Drawing a watermelon step by step with watercolors for beginners. How to draw a watermelon so that it looks like a real one Watermelon slice pencil drawing

We continue the theme of delicious guests from overseas countries, and today we have a special guest - a native of South Africa, whose wild relatives are still encountered there along the way. Large and juicy, with many seeds, which makes it difficult to eat its flesh with a mouthful. The green mascot of every summer. Let's learn how to draw a watermelon! I will immediately dispel the thoughts and dreams of many - watermelon is not a fruit, or even a vegetable, it is a huge berry. Like its counterpart, orange, is most common in China. Like any other fruit, sabzh has the function of turning into honey. In the south it is called nardek.

Interesting facts about watermelons:

  • A person consists of 65 percent water, but a watermelon is 92%. It turns out that a person is 68% watermelon.
  • In Vietnam, on the day of the Tet Nguyen Dan holiday ( New Year) watermelons are always served on the table.
  • The largest watermelon in the world weighed about 116 kilograms, but it was bred artificially and could not be eaten. In Europe, the largest one belongs to Russia - a green one weighing 62 kg was grown here.

How to draw a watermelon with a pencil step by step

Step one. Draw a large circle and divide it approximately in half with a line. The two smaller circles at the bottom are the shapes for the leaves.
Step two. Let's change it a little into leaves.
Step three. Erase the right side of the oval. This is how we made a cut in the watermelon. Don't forget about the leaves - we correct them.
Step four. We apply war paint to the berry, inside the cut we sketch the pulp and black seeds.
Step five.

Materials:

  • Pencil;
  • Watercolor paper – good quality, thick paper. I like to use at least a 140-pounder;
  • Watercolor paints: Quinacridone Red, Phthalo Green, Cadmium Yellow, Ivory Black;
  • A brush with a fine tip.

Before you start drawing, remember these tips:

  • It's important to work with wet paints for most of our tutorial, so work quickly and try not to let your paints dry between steps except for the very last part.
  • Our goal is for this watermelon to look fresh. To do this, you need to apply paint to a given area at the same time. We will not paint in layers. Painting over areas that you've already painted can make the painting look cloudy and heavy, as if you've worked too hard on it. Do everything easily and freely.

Let's start drawing a watermelon! Repeat each step to create your own painting.

Step 1: Draw the outline

Start by drawing a light, triangular outline of the watermelon slice with a pencil. Make it light so that later the pencil lines are not visible through the paint.

You can freehand the triangle or use a corner of paper to keep the edges straight. Be sure to make the bottom curved so that the design looks like a piece of watermelon.

Step 2: Paint over the pink part of the watermelon

Mix Quinacridone Red with a little water in a palette and apply to the top of a watermelon slice. You can leave gaps here and there and vary the thickness and thickness of the paint. We're aiming for it to look a little mottled, a little translucent, darker in some parts than others. Also, spaces give life to a watercolor painting.

Liquid paint makes the drawing softer and fresher, do not forget about this as you work. Thick paints make the edges hard, which is something we want to avoid.

Leave a wide, empty space at the bottom for the watermelon rind.

Step 3: Paint the watermelon rind using different shades of green

Take some Phthalo Green with your brush and paint the bottom of the crust. This part can be depicted evenly along the entire lower border.

Now, mix Phthalo Green with a little Cadmium Yellow to make a light green. Apply this color directly over the dark green before it dries, allowing the two shades of green to blend a little where they touch. Leave a small gap between the yellow-green and pink parts of the watermelon.

Now, take the yellow-green with your brush, and apply the brush to several places in the remaining clean area so that the green mixes with the pink. Also leave some white space in this area.

Step 4: Draw the watermelon seeds

While the pink paint is still wet, leave a few marks with black paint, giving the impression of seeds being inside. Let dry.

Take more black paint with your brush and add a little more flecks. Now that the pink paint has dried, these bones look more defined, giving the impression that they are on the surface. This adds depth and interest to your watermelon image.

Happened! A simple but expressive watercolor painting.

A striped fruit of impressive size with juicy and tasty pulp in the middle will delight all summer lovers. Its only disadvantages include a large number of grains However, there is a variety that does not have this disadvantage.

Drawing a watermelon is a pleasure! After all, it has such bright colors as green, red and yellow. In combination, they give a bright picture that you don’t want to look away from.

You should start drawing a watermelon with a sketch in which a watermelon with a slice will be depicted as simple geometric shapes. Next, they should be detailed and supplemented with details.

Necessary materials:

  • black marker;
  • simple pencil:
  • eraser;
  • paper;
  • colored pencils in green, yellow and red tones.

Drawing steps:

1. Watermelon is shaped like a circle. Therefore, initially it was this figure.

2. Then, to complete the picture, add a cut slice of watermelon. Let's depict it in the form of a semicircle. The size can be the same as the watermelon itself.

3. Draw stripes on the whole watermelon. Draw a small circle just below the top of the watermelon. Wavy lines will come from it, which will create the effect of a striped watermelon. So that you don’t end up with an extra line, count them. Ideally there should be an even number.

4. Now let's take care of the slice located right next to the whole watermelon. Let's draw a striped peel. Next is another wavy line. grains, which are a lot in watermelon.

5. Outline all the lines with a black marker.

6. Draw the flesh of the watermelon on the slice with a red pencil. The bright tone of the red pencil will only enhance the appetizing appearance of the watermelon.

7. Then take a yellow pencil and use it to decorate the grains and outer part peel on the slice, which is visible only when cut.

8. Use a light green pencil to color some stripes on the whole watermelon and the slice.

9. Color all the remaining stripes with a dark green pencil.

Here you go step by step drawing watermelon This striped fruit with red flesh can be used as a picture for the outside of a greeting card.

How to draw a watermelon?

Here are the options - from nature or from imagination? By imagination. It is useful for the development of hands and the eye, but as a picture, of course it turned out very conditionally. That's why today we draw from life.

Whole or cut?... Both! Of course, draw a whole one, and then cut it, see what’s inside it and draw it too.

Draw with a pencil or paints? Well, the outline is definitely a simple pencil, but then I’ll continue watercolor paints– the thought of a gray-white drawing of a watermelon, in my opinion, is completely colorless and you can’t feel the taste.

I actually drew the watermelon twice. There will be a lesson on drawing a whole watermelon on the website nonsenspictures.ru, here is a drawing of a watermelon from that lesson:

And here we will be glad that this watermelon turned out to be very tasty with beautiful juicy pulp.

The composition is not simple - a cut watermelon on a plate and next to it - what to call it? - cut out slice. A whole still life. Moreover, there is also an obstruction here. Real still life! The pencil sketch looks like this:

In general, I teach drawing to children, and I know what mistakes they mostly step on. So, children avoid drawing the obstruction. The idea that a line, partially obscured by some object located in the foreground, continues further logically and naturally is a very difficult idea for children. So, it’s not difficult to draw a watermelon and its slice. But now we must very consciously not break the boundary line between the horizontal and vertical planes.

So, we sorted out the construction and drew the horizon line CORRECTLY:

Well, if this were a lesson for adults, we would now be constructing the ellipse of the plate in great detail and correlating it with the plane of the table, but for children and our constructions it’s enough to go above and beyond.

Well, it's time to get to paint. We need herbal greens.

Let's add brown and beige. Oh! I remembered - another ambush awaits us - SHADOWS and GLARE! The shadows are dark, the highlights are light, almost white. They exist, but we still need to realize this.

Children, accustomed to drawing not from nature, but from a vague imagination, usually paint everything as if with a roller - flatly in one color without shades. And knowing that the rind of a watermelon is “green,” they paint it acid-fluorescent green. Mixing colors is also a bit of a hassle. They seem to teach this in kindergartens... using gouache as an example. But by school, all this is forgotten, and at the sight of a set of watercolors, any student will not even think of tormenting himself with choosing a color.

But you will have to.

Yes, we mix colors, don’t be shy.

Wow, we’ve reached the pulp. Do you think it’s red or, like, pink? I thought so too, but it turned out that we couldn’t do without ocher.

And the shadows are generally purple-brown.

Soooo, shadows... shadows? Exactly! Draw a shadow from the watermelon and from the slice. And don’t forget the fragment of the plate - we draw it too.

Watermelon is a great idea for a drawing, because summer is coming, which means that the season for summer still lifes can be considered open. Many people mistakenly believe that only children, as well as beginning artists, draw this wonderful berry for practice. There are many famous masters such as Giovanni Stanchi or Diego Rivera, using watermelon in his painting.

It is not so easy to depict this bright, juicy fruit on a canvas, so we suggest drawing a watermelon according to diagrams, which will greatly simplify the process for a novice artist. So today we are drawing a watermelon.

To understand how to draw a watermelon, you first need to understand what types of this berry exist in nature. This needs to be done to determine the color palette that we will use when creating the drawing. The following varieties of this fruit are distinguished:

  • Gift of the Sun (yellow peel with orange stripes, red flesh);
  • Carolina Cross (a huge elongated fruit with green skin and red flesh);
  • White watermelon (white rind, red flesh);
  • Marbled (light green skin with dark green veins and red flesh);
  • Astrakhan (green skin with dark green stripes, with red flesh);
  • "Moon and Stars" (dark green skin with yellow spots, with red or yellow flesh);
  • Densuke (black skin with bright red flesh);
  • Yellow (green skin, yellow flesh).

Having figured out what these summer berries are, you can proceed to the next stage - choosing a drawing tool.

Before you start drawing a watermelon, you need to choose a drawing tool. You can draw this bright and summer berry using:

  • Simple or watercolor pencils;
  • Oil, watercolor or acrylic paint;
  • Photoshop or other drawing program on a PC;
  • Mela;
  • Nail polish;
  • Pastels.

To begin with, you can try using a simple pencil to learn how to create correct form, details. And then switch to watercolor or acrylic paints.

On a note! If a novice artist wants to convey all the brightness and juiciness of the fruit, it is advisable to choose gouache or oil paint. But having chosen paints, you need to be patient: mastering the technique of painting with paints the first time is very difficult, for this you need a lot of practice.

Let's get started

Having dealt with all the stages of preparation, you can start working. It will be much easier to draw a watermelon either with a simple pencil or watercolor. Let's consider each option in more detail.

Pencil step by step

After the novice artist has decided on a palette of pencils, you can begin drawing a watermelon in stages. In this case, you need to adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. Draw a circle, mark the tail.
  2. Draw stripes on the peel.
  3. Choose a light yellow or light green shade and lightly paint over the surface of the fruit.
  4. Using a dark green tint, draw the stripes on the surface of the berries.
  5. We select rich colors from the palette and draw the existing sketches with a pencil.
  6. Paint the upper part with a warm shade, and the lower part with a cold shade. Don't forget to leave room for glare.
  7. On the light part of the surface of the berry we draw small veins.
  8. The last stage is working out the ponytail. We take gray and Brown color and paint the process. Don't forget to add a shadow.

Watercolor step by step

Before you start painting with watercolors, you need to prepare a simple pencil, thick high-quality paper, a thin brush and watercolor paints.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Create a sketch using a simple pencil. If you wish, you can draw the fruit on a plate and a slice next to it.
  2. Paint the main part of the fruit with green paint. Mark a place for highlights and shadows. For shadows we use purple or brown paint.
  3. We paint the flesh of the slices bright red or pink.
  4. We mark the peel of the fruit with black stripes and highlight the highlight.

On a note! When creating a drawing, you should not allow the paints to dry out. You need to work at a fast pace to keep the paints wet. This will make the fruit more realistic.

Realistic watermelon

In order to make a drawing realistic, you need to understand all the subtleties of creating light and shadow. It is these two components that will make the object deep and tangible. It will be difficult for a beginner to cope with this the first time - it takes years of practice to create a drawing as close as possible to a photograph. For a novice artist, it is enough to indicate a highlight, a shadow, then the fruit will look more voluminous.

By cells

The desire to draw a watermelon in a notebook according to the cells arises among cross-stitch lovers. This is incredibly easy to do: just take some lined paper and fill in the cells with the corresponding colors. To do this, use felt-tip pens, colored pens or pencils.

Anime style

In order to create a drawing of a watermelon slice in anime style, you need to follow the following instructions:

  1. Draw a slice with a felt-tip pen and mark the location of the crust.
  2. Draw eyes and a smile. Draw two small circles near the pupil. Color in the eyes with a felt-tip pen. We do not touch the pupil and cups.
  3. Along the line of the peel we draw seeds in the form of drops.
  4. We paint the peel with a green felt-tip pen, and the flesh with red or pink.
  5. Mark the boundaries of the lobule with a dark felt-tip pen.
  6. Draw multi-colored drops around a piece of berry.

Drawing with your child

Creating drawings for children is a fun and useful pastime. You need to instill a love of painting from childhood, because it develops memory, speech, thinking and coordination. In addition, many good professions are associated with creativity, so regular activities with your child will not be superfluous. At first, you can use coloring books, and then move on to creating drawings using pencils or felt-tip pens.

Whole watermelon

To create a whole fruit, we take simple and colored pencils or felt-tip pens. You need to complete the drawing step by step:

  • We create the base of the berry - draw a circle. You can also draw a slice on the side;

  • We designate the crown;
  • We detail the fruit - draw stripes along the peel;

  • We draw seeds on the slice and indicate the location of the peel;

  • Clearly mark the boundaries of the watermelon, and erase the first sketches with an eraser;
  • You can start decorating.

Cute piece with eyes

Before you teach your child to draw watermelon slices with eyes, you need to stock up on colored pencils or felt-tip pens. This is very easy to do by following these steps:

  • We create the basis for the slice - a cone;
  • We give the drawn figure volume - draw a line parallel to the base;
  • Draw eyes, mouth, watermelon seeds;
  • Let's decorate.

For greater realism, you can add shadows and highlights. You can also add cheeks, eyelashes, and blush for our slice.

Drawing is very useful exciting activity. Creating a bright, juicy watermelon on canvas will fill each of us with memories of summer, picnics, walks on the fresh air. Both professional artists and beginners can take on this task, because there are so many ways to draw this wonderful berry.
