to the assessed psychological trait.

Analysis of ratings given by the teacher on attitude scales allows not only to take into account the teacher’s attitude towards the student, but also to identify the most conflicting areas of communication.

This card is recommended for filling out and drawing up for each student at the end of certain periods of study, to identify the primary tasks in the process of teaching and educating the student, as well as to help a new teacher (in case of a change in class teacher) in working with the class:

3rd grade - a map with generalized information about the student is compiled for a secondary school teacher (not yet familiar with the student) by an elementary school teacher

7th grade - the map is drawn up during the student’s transition to differentiated learning (choice of a major, technical school, vocational school)

9th grade - a map is drawn up to identify the student’s professional inclinations, for his further preparation for entering a university.

If a student is studying in an eleven-year program, then it is recommended to draw up a “Psychological and Pedagogical Student Card” in grades 4, 8 and 10.

For a clear example, we present several ready-made characteristics for students of different classes (with explanations), which were obtained using a psychological and pedagogical map.
