Biography

Childhood and youth

Born on October 31, 1953 on the island of Iturup, Kuril archipelago, in the village of Burevestnik. Father is a military pilot, mother is a housewife. For the first 2 years of his life, Novikov and his family lived on Sakhalin, then lived for some time in the Latvian village of Vainode, then ten years in the city of Frunze, and in 1969 Novikov moved to the city of Sverdlovsk, where he continues to live and work to the present day.

Sasha Novikov grew up as a very smart boy. Already at the age of 6, he was impressed by the lyrics of Sergei Yesenin, and by the third grade he had read almost all of the Russian classics, including the novel War and Peace. However, he studied poorly at school, did not observe discipline, and already in the 4th-5th grade Novikov was expelled from the ranks of the pioneers. In everyday life, the future musician was an open anti-Soviet.

Novikov also showed his temperamental character in boxing and sambo.

Passion for music to young Alexander Novikov came to the idea in 1967 under the impression of watching the film “Vertical” with the participation of Vladimir Vysotsky, who performed 5 of his songs in the film. As a student at UPI, he performed as part of the institute's VIA "Polymer". He was expelled from the institute for performing the song “The Beatles” at one of the institute’s events.

In 1971, he received his first sentence for a fight in a restaurant. Novikov and his friend stood up for the waitress against an opponent who refused to pay and used it against her physical strength. The opponent himself later ended up in the hospital, and the waitress got his watch, which Novikov and his friend, taking it out of the pocket of the unconscious opponent, gave it to her. Novikov was given a suspended sentence for a year with mandatory involvement in labor (popularly “chemistry”), during which he built a Public Service House in Nizhny Tagil.

In 1980 he created the group “Rock Polygon”, where he performed as a soloist, guitarist and songwriter. The songs were performed in the styles of rock and roll, reggae and new wave with elements of punk rock, hard rock and psychedelic rock. The texts were distinguished by their philharmonic spirit. The group recorded two self-titled albums in (in the official publication for the year it is erroneously indicated as) and 1984 .

In 1981, he founded the Novik-Records recording studio, where not only Novikov’s albums were recorded, but also many Sverdlovsk musicians - in the future the groups “Chaif”, “Agatha Christie” and others.

In 1984, Novikov sharply departed from rock music and on May 3 recorded the famous album “Take me, cab driver.” Musicians from the Rock Polygon took part in the recording, including Alexey Khomenko and Vladimir Elizarov.

Arrest

On October 5, 1984, Novikov was arrested, and in 1985, by a verdict of the Sverdlovsk court, he was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 10 years - under Art. 93-1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR. Officially - in connection with the production and sale of counterfeit electronic musical equipment. However, in his interviews, A. Novikov repeatedly noted that he was imprisoned precisely for the album “Take Me, Cabby,” referring to the case that began with the document “Expertise on the songs of Alexander Novikov,” which contained reviews of each song from the album “Take Me.” me, cab driver." Based on the results of this examination, it was decided that:

The examination was carried out by composer Evgeny Rodygin, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, a member of the editorial committee of the Ural magazine Vadim Ocheretin, and a representative of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR V. Olyunin.

In the camp, Alexander Vasilyevich wrote most of his best poems, including “Layout Lyrics”, “I extracted pain and salt for my wounds...”, “Guitar and Organ-Gurdy”, “You and I will not see each other soon...”, “Gypsy”, “ Four teeth”, “Wife”, “The night was rammed by a star...” and others. Also, while still in the pre-trial detention center cell, Novikov created the play-fable “Komarilla”, in which, in a comic form, the whole picture of the trial is presented, and under the masks of animals are shown real people, involved in the “case” of the poet.

Subsequently, in 2012, the autobiographical book “Notes of a Criminal Bard” was published, covering the period of Alexander Novikov’s life spent in the camp.

Liberation and subsequent events

In August 1991 he spoke out against the State Emergency Committee.

In 1994, together with director Kirill Kotelnikov, he made a documentary film about the group “Boney M.” and its creator Frank Farian “Oh, this Farian!” (“Oh, this Farian!”). Filming took place in Luxembourg and Germany, the film included unique interviews with Farian and materials from his personal archive. However, the film was never shown on Russian television.

On January 24, 1998, he took part in a gala concert in honor of the 60th anniversary of Vladimir Vysotsky, held at the Olimpiysky sports complex. Among three dozen artists, Novikov is one of the few who had the honor of performing two songs of the legendary singer-songwriter at once: “Song about an informer” and “Bolshoi Karetny”. Famous writer Fedor Razzakov in the book “Vladimir Vysotsky. I will, of course, return...” noted:

The idea [of the concert] was doomed to failure from the start. It’s one thing to sing “Old Songs about the Main Thing,” and quite another to sing Vysotsky’s songs. Therefore, only two or three performers (Alexander Novikov, Lesopoval, Lyube) managed, if not to come close to the author’s version, then at least not to spoil it. All the other concert participants couldn't handle it.

On June 16, 2003, Alexander Novikov was awarded the highest church award - the Order of the Holy, Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow for his services in the construction of the Church on the Blood in Yekaterinburg. Since 2004, President of the Foundation “400th Anniversary of the House of Romanov” in the Urals.

On June 24, 2010, he was appointed artistic director of the Yekaterinburg Variety Theatre. Having become the artistic director of the theater, Novikov first of all banned the play “Blue Puppy”, in which he saw signs of promoting pedophilia.

These vuvuzelas of homosexuality, looking at the world through an eyesore, which for some reason are always in a bulging state... So, through these eyesores, any healthy event and normal act seems to them to be an attack on their mythical homosexual rights, growing straight out of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Alexander Novikov

After this case the expression "vuvuzelas of homosexuality" has gained great popularity on the Internet.

On October 28, 2010, a new album by Alexander Novikov was released on poems by poets of the Silver Age, in the recording of which Maxim Pokrovsky took part, performing together with Novikov a song based on the poems of Sasha Cherny “Tararam”. Alexander Vasilyevich described the result of his work on the creation of this album:

The album “Pineapples in Champagne” is a gallery of bizarre and unique gems of “Silver Age” poetry. I made a musical frame for each of them. Five years of fine jewelry work

Participant of the annual National Chanson of the Year Award in the Kremlin.

In 2014-2015, he was a member of the jury of the TV show “Three Chords” and repeatedly performed on its stage.

In December 2016, Novikov was charged under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale). On December 23, the court sent him to house arrest for two months. According to investigators, Novikov and former Deputy Minister of Economy of the Sverdlovsk Region Mikhail Shilimanov collected about 150 million rubles from shareholders in the construction of the Queens Bay cottage community in Yekaterinburg, and then transferred this money to their accounts. Construction of the village was stopped; law enforcement officers estimated the amount of damage at 35 million 627 thousand rubles. In January 2017, while under recognizance not to leave, he left Russia for the UAE on vacation. Returned to Epiphany. Upon his return he gave a press conference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF_vZPA_J-U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMwpTb0jNyk

Alexander Novikov - biography

For his first album, “Take Me, Cabbie,” released in 1984, singer Alexander Novikov received 10 years in camps. He received awards and ovations much later.

He was tied up right on the street in broad daylight, like a seasoned repeat offender. Alexander knew: they were putting pressure on the psyche. He did not sign the waiver of his songs, which was offered to him in the pre-trial detention center; the threats did not break him. Later, the arrested person was shown a document entitled “Examination of A. Novikov’s songs.” Famous cultural figures condemned his work as anti-Soviet and alien to communist ideology. The summary read: “The author requires psychiatric and prison isolation”...

Alexander Novikov - childhood and youth

Sasha Novikov was born on October 31, 1953 on the godforsaken island of Iturup, on the border with Japan. It was there that the biography of the future singer began. His father, a military pilot, was sent to serve there. Then the family wandered around the garrisons on Sakhalin, Kyrgyzstan, and Altai. In the end, they settled in Sverdlovsk. Alexander loved this city with all his soul, he still lives there and does not want to move to the capital.

Despite the fact that Sasha studied well, his behavior was always “unsuccessful.” The favorite pastime of the Sverdlovsk boys was fights: they sorted things out with their fists with each other, and went to “sort things out” with neighboring areas. Sasha was always in the forefront; people feared him for his unpredictable temper and desperate courage. More than once his favorite guitar suffered in fights. Novikov’s signature move was the “Spanish collar” - the guitar was simply placed on the opponent’s head. After the breakdown of another instrument, the whole yard chipped in for a new one: everyone loved songs with a guitar.

Sasha’s youth was overshadowed by tragedy: his younger sister, an athlete and everyone’s favorite, died at the age of 17 in a plane crash along with the entire youth basketball team. The mother never recovered from the blow, and Sasha could not come to his senses for a long time. A rebellion against the cruelty and injustice of this world was brewing in his soul. How can you talk about goodness and happiness if innocent children are dying?..

Alexander Novikov - biography of personal life: the ideal wife

Love does not bypass even convinced rebels. Alexander fell in love with his future wife Maria at first sight. “And it can’t be any other way,” he asserts. Novikov then studied at the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute. He walked up the stairs, looked up, saw her, and realized that he was lost. He had always been a good guy, but then he suddenly became timid and did not dare to approach. And the girl, without paying attention to him, walked past. Later he looked for her, but the beauty disappeared into thin air. Alexander was worried: what if she doesn’t study here at all, she came in by accident? How to find her then?

They met at a geodetic practice - he immediately recognized the beautiful stranger, although she was wearing a headscarf that covered half her face. Here Alexander did not miss his chance.

The couple has been together for almost 40 years, but Alexander Vasilyevich Novikov still considers his wife an ideal. “We don’t have such women these days,” he says. “Icons should be painted from it.” He himself is far from ideal; there are many rumors about his victories on the love front. But he's like a real man never comments on them: personal life does not concern the public.

Alexander Novikov - beginning of his career

Novikov never managed to complete his higher education. He was expelled from three universities for his bold statements and rebellious character. The last time was after a fight with the Komsomol organizer and the group leader, who were denouncing everyone. Alexander decided: enough of this study, it’s time to work and got a job in a garage as a car mechanic. Later he was a laborer at a construction site, a driver, and even sold honey. In the evenings, he worked part-time in a restaurant, sang fashionable hits, but his soul asked for completely different music.

If you want to, that means you have to do it. Alexander gathered like-minded people and founded a rock band with the brutal name “Rock Polygon”. We recorded an album and began performing at private parties.

Rock was banned in the country, so the police hunted the group, their electricity was cut off during concerts, but the guys did not give up...

It was impossible to get decent equipment, Alexander began assembling amplifiers, speakers, and microphones himself. Musician friends bought them with pleasure, and some of those “veterans” are still in working order.

A couple of years later, “Rock Polygon” already had a lot of fans. And they never expected that Novikov would suddenly change direction and start singing chanson. In 1984, Alexander released the album “Take Me, Cabbie.” It was recorded underground, at night, and was distributed, naturally, illegally, but at an incredible pace. After just two months, Novikov’s songs were sung by the whole country, often without knowing the author and considering them folk songs.

Alexander Novikov - six years in prison

For the authorities, Novikov has long been a bone in their throat; he was taken under special control back in his student days. And after the release of the objectionable album, surveillance began on Alexander. The phone was openly tapped, a “tail” was on his heels, his friends and acquaintances were constantly called to the authorities - these were the methods psychological pressure. The album, which was sold under the counter in the markets, was confiscated, the cassettes were broken and thrown away. Alexander had no doubt that he would be arrested...

To prevent the case of the disgraced singer from becoming politically charged, the charges were changed. Investigators remembered the amplifiers and speakers and accused Novikov of illegally selling equipment. During interrogations they did not hide the real reason arrest, and Alexander received a maximum of ten years in the camps.

He served his sentence the same as everyone else, no concessions or concessions. Rather, on the contrary: he was imprisoned on the personal instructions of Andropov, and the prison authorities tried their best to complicate an already difficult prison existence. Novikov felled timber, sawed huge logs in the cold, floated them down the icy river, and built barracks.

The prisoners did not perceive him as a celebrity, and he had to prove his worth not in words. One day he grabbed a knife from an attacker with his bare hands and, defending his life, stabbed his opponent with it. Fortunately, the wound was not fatal. Zek survived, and Alexander gained authority.

Novikov served six years and was released under an amnesty in new country, where it was now possible to sing from the stage the songs for which he was imprisoned.

Alexander Novikov - in word and deed

“Prison gave me invaluable experience, strength and self-confidence,” Alexander Vasilyevich is sure. He has no fears left, he knows: you can’t escape fate, and he can handle difficult trials, especially when he has a reliable rear behind him. His wife never reproached him for what happened, but she, with two children in her arms, had a very difficult time. All their property, including irons and bed linen, was confiscated. Maria understands: her husband simply cannot go with the flow, he will always fight for what he considers right and fair.

Novikov even today says what he thinks, stands up for the weak, does not mince words, and if the word does not help, he can even use his fist. When asked: “Is it really impossible to reach an agreement?”, he answers: “There are people who do not understand words, and there are situations when force is needed.”

On the stage, he always stays a little away from the main currents of chanson, and even more so from show business. Doing what he loves, the artist created his own unique style, which he calls “male lyrics.” “I write about love, about people, about the eternal...” says the 62-year-old singer. - Maybe I stand a little apart with my songs. But eagles don’t fly in flocks, crows fly in flocks.”

Alexander Novikov was born on October 31, 1953 on the island of Iturup in the Kuril archipelago, in the village of Burevestnik.

Father is a military pilot, mother is a housewife.

At the age of 6, he moved with his parents to Kyrgyzstan, to the city of Frunze (now Bishkek).

In 1969, Novikov moved to the city of Sverdlovsk, where he graduated from school in 1970 and continues to live and work to this day.

As a child, Alexander loved sports. First he practiced boxing, then sambo. “As a child, I fought very often, never let myself be offended, I broke my arms and legs over some of them. According to the philosophy of martial arts, which I also practiced, the spirit of a warrior is most important in a man. So I tried to take a worthy position.”, he said.

In high school high school In addition to sports, Alexander was captivated by two other activities: music and cards. He first became interested in it under the influence of the work of Vladimir Vysotsky - in 1967, Alexander first watched the film “Vertical” with his participation. He was taught to play cards by his "sidekicks" from the yard company. Soon Alexander mastered both music and cards.

Novikov's strong character very often forced him to go against the opinion of the majority, to challenge established norms and principles. For example, he went to study at various universities three times and was expelled from there three times. According to him, for the fact that “I beat Komsomol members. I really didn’t like them.”.

While studying at the third university, he met his future wife, Masha. In 1975 they got married. That same year they had their first child, son Igor. Seven years later - daughter Natasha.

Novikov's passion since the 70s has been cars. In the mid-70s, he got a job as an auto mechanic, where in one of the auto repair shops in Sverdlovsk he restored cars damaged in accidents. Novikov got his first “penny” precisely in those years - a certain reckless driver crashed to death on it, Alexander literally restored his car piece by piece and took it for himself.

In the late 1970s, Novikov got a job as a musician and singer in one of the Sverdlovsk restaurants. I worked there for about four years. During this time, he managed to save a decent amount of money and opened his own studio-workshop, where he not only recorded rock songs (his ensemble was called “Polygon”), but also manufactured studio equipment for state Palaces of Culture and cinemas.

In 1980 he created the group “Rock Polygon”, where he performed as a soloist, guitarist and songwriter. The songs were performed in the styles of rock and roll, reggae and new wave with elements of punk rock and psychedelic rock. The group recorded two albums of the same name - in 1983 (when officially released on CD, the year was mistakenly indicated as 1981) and 1984.

In 1981, he founded the recording studio “Novik Records”, where not only Novikov’s albums were recorded, but also many Sverdlovsk musicians - the groups “Chaif”, “Agatha Christie” and others.

The lion's share of the Polygon group's repertoire consisted of rock compositions.

Alexander Novikov in his youth (1984)

However, at the beginning of 1984, Novikov wanted to sing several of his own songs, written in the genre of urban romance, popularly called “thieves”. Among these songs were three that would soon become hits: “Take Me, Cabbie,” “I Came from the Jewish Quarter,” and “Remember, Girl?”

Musicians from “Rock Polygon” took part in the album, including Alexey Khomenko and Vladimir Elizarov.

A certain elderly gentleman, a great specialist in this matter, took on the promotion of this album. True, after listening to the recording, he honestly admitted to Novikov: “I can broadcast this to the whole country in two months, but you, young man, will be imprisoned.”

This warning did not stop Novikov and On May 3, 1984, the magnetic album “Take Me, Cabby” was released.

The success of the album was stunning: within a week it was being listened to throughout the Union, including the most remote corners of the country. He did not go unnoticed by the authorities.

Novikov spoke about how the arrest took place: “They arrested me right on the street, put me in a car and took me to the local police department. There they put in front of me a document called “Expertise on the songs of Alexander Novikov.” The document contained the lyrics of my songs from “Izvozchik”, and for each there was an impressive review. And then general review of everything. In this final one, it was written that the author of the above-mentioned songs needs, they say, if not psychiatric, then definitely prison isolation. This document was signed by composer Evgeny Rodygin, the author of the song “New settlers are traveling across virgin land,” several party functionaries and cultural officials. In short, I was accused of all sins: humiliation of national minorities, propaganda of immorality, vulgarity, violence, prostitution, alcoholism, drug addiction - it was a huge set..."

In 1985, by the verdict of the Sverdlovsk court, Novikov was convicted under Art. 93-1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, receiving 10 years in prison. This happened in connection with his activities in the manufacture and sale of electrical musical equipment, where he was accused of selling counterfeit goods.

Novikov recalls: “I waited in prison for almost a year for a decision on my cassation appeal. First in Sverdlovsk, then in Kamyshlov, this is 250 km from Sverdlovsk, in such a quiet provincial prison, which is probably already three hundred years old. And they transported me there like a particularly dangerous repeat offender ".

“When we arrived in Kamyshlov, I saw a huge crowd of guards on the platform. Really, I think, for my soul? And definitely, for me. As soon as I jumped off, they immediately grabbed me by the arms, by the legs, by the belt, and so on, without putting me down to the ground, they ran and dragged me into the "crater". And before that, the entire station was blocked - the passengers were driven inside and guards were posted near the doors. And so, the whole station watched how the Kamyshlov prison "received" me. And the funny thing is, when we went to in this "funnel", the driver played a recording of "Cabin Driver". After all, everyone was listening to me then, everywhere. And the cops were listening, and the investigators who were interrogating. One told me so directly: they say, I personally like your album, but what can I do ? The prison in Kamyshlov is shaped like an "o", the cell windows face the courtyard. To prevent the cells from talking to each other, there are loudspeakers in the courtyard - they play music if anything happens. So, very often it was music from my album. And when I'm on trial they were driving, again in the “funnel” they played “Take me, cab driver”...", - said the artist.

After serving a year in Kamyshlov, Novikov was then transferred to one of the camps in the north of the country. The camp leadership greeted the singer with all the “honors” due to his rank. A large-scale search was carried out in the zone - all guitars and tape recorders were confiscated from the prisoners, as well as from the guards. It was strictly forbidden to bring these things into the camp territory. Novikov was prohibited from moving through the zone towards the club.

“Various provocations were organized against me. In the camp, there are enough bastards who want to be released early, join these prevention councils, “bandages”, or, in the camp, “goats”. These “goats” were set against me. But I did not tolerate insults, alone chest broke, broke another's jaw. Well, I constantly ended up in a punishment cell...", Novikov recalled.

In 1990, by Decree Supreme Council RSFSR Novikov was released. Later, the Supreme Court of Russia overturned the verdict for lack of evidence of a crime.

Alexander Novikov - Take me, cabbie

In his youth, he wore a tattoo on his arm in the form of the letters “N.” WITH." (Novikov Sasha).

A. Novikov wrote the song “On Eastern Street” (album “City Romance”, 1995) in 1984, when he was in solitary confinement in a punishment cell for 30 days.

He came up and asked: “Girl, do you sing or dance?” Of course, with the purpose of “staying in”, starting a conversation. She was offended: “What kind of dancing? I’m a singer. Natasha Sturm. Who are you?” - "Alexander Novikov". She looked carefully: “And I thought Novikov was a little bald Jew and lived in America.” I was even taken aback by this idea of my person.", - said Novikov.

There was a legend (told by Novikov himself) that he won the singer at cards from some mafia structures. But it was a PR fairy tale in order to arouse public interest. “It was a joke. If Alexander had said that he met me at the Lenin Library, no one would have believed it. And the cards - beautiful legend. Fit on the image cool guy, who served in the camps,” Natalya Sturm later admitted.

In 1994, together with director Kirill Kotelnikov, he filmed documentary about the group "Boney M." and its creator Frank Farian “Oh, that Farian!” (“Oh, this Farian!”). Filming took place in Luxembourg and Germany, the film included unique interviews with Farian and materials from his personal archive. However, the film was never shown on Russian television.

Data

The personal life of Alexander Novikov, a famous chansonnier, is shrouded in a veil of silence, since the singer himself does not really like to talk about himself. The famous poet, composer and performer, so beloved by Russians of songs in the genre of Russian chanson and urban romance, has a wife and children, of whom Alexander Vasilyevich is very proud. Alexander Novikov's wife, Marina, and her husband have been together for more than forty years, during which time, as people say, they ate more than a pound of salt...

Personal life of Alexander Novikov

Alexander Vasilievich Novikov is a wonderful poet, composer and chanson performer. The wife of Alexander Novikov, according to the most famous artist, is a wise and reliable friend, a strong and courageous person. They met while studying at the institute, while students were undergoing geodetic practice. First there were ardent, tender feelings, a wedding, and then children. The personal life of Alexander Novikov (born October 31, 1953) and his wife, Marina, was filled with happiness and joy, when suddenly, quite unexpectedly, grief came to the family: Alexander Vasilyevich was charged with anti-Soviet propaganda and brought to justice for the manufacture of counterfeit equipment.

The sentence at that time (1984-1985) was strict: ten years in prison. In an interview, Novikov said that in reality he was imprisoned for his new album of songs “Take Me, Cabby.” Moreover, in the “Case” fabricated against Alexander there is a corresponding “Expertise on the songs of Alexander Novikov”, where reviews were given for each song on this album. As a result, a decision was made that “the author of the above-mentioned songs needs, if not psychiatric, then prison isolation, for sure.”

In 1984, Alexander Novikov was arrested, and in 1985 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The singer's wife was also regularly interrogated, despite the small children. As often happens in such situations, many former friends turned away from her at that difficult time. Maria raised two children alone, helping Alexander Novikov survive the difficult six years of camp life. As a faithful wife, she regularly visited her husband, for which he was eternally grateful to her.

Her love and unshakable faith in him helped the woman save her family and put Alexander Novikov in the hearts of her children good relations to their father. When Perestroika began in the country, Alexander Novikov was released. He performed a lot and began to earn good money. The popular artist has new friends and persistent fans. At the same time, Alexander Novikov’s wife faced new challenges. Despite the fact that the sought-after chansonnier sincerely loves his wife, as evidenced by numerous songs dedicated to her, different things happened in the artist’s life...

However, Maria, with her characteristic wisdom and patience, managed to save her family in this far from easy time. Now Alexander Novikov is absolutely sure that only thanks to the prudence and tolerance of his wife, their personal life, family, children - everything completely took place. Husband, wife and children love, respect and always show touching care for each other. Harmony and complete mutual understanding reign in the Novikov family. Photos from the archive of Alexander Novikov, as well as his poems and songs are presented on the personal website of the poet, singer and composer.

Children of Alexander Novikov

Alexander Novikov has two wonderful children - son Igor, who at first was simply interested in photography, and over time, began to engage in photography professionally. Today he is the owner of a photo salon. Daughter Natalya is a designer and art critic. The children of the famous singer Alexander Novikov have a decent education and are passionate about their work. Igor and Natalya already have their own children, thanks to whom, to such awards of Alexander Novikov as the Ovation Prize (1995), the Yesenin Prize (2005), the Chanson of the Year Prize (2002-2003; 2005-2018), the no less honorable title “Favorite” was added Grandfather".

His daughter, Natalya, began studying at the School of Arts while still at school. Natasha was an excellent drawer. Vyacheslav Zaitsev, who is on friendly terms with Novikov, approved of Natalya Alexandrovna’s creative successes. Currently Natalia is a successful designer. Sometimes he works with his father on his projects as a graphic designer. The singer's discography contains about 80 music collections and albums, in addition, Alexander Novikov published 8 books with his poems and songs. For them, at her father’s request, Natalya developed the cover design.

Creative biography of the singer, composer and public figure

Today, Alexander Novikov, a Russian chansonnier, is known and loved not only at home, in Russia, but also abroad. His creative biography is truly multifaceted. In addition to the wonderful songs and videos created under his leadership, the Ural State Variety Theater, whose artistic director is Alexander Vasilyevich Novikov, has gained fame.

Novikov’s song “Carrier,” which is sung on behalf of a former prisoner yearning for a friend, became fatal for Alexander himself: in 1984, he was also unexpectedly arrested, after which his biography changed dramatically. The singer’s life turned into a detective story “not for the faint of heart.” And only man strong-willed, was able to endure what befell Novikov. Now, when more than three decades have passed, he recalls that time calmly, without becoming embittered. That is why the composer and singer persistently writes songs about love.

Alexander was born in Kamchatka into the family of a military pilot. He lived with his parents in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and spent his youth in Yekaterinburg. Having gone through the harsh school of life and becoming a famous chansonnier, Alexander Vasilyevich spends most of his earnings on charity. An example is the construction of the Yekaterinburg Church on the Blood, for which Alexander, together with the famous Ural master Nikolai Pyatkov, developed models of seven bells and cast them at his own expense.

For this and many of his other good deeds in 2003, Alexander Novikov was awarded the Order of the Holy Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow. Since 2004, he has been the permanent president Charitable Foundation“400th anniversary of the House of Romanov,” which still exists today in the Urals. And in 1993, Alexander Novikov became the producer of the talented singer Natalia Sturm. During four years of working with the singer, the poet and composer wrote singles for two albums. Loved by viewers and listeners music album“School Romance” and a video with the same name were actively broadcast on all Russian TV channels.

Alexander Novikov and Natalya Sturm on stage

However, there was some spice here too: Natalya Sturm’s success was to some extent facilitated by a journalistic canard published in the Speed-Info newspaper. It said that Alexander Novikov allegedly won the young singer at cards. There are many more fables and made-up stories contained in creative biography famous singer. However, this does not bother him and does not affect his further successes in any way. Therefore, in 2014-2018, he is a permanent member of the jury of the popular program “Three Chords” and annually performs in the Kremlin at the National Award “Chanson of the Year”.

October 31, 1953 In the village of Burevestnik near the island of Iturupe, the creative and famous Alexander Novikov was born. Known as an author and musician of songs in the genre of Russian chanson. His father is a military pilot, his mother is a housewife.

WITH early age The parents developed the boy comprehensively. As a child I went to boxing, then to sambo. Mom tried to instill a love for the theater. The first production they attended was “Unknown Man with a Tail.” The family moved to Kyrgyzstan to the city of Bishkek, the boy was 6 years old. Went to first grade in 1960. In 1969 moved to Sverdlovsk, where he completed his education, and in 1970 received his diploma. To this day he works and lives in Sverdlovsk. After he graduated from school, he entered three universities: the Ural Polytechnic, the Sverdlovsk Mining, and the Ural Forestry, and he was expelled from each for their own reasons.

Personal life

At the last university I met a girl named Masha. Soon, in 1975, she became his wife and in the same year gave birth to his son Igor. Seven years later, she also gave birth to a daughter, who was named Natasha. Novikov challenged rules and principles. The guy had character and often went against people's opinions. He criticized the Soviet regime. In principle he was not a Komsomol member; he terribly did not tolerate them. The authorities were interested in such a person, and the highest circles kept a vigilant eye on him.

Hobbies

Since the 1970s, he fell in love with cars and for this reason he got a job as an auto mechanic. His job was to restore cars after car accidents. Novikov had a “kopek” car, which he purchased. Some driver crashed it, and Alexander managed to restore it, thus taking it for himself. In the late 70s I became interested in rock music. Sasha got a job in restaurants in Sverdlovsk as a musician and singer. He worked in such establishments as “Cosmos”, “Malachite”, “Ural dumplings”.

The beginning of creativity

Over the 4 years of work, I collected quite a lot of money. He opened his own workshop, Novik-Records. There he began recording his rock songs.

He created his own group “Rock Polygon” in 1980. He called his first album “Rock Polygon”. The songs were performed in the styles of rock and roll, reggae, new wave with elements of punk rock and psychedelic rock. The government did not support the activity of the musicians, so the group was not entirely legal. The musical equipment was made by Novikov himself. Musicians still use some of the equipment today.

In 1984, Alexander Novikov liked chanson, he wanted to create his own “sultry” songs. In 1984, he released an album with 18 songs. The following people worked on the creation of the album: Abramov, Khomenko, Chekunov, Kuznetsov, Elizarov. This is how the hits “Take Me, Cabby”, “I Came from the Jewish Quarter” and “Remember, Girl?” appeared.

We worked on the album at night in the House of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Uralmash plant. They avoided the authorities, they were afraid that they would not have time to finish what they started, but they were not afraid of prison. An elderly gentleman, an expert in this matter, took up the promotion of this album. True, he immediately told Novikov: “I can roll this out to the whole country in two months, but you, young man, will be imprisoned.” The guy’s moral character did not stop him, and already on May 3, 1984, the album “Take Me, Cabby” was released. The album became very popular, broke all records in terms of circulation, and was listened to in all corners of the country and throughout the Soviet Union. The furor was amazing. The musician was being watched, his phone was wiretapped, and the sector of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was outraged by this behavior.

Arrest and freedom

On October 5, 1984, the musician was captured right on the street and placed in a detention center in Sverdlovsk. The criminal case contained every song of his and a review of it. The authorities believed that Alexander Novikov should end up either in mental asylum or to jail. The musician was also accused of creating musical equipment. He was given 10 years of strict regime.

During all the years of imprisonment, he was offered light work, but Alexander refused; he, like everyone else, worked in logging and construction. Novikov was a man with a modest demeanor who was not afraid of hard work, for which all the prisoners respected him. While alone in the cell for 30 days, he wrote his next song, “On the Eastern Street.” He was released in 1990 by the Russian Armed Forces and the verdict was annulled. In the 90s he became artistic director of the Song Theater. The musician was included in the list of undesirable persons for his unpleasant statements.

Creative inspiration

Towards the mid-90s, Alexander Novikov began performing on television and radio. He toured, gave concerts and recorded new albums.

In 1993 he was the producer of the young singer Natalya Sturm. He made a documentary film about the group “Boney M.” and its creator Frank Farian "Oh, this Farian!" in 1994. Filming took place in Luxembourg and Germany, the film included unique interviews with Farian and materials from his personal archive. The film was not shown in Russia. Alexander Novikov also starred in such films as “Gop-Stop Show”, “Remember, Girl?”, “I Just Got Out of the Cage”. Novikov received the Ovation Award in the Urban Romance category in 1995. He created an album called “Sergei Yesenin”, wrote songs based on the poet’s poems, musicians appreciated his album and considered it the best. Alexander wrote over 300 songs and poems.

The first video that became unique was “Chansonette”. In this video, all the characters were made by hand without any help. computer graphics. Alexander Novikov was the first to create the genre of urban romance.

Life today

Today, Sasha lives with his wife and is proud of his children and grandchildren. Loves fishing and hunting. He became an authority in criminal circles, but he sees nothing wrong with it. Sasha is a believer and helps in the construction of the temple. He cast bells for the Church on the Blood and for the Monastery of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers on Ganina Yama. The bells are uniquely designed. He became an outstanding musician of the twentieth century. The best work thinks “Remember, girl?” Takes part in the Kremlin National Award “Chanson of the Year”. He classifies his songs as masculine lyrics. Tours often. Alexander Novikov is a musician, composer, singer, author and public figure. President of the Ural Foundation “400 years of the House of Romanov”. He directs the Variety Theater in Yekaterinburg.

When he was appointed artistic director, the first thing he did was give an order to ban the play “Blue Puppy,” in which he saw signs of promoting pedophilia.
