You will need: a sheet of A3 or A4 paper, fresh gouache (creamy, not dry), brushes, including a hard or old toothbrush, palette/white plate/white thick cardboard, a glass of clean water, oilcloth or waste paper/roll of old wallpaper to protect the table from paint splashes.

Drawing steps:

1. Draw a waterfall in the center of the sheet. To do this, apply rows of vertical strokes, alternating blue and white colors. Please note that the strokes are slightly rounded. If you wish, you can add other shades.

2. Gently blend the borders of the color rows by moving the brush up and down. Your goal: to even out the clear blue-white stripes, but not to rub them into a uniform color. If you make a mistake, add again the desired color from the jar.

3. Draw the seething water at the bottom of the waterfall using versatile, broad strokes. Feel free to layer one color on top of another. At the same time, paint over the sheet, leaving no gaps, and mix the colors while the paints are wet.

4. Let's draw the ground on the sides of the waterfall. You can also draw stones.

For this you will need brown, green, yellow and ocher (a mixture of brown and yellow color or ready-made color).

Apply strokes boldly, mix paints at the borders of colors, but not to the point of dirt.

5. Draw the sky above the waterfall. Paint it with a mixture of white and blue, ultramarine (blue). Draw clouds.

6. Wait for the sky to dry and draw the forest in the distance.

Mix green and white paint on the palette, adding a little blue. This shade should be close to the color of the sky. Check the color on your draft for correctness. Using vertical strokes, draw a continuous strip of distant forest.

Immediately after the wet paint, add darker strokes in the center of the strip. You can add a little black paint. But every time you mix colors, check the shade on a draft or palette.

When the paint is dry, use a thin brush to paint the tree trunks.

7. Now let's draw the splashes from the waterfall. To do this, we use a brush with stiff bristles or an old toothbrush. There should not be a lot of white paint, the consistency should be approximately like sour cream. First, practice controlling the splatter on a rough sheet.

Sprinkle white paint at the top of the waterfall, a little around the edges and at the bottom.

8. Let's draw the trees in the foreground. We depict the trunk with strokes of brown and black. We paint light areas with a mixture of ocher and yellow with the addition of white. We don’t rub off the paint, we don’t leave any clean gaps.

We draw the crown of the trees with short strokes, in separate sections. To do this, use light green, green, yellow shades of gouache. Create a darker and richer green by adding a little black paint.

Do not draw leaves along the contour of each small branch. From a distance the foliage is visible in mass.

You shouldn’t immediately switch to watercolors and gouache; it’s better to first master the technique of creating a painting, individual parts using a pencil.

Making a drawing diagram

First, a sketch of the waterfall, relief and related landscape items is made. Label the rock at the top of the sheet. It is from its top that the waterfall will flow down. Label it schematically. Let it be a rectangle for now, stretched down.

Draw a small lake at the foot of the mountain, which was formed by the falling water element. Let it be round or slightly oval. To the right and left of it, mark 2-4 boulders. They will lie at the foot of the mountain.

Adding volume to the painting

The drawing should take on more voluminous forms. In place of the rectangle that schematically represents the waterfall, draw several vertical lines. Subsequently, these will be streams of water.

Make more realistic first the right and then the left side of the rock. Add volume to them. If it consists only of stones, then round boulders are drawn. Perhaps your rock is full of vegetation. Then you can still schematically draw grass, small bushes, and trees on it.

Next, you need to shade some parts of the drawing using a pencil. Strokes will help make the picture three-dimensional. If you apply them to the edges of boulders, you will notice how realistic these large stones become - they take on a convex shape and light and shade appear.

Determine which side of the picture the sun will be on so that you can use a pencil to indicate the shadows and light in the drawing.

Vertical strokes will turn a sketchy waterfall into a dynamic, flowing one. In the place where it flows into the lake, draw several wavy lines. Then you will notice how the waterfall hits the surface of the water.

Small details – stones, grass – are best shaded with short lines. And the big ones - a waterfall, a lake - are long.

Drawing the accompanying landscape

If in the upper part of the drawing you have schematically depicted bushes and trees, now it’s time to give them more realism. Let the spruce trees tower in the upper background.

They are quite easy to depict. First the trunk is drawn. Further, branches extend from the top to the right and left at an angle of approximately 50 degrees. A pencil will also help give them fluffiness.

Make very small strokes first on one and then on the other side of the branch. This creates needles throughout the tree. In the very distant background you can see trunks with the outlines of branches without needles.

Draw circles around some boulders that lie not on the shore, but in the lake. It will seem that they are walking on water that is carried from the top of the mountain by a waterfall.

Stage 1. First, the levels of the future landscape are marked on a piece of paper: the height of the hill and the territory below. Next, silhouettes of trees are applied to the hills. For the sketch, we chose the picturesque waterfall of Iceland – Skogafoss. The plot is simple, because there are practically no secondary details - the waterfall is surrounded only by rocks and hills.

To draw a waterfall you will need:

• watercolor paper (200-270 g/m2);
• tablet and adhesive tape (for attaching the sheet);

Drawing stages

Step 1. The plot consists of three plans, and the most distant one will be considered the main one. In the background we will depict a small piece of the plain, in the second (on the right side) we will depict a hill, and in the farthest we will draw rocky cliffs and the flow of water from the waterfall itself. We denote all parts of the drawing with light strokes, without drawing.

Step 2. Let's start from the sky. We wet the area above the cliff with clean water and apply the ultramarine color of a clear sky over the wet paper. We shade a few lilac clouds in the sky.

Step 3. When drawing the waterfall, we use the same tones as for the sky. We highlight the upper part of the flow with clear strokes, conveying the direction of the water, and blur the lower part, creating a light fog created due to large quantity splash. The largest streams of the waterfall are separated from others by a dark shade.

Step 4. While the sky and waterfall are drying, add color to the cliffs and hills. We use warm green shades with the addition of burnt sienna. Immediately place shaded spots on the wet underpainting.

Then we enhance the saturation of the hills with green watercolors.

Step 5. After the drawing has dried, draw a clear outline of the cliffs.
