In 2016, on the basis of the Gomel State Medical College, a Republican competition of professional skills was held among 16 specialized secondary educational institutions medical field, in which the first place was taken by the Minsk State Medical College. – Galina Vitalievna, what specialties and qualifications are awarded to graduates? What are the conditions for enrollment and training?
– In our college, education is provided on a budget and paid basis. Entrance tests are a competition for the average score of an education document. Students can master and obtain the following specialties and qualifications.
“Nursing”, qualification “nurse”, duration of study: 1 year 10 months;
“General Medicine”, qualification “paramedic-obstetrician”; physician assistant for outpatient care”, duration of training: 2 years 10 months;
“Medical diagnostic work”, qualification “paramedic laboratory assistant”, training period: 1 year 10 months.”
You can also master the specialty “Nursing” during evening education, for a fee. The duration of training is 2 years 9 months.

– Tell us what the features of the specialty “General Medicine” are.
– Today, specialists who have mastered the specialty “General Medicine” are in great demand. After all, primary health care is now a priority in our country, along with state programs. It must be accessible and of high quality for every person who comes to a medical institution. Such specialists are obstetricians, paramedics, and physician assistants for outpatient care.
A paramedic-obstetrician, a medical assistant for outpatient care, is a specialist with a specialized secondary education in a medical field, working independently (within his competence) or under the guidance of a doctor.
Sphere professional activity specialists are health care organizations: paramedic and obstetric centers, health centers, ambulance stations, hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, centers, consultations, medical units, clinics, outpatient clinics, sanatoriums, as well as social assistance institutions for the population.
A paramedic-obstetrician assesses the patient's condition, diagnoses typical cases of diseases and makes a preliminary diagnosis. Such a specialist conducts outpatient visits and serves patients at home, writes prescriptions, and issues the necessary certificates. Of course, its priority is to provide emergency pre-medical medical care. He also monitors and cares for patients, carries out medical and diagnostic appointments of the doctor.
A physician assistant for outpatient care is the first link between a person and a medical institution that provides specialized care. After all, the doctor must specifically perform his functional duties, and the assistant must help the doctor carry out his actions. It is this specialist who ensures the availability and quality of assistance.
Thus, this specialist is the doctor’s main assistant, his assistant. It is he who provides pre-hospital emergency care, medical care to the population both in healthcare organizations and at home, and carries out preventive, therapeutic, diagnostic and rehabilitation measures. Determines indications for referral to a specialist doctor, issues certificates, and maintains accounting and reporting documentation.

– What are the specifics of the work of future graduates who have mastered the specialty “Nursing”?
– Such specialists are also in great demand in primary health care, specialized, high-tech care, medical and social care, and of course palliative care. Thus, their work characteristics depend on the type of assistance provided. The knowledge that we give to such a specialist is determined by educational standards, the requirements that practical healthcare places on this specialist, as well as the area of ​​activity.
A nurse is a specialist with secondary specialized medical education, working under the guidance of a doctor in a treatment and preventive or children's institution. This is one of the most important professions, a profession from God. The unique task of a nurse is to provide assistance to a person, sick or healthy. It requires attention, observation, implementation proper care for patients.
When such a specialist gets a job in a medical institution, he is sent to one or another department, where he becomes familiar with his specific functional responsibilities. And he fulfills them due to one kind of activity or another. Thus, a nurse can work in any medical institution: surgical, operating room, anesthesiology, intensive care, sanatorium, as well as in fitness clubs, massage rooms, offices physical therapy, beauty parlors, preschool institutions.

– Tell us about the features of the “Medical Diagnostics” specialty.
– Again, today this specialty is in great demand. Such specialists work in healthcare organizations, research institutes, scientific and practical centers, medical education institutions, hygiene, epidemiology and public health centers, sanatorium institutions, as well as in organizations that provide paid medical services to the population.
An experienced medical laboratory assistant is a general specialist. He masters literally all the analytical research methods that the laboratory carries out. The correctness of a doctor’s diagnosis of a patient largely depends on the competence of laboratory specialists – medical assistants.
The laboratory technician needs to have a good understanding of modern laboratory technology and the principles of analysis, that is, what each analysis is used for and what deviations from the norm mean; clinical biochemistry tests are very important for early diagnosis serious illnesses. In the course of their work, a medical laboratory assistant must be able to handle a microscope. For example, during a clinical blood test, the number of red blood cells and white blood cells should be counted. To do this, blood cells must be seen, and they can only be seen under a microscope.
The work of a medical laboratory assistant may not be as visible to the patient as the work of a doctor, but, nevertheless, it is very important. It is known that without these tests the surgeon will not undertake even the most simple operation in the hospital. He must know what the state of the body is, whether there are any disorders that, being outwardly invisible, can lead to an unfavorable outcome.

– How and where do college students learn practical skills?
– Our practical classes have been transferred to clinical sites. This indicates a practice-oriented approach to learning throughout the entire period of study. Practical classes, of course, are also conducted in educational buildings, where students master general concepts, without which it is impossible to master practical skills. At the college, students have the opportunity to work with the most modern equipment that is present in our classrooms.
Our most modern clinical base is an emergency hospital, a children's infectious diseases hospital, a laboratory diagnostics department, as well as city clinics. Students learn a profession in real conditions, next to employees of these institutions, which allows them to gain the knowledge that will definitely be useful to them in their future work activities.

– Tell us about the educational prospects that await college graduates.
– Graduates of our college can continue their studies at four medical higher educational institutions in our country, but, unfortunately, they are not given any advantages for admission. This means that our guys enter universities at general conditions. It is also impossible to enroll in a medical school for a shortened period of study.
However, it is worth noting that the level of knowledge of such students will be much higher than that with which former schoolchildren come to medical school, which will certainly help them in their studies.

– How students are introduced to the main mission medical worker?
– The main mission in training a future medical worker is to educate spiritual and moral aspects, highly humane values, a sense of mercy, compassion and the desire to help others. After all, it is important not only to treat the body, but also the soul.
Today our college is actively interested in various social projects. Our students voluntarily provide palliative and medical and social care, collaborate with hospices, and work in an oncology clinic and boarding homes.
I would like to point out that it was our college that opened the student donor marathon of free donation among educational institutions of our country. We believe that such an approach today is not only important, but also necessary.

– Galina Vitalievna, please tell us what kind of children would be interested in studying at a medical college?
– In our college, during admission, an anonymous survey is always carried out, the purpose of which is to find out the reasons why the student chose future profession. According to the answers, the majority explains their choice precisely by love and the desire to help people, the willingness to work for the benefit of people. Of course, this is very pleasing, because it speaks about the moral and moral education, about the warmth and responsiveness of the soul.
I have always said and continue to say that people go into medicine by vocation, and to choose this not an easy path, requires a sincere desire to serve a person.
