Among the outstanding commanders and military leaders of our country there are many who went through the harsh Far Eastern school. Here Marshals of the Soviet Union V.K. gained combat experience. Blucher, G.K. Zhukov, A.M. Vasilevsky, K.K. Rokossovsky, I.S. Konev, N.I. Krylov, R.Ya. Malinovsky, K.A. Meretskov, S.S. Biryuzov, A.I. Eremenko, V.I. Chuikov, army generals A.P. Beloborodoye, I.I. Fedyuninsky, G.I. Khetagurov and others.

Afanasy Pavlantievich Beloborodov lived a glorious and great life. He was born on January 18 (31), 1903 in the village of Akinino (now Irkutsk region). Already at the age of 16, he took part in the civil war in the Far East as part of the 8th Irkutsk Regiment of the 1st Chita Rifle Division.

“As a sixteen-year-old teenager, I picked up a rifle and went to defend Soviet power,” recalled A.P. Beloborodov. - Received baptism of fire in Uvarov’s partisan detachment in Irkutsk. In 1923, together with three fellow countrymen, he crossed the threshold of the Irkutsk Infantry School and became a cadet. In 1926 he graduated from the Nizhny Novgorod Infantry School. The cadets Krysin, Shestakov, and Aksenov and I were given the right to choose our place of service, since we had the highest scores in the final exams. All four asked to go to the Far East...”. After graduating from the infantry school, A.P. Beloborodoye served in the 6th Khabarovsk Regiment as a platoon commander. Senior comrades, for example political worker V.N. Bogatkin, tried to help him achieve high results in his service, to become an example for the Red Army soldiers and regiment commanders. To be honest, there was once a period when Beloborodov spent his free time carelessly. In the company of older officers who had been trained in the pre-revolutionary army, he sometimes played preference with them until the morning. As a result, he showed up for duty sleep-deprived. Naturally, this harmed his official activities. Conversations with V.N. Bogatkin (during the Great Patriotic War - lieutenant general (1942), member of the Military Councils of the North-Western, 2nd Baltic, Leningrad fronts) forced the young platoon commander to think seriously about himself and the quality of his service. And the result was not slow to show. Soon his platoon became the best in the unit. Then he studied at the Engels military-political courses in Leningrad and was appointed political instructor of the company of the 107th Vladimirovsky Regiment. In the Far East, in particular on the Amur land, the young commander of a machine gun platoon underwent a brilliant school of military training. It was here, already in the position of political instructor of a rifle company, that he had the opportunity to take part in his first battle.

On November 17, 1929, Soviet soldiers launched an offensive against large forces of White Chinese and Russian White Guards. “By order of the company commander Lepeshko, we turned into a chain,” recalled A.P. Beloborodov,” they dashed towards the hill. The fire intensified, the first wounded appeared, the company lay down. Lepeshko rose to his full height: “Comrades, forward, follow me, hurray!” And then he fell, struck by a bullet. He rushed towards him - he was killed! I can’t say that at that moment I was thinking somehow coherently. There was only one thought: “The commander has been killed, I am a political instructor, the soldiers are looking at me, I must...”. He jumped up, shouted something, and ran to the hill. I didn’t feel the ground beneath me, I heard the clatter of boots behind me, bullets were whistling, freshly dug trenches, blackened by parapets, seemed to be moving towards me, people in black clothes were getting out of there and running away from us up the slope of the hill... They jumped into the trenches, into They are only killed white Chinese. "Forward!"

In this battle, A.P. Beloborodov showed not only personal courage, but also remarkable leadership abilities. The battle was won, Beloborodov’s company was the first to break into Zhalainor. Soon the first Order of the Red Banner appeared on the chest of the future army commander - the highest award of the Soviet state of those years.

A.P. Beloborodov served for about four years in the 107th Infantry Regiment in Transbaikalia, in a taiga village. “Once they sent us from the district headquarters a thick book,” he recalled, “the exam program for the M.V. Military Academy. Frunze". At first, he was overwhelmed by doubts: whether he was able to study at this famous university. However, supported by his wife in his decision to study, he draws up a strict preparation schedule. For more than two years, Beloborodov purposefully prepared to enter the academy, studying for two hours on weekdays, four on Saturday, and six on Sunday. I canceled my vacation trips.

In 1933, A. Beloborodov passed the exams, first at the division headquarters, and then at the headquarters of the Transbaikal Group of Forces. With several comrades he was sent to Moscow. Having successfully passed exams in 17 subjects in 45 days, he was enrolled to study at the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze.
After graduating with the rank of senior lieutenant, he again received an appointment to the Special Red Banner Far Eastern Army - assistant chief of the operational unit of the headquarters of the 66th Infantry Division.

The authors of many publications about the military path of A.P. Beloborodov was not mentioned that in the pre-war years he served in units of the 12th Infantry Division, located in the Amur Region. And the service there, as they say, “didn’t seem like honey” to him. In a recently published book by the famous military historian, Doctor of Sciences O.F. Suvenirova “Tragedy of the Red Army 1937-1938” - (M.: TERRA, 1998) the authors found the following material. In the chapter “Atmosphere” there are the following lines: “Commanders, especially young ones, reacted very painfully to the manifestation of outright rudeness, and even outright rudeness on the part of senior commanders. Many of them sincerely believed that with the abolition of military ranks and insignia, any politeness was almost bad form.

A number of commanders, unencumbered by culture, mastered the “obscene language” almost perfectly. One of these lovers of “obscene education” of subordinates was the commander of the 12th Infantry Division (Blagoveshchensk) Smirnov. The future general of the army, and then the chief of staff of the 35th rifle regiment of this division A.P. Beloborodov complained in 1935: “And the work is going well, and you want to work, but you have to run away from the division. It’s impossible to live with a division commander.”. He was echoed by the chief of staff of the training artillery division Proskuryakov: “It’s stuffy. I can't breathe. They bother you with dirt, but you remain silent".

On the eve of the war A.P. Beloborodoye headed the combat training department of the Far Eastern Front headquarters. He was awarded the military rank of "Colonel". Soon after the German attack on the USSR - July 11, 1941 - he was appointed commander of the 78th Infantry Division in Khabarovsk.
In mid-October 1941, by order of the command, the division, plunging into 36 echelons, departed to the West at the speed of courier trains.

And so the 78th Division2 joined the ranks of the defenders of the capital. On October 14, 1941, she received a directive from the Supreme Command Headquarters on her inclusion in the active army. On the last October night of 1941, the division unloaded in the forests southwest of the city of Istra, positioned on both sides of the railway and the Volokolamsk highway. On November 3, the division was included in the 16th Army, commanded by K.K. Rokossovsky.

In fierce battles to defend the capital of our Motherland, the 78th Infantry Division under the command of AL. Beloborodova fought to the death. Even their enemies noted the particular resilience of the Far Easterners. Thus, the German General Gepner, commander of the 4th Panzer Army, trying to justify the failure of one of his divisions, noted in his notes: “It is opposed by the 78th Siberian Division, which does not leave a single village, not a single grove without a fight.”.

In these battles A.P. Beloborodov brilliantly passed the harsh test of military leadership maturity. He was promoted to major general and awarded the second Order of the Red Banner. In the battles in the Stalingrad direction, the Siberian successfully commanded the 5th Guards Rifle Corps. And he and his troops more than once received gratitude from the command there.

During the Belarusian operation A.P. Beloborodov confidently leads the 43rd Army, which distinguished itself in the defeat of the Vitebsk enemy group. Commander of the 1st Baltic Front, Marshal I.Kh. Bagramyan later noted in his memoirs “the exceptional persistence and determination of the commander of the 43rd Army, Lieutenant General A.P. Beloborodov, and the high fighting qualities of the troops he led, which manifested themselves during the operation.” For his military skill, the army commander was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 22, 1944.

He became a Twice Hero on April 19, 1945 for his skillful leadership of troops during the assault on Konigsberg, the citadel of Prussian militarism. Colonel General A.P. demonstrated the high art of troop leadership, personal courage and determination. Beloborodov, commanding the 1st Red Banner Army of the 1st Far Eastern Front in the war against Japan. Having overcome seemingly impassable mountains and taiga, Beloborodov’s army reached the city of Mudanjiang, cutting off the retreat route of the Japanese V Army, and then capturing it. The army commander was awarded the Commander's Order of Suvorov.

After the war A.P. Beloborodov held a number of major posts in the Soviet Army: he commanded troops in Port Arthur, was the head of the combat training department of the Ground Forces, the head of the higher officer courses “Vystrel”, and successively commanded the Voronezh and Moscow military districts.

Afanasy Pavlantyevich paid great attention to the military-patriotic education of youth. His books of memoirs “Through Fire and Taiga”, “Feat of Arms”, “Breakthrough to Harbin”, “Always in Battle” are very popular. Since 1953, on Labor Square in Irkutsk there has been a bronze bust of twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Army General A.P. Beloborodov, made by sculptor G.I. Motovilov and architect L. M. Polyakov. The name of the remarkable army commander is etched in the centuries.

On May 3, 1942, she was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, and her 22nd Infantry Regiment was awarded the Order of Lenin. Librarian- Guys! Today you will learn about a person and events that happened long before your birth. You, children of the 21st century, know about the Great Patriotic War only from books, movies, and the stories of your grandfathers and great-grandfathers. And no matter how bitter it is to realize they are becoming less and less. Photographs, war relics, meetings with veterans - these are the invisible strong threads that unite generations and make you strong. If memory weakens and fades, then people, no matter how well and sweetly they live, become weak, incapable of creation. I would like to believe that the Great Patriotic War of the 20th century will become for you a sacred memory and pride that your ancestors are winners, and not just a paragraph from a history textbook. This is memory, hearts, connecting a Russian with his roots, nourishing the soul, giving strength and courage to live in the modern world. It is very important to know the military exploits of your fellow countrymen. After all, when you become adults, you will pass it on to the next generation. This is the only way to preserve and not break the connection between times and generations. Today we will learn about the military exploits of our fellow countryman. The guys will tell you about 8 feats, but in fact there are many more of them, because the general lived such a long life and his whole life was a feat.

Presenter 1 - The life and fate of our illustrious fellow countryman, Afanasy Pavlantyevich Beloborodov, is very interesting and unusual. He was born on January 31, 1903 into a peasant family, his father was a hunter in the taiga village of Anikino-Baklashi, which is located on the banks of Irkut, now Shelekhovsky district, Irkutsk region. He studied at a parochial school. Already as a child, he firmly decided: “I will still be a general!” 1913 turned out to be a fruitful year. From morning to evening everyone worked, from young to old. Most of the village was engaged in mowing. - “Afonka, Afonka! Quickly to mow! Dad and mom have been there since early morning!” - Danka threw a potato at his brother. - “Yes, now, I’m coming, I’m coming!” - Afonka tried to dodge the heavy bullet. A boy of about ten with curly hair, blue eyes and red freckles like the sun, emerged from under a haystack, shook off the straw and sat down on the fence. From this place he watched the neighboring boys who had gathered to play war. I should help my parents, but I really want to break my promise and run off to play with the boys. - “Oh, it was not! I’ll be mowing in half an hour.” Afonka jumped off the fence, and only his heels sparkled. Danka grabbed a rake and set off after him. Two steps away from Afonka, he gathered all his strength and attacked him. Clutching each other, they rolled straight into the nettles. Whimpering from the burns, the brothers crawled out of the nettles. - "Come with me! But we’ll just catch Proshka captive and immediately go to mowing, otherwise he’ll get too cocky.” The sun was shining, Irkut sparkled in its rays, a wide clearing, a small forest - this is what the place for playing war looked like. The guys were divided into two teams. Afonka was always chosen as the leader: after all, he was the most resourceful, responsible and reliable commander. When they saw the commander, the boys stood with their chests forward, like soldiers in front of the commander-in-chief. His faithful assistants in the game and any trouble. In the enemy team, the main one was Proshka Kuznetsov. Proshka was a boastful boy: for good reason - his father kept a shop in the village and the family knew no need. And now he’s showing off the real gun he came to play war with. - “Proshka, oh Proshka!” Let me at least touch the gun!” - “Don’t be afraid, guys, it’s not loaded!” - Proshka boasts. - “Afonka, don’t be angry, I’ll go for Proshka.” - says Danka. - “Well, go for it! We don't need traitors! – Afonka stamped his foot with annoyance, although he understood that a leader with a real gun was better than one with a piece of wood. A strange premonition of trouble haunted me. I didn't even want to play. But there was nothing to do, the teams prepared for battle. Afonka gathered his army: - You, Vaska, will sit behind the tree. Petka hide behind a bush. Volodka and Yashka are covering. I'll be on the way down. There we’ll grab Proshka, and without the main thing, where will they go! Everything is in place!Presenter -2 Enemy, “surround!” caused serious horror. There was a crash and suddenly a real shot rang out. Afonka rushed towards the noise and saw Vitka Kostyukhin, wounded in the leg. The boy turned pale from pain and fear and looked at the guys with wide eyes. Afonka rushed at Proshka with his fists: You swore it wasn’t loaded! Look what you've done! Guys, let's take him to the doctor." The boys carefully lifted the wounded man and carried him. Biting his lips, Afonka looked at Vitka, trying with all his soul to share his pain. Everyone sat waiting and then the doctor came out: - Well, atamans, have you fought? Thank God the bone is intact. You should tell your parents so they can give you a good spanking! The Beloborodovs are probably up to it again? – and the doctor Volynin looked reproachfully at Afanasy. Afonka clenched his teeth and quietly whispered: “But I will still be a general!” I would like to mentally divide the heroic biography of our fellow countryman, Army General A.P. Beloborodov, who went through three wars: the Civil War, the Great Patriotic War and the Russian-Japanese War, into exploits.

The feats of arms of our illustrious fellow countryman

Feat 1st - Partisan detachment . The very first feat of a 16-year-old boy was voluntarily joining a partisan detachment. The years of A.P. Beloborodov’s youth coincided with the revolution that began in 1917 and then the Civil War. In December 1919, the peasants of Akinino-Baklashi organized a detachment to help the rebel Irkutsk workers. Together with his older brother, he joined a partisan detachment that went to the aid of the workers of the Glazkovsky suburb who rebelled against Kolchakism. The sixteen-year-old boy took part in the battles against the army of Admiral Kolchak, near Irkutsk, then fought in a partisan detachment in the Far East. After the reorganization of partisan detachments and worker-peasant squads into regular units of the Red Army, he became a fighter in the 8th Irkutsk Regiment. Until the spring of 1920, Afanasy Pavlantievich was in the Red Army and would not have left his service if he had not caught a cold while standing at his post at the barracks. He became seriously ill, lost his hearing and was discharged from the army. In his native village, he was accepted into the rural Komsomol cell, but did not give up the thought of becoming an officer and in 1923 he entered the Irkutsk Infantry School.

This school trained junior commanders and was located on 5th Army Street. Two years later, having graduated from the infantry school for platoon commanders, Afanasy Pavlantievich received an assignment to the Far East. Here he went through all the main army ranks from platoon commander to colonel.

Podvig-2 thOperation on the Chinese Eastern Railway. He took part in military operations on the Chinese Eastern Railway (CER). In the midst of the battle, the company commander and political instructor Beloborodov, without any doubt, took command of the company and led the soldiers into the attack, the company was the first to break into the Zhalaynor station, cutting off the White Chinese’s escape route. For courage, bravery, initiative and remarkable leadership abilities, the political instructor of the company, Beloborodov, was awarded the highest at that time, the first military award -Order of the Red Banner. This was back in 1929. After graduating from the Military Academy in 1936, A.P. Beloborodov held senior positions in the headquarters of the Red Army. On the eve of the war, he was awarded the rank of colonel and appointed commander of the 78th Infantry Division.

Feat 3 –thBattle for Moscow . A.P. Beloborodov met the Great Patriotic War in Khabarovsk. In the midst of heavy fighting near Moscow, Colonel Beloborodov's division, by order of the Headquarters of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Stalin, goes to the front. The 78th Division, which he commanded in the Far East, was transferred to the west in October 1941 at the height of the battle for Moscow. Here, near Moscow, where the fate of the capital was being decided, just 26 km from Moscow, Siberian soldiers occupied the lines. Since November 1941, the division has been fighting stubborn defensive battles in the Istra direction. Beloborodov’s division bravely held the defense and dealt brutal blows to the fascists. In the battles near Moscow, Siberian fighters and commanders, led by their brave division commander, proved themselves to be real heroes.

Soon the division was already fighting in one of the decisive strategic directions of the battle for the capital -Volokolamsk . It held defenses on both sides of the Volokolamsk highway. From November 15 to December 5, Colonel Beloborodov’s division repelled numerous attacks by 4 fascist divisions, including the SS division “Imperia 2,” which sought to break through the front. Having exhausted the fascist divisions, on December 6 Beloborodov’s division went on the offensive and drove the enemy 80 km from the capital. The Germans were terrified of the Siberians - infantrymen. German soldiers, knowing that Siberians were going into battle, threw down their machine guns and ran from the battlefield shouting “Siberians.”

General K.K. Rokossovsky in his memoirs “A Soldier’s Duty” assessed the role of the division as follows: “It’s hard to even say how timely the Siberians joined the ranks of our troops. If the division of I.V. Panfilov played a great role near Volokolamsk, then in November the division of Colonel A.P. Beloborodov made an equally significant contribution to the decisive battles for Moscow " The commander of the Western Front, Army General G.K. Zhukov, noted: “Staunchly holding its positions, the division repelled all attacks by enemy tanks and infantry.”

During the days of the battles for Moscow, he visited parts of the division commanded by Beloborodovwriter Alexander Beck , who wrote the story about Beloborodov’s division “One day as a division commander" wrote: "These days shocked me. Many times I heard the stories of war participants, I saw some things myself, but I didn’t suspect that people could fight the way the Siberians - the Red Army soldiers of the 78th - fought.” For military skill, courage and perseverance, on November 26, 1941, the 78th Division was transformed into the 9th Guards Division, and Afanasy Pavlantyevich on the same day was promoted to general and awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

Feat 4th Feat at Stalingrad dedicated to the poem “Stalingrad” by Alexei Surkov (read by Petukhova M.)

Siberian soldier faithful to the oath,

He defended Stalingrad

Gulko rolled into the bloody darkness

Hundredth attack shaft

Angry and stubborn, chest-deep in snow

The soldier stood to death.

He knew that there would be no turning back -

He defended Stalingrad

A hundred dive bombers howled over him

In the sky, like a fiery serpent,

The Siberian did not leave the trench, we store

Loyalty to Russia

Between the burnt black masses

The Siberian defended Stalingrad.

The tank was approaching him, growling.

He threatened with certain death.

He, hiding in a trench, shoulder

He hit tanks with a grenade.

Bullet for bullet, shell for shell.

The Siberian defended Stalingrad.

Just a soldier, an officer, a general -

He grew up in the suffering of battle

Where metal dies in fire,

He passed alive

One hundred grueling days in a row

The Siberian defended Stalingrad.

The winter of 1942-43 has passed. General Beloborodov's corps was resting after long battles near Stalingrad. The courage of the Siberian soldiers was well known at the headquarters of Commander-in-Chief Stalin. War correspondents often visited the Belorodovites. The writer A. Bek came, who wrote a book about Beloborodov, “One Day in the Life of a Division General,” and in peacetime a feature film was made based on the book. Afanasy Pavlantievich especially fell in love with the poet A. Surkov and his song “Dugout,” which he knew by heart: (A recording of the song sounds)

You're far, far away now

Between us there is snow and snow.

It’s not easy for me to reach you,

And there are four steps to death...

Listening to the song, Afanasy Pavlantyevich’s tears welled up and his heart sank painfully. He remembered his family, friends and especially Proshka Kuznetsov, a constant enemy in distant childhood wars: Proshka died a heroic death on the battlefield, not in a toy war, but in the Great Patriotic War.

Feat 5th Vitebsk operation. After the Battle of Moscow there were heavy defensive battles on the Southwestern Front in Belarus. It was 1942. Seasoned in the battles near Moscow, the guardsmen of General Beloborodov showed unshakable steadfastness and courage, they did not concede a single meter of Russian soil to the enemy without a fight, for heroism and courage, Marshal Timoshenko ordered that all personnel of the division be thanked. The front-line newspaper “Red Army” wrote about the soldiers of the 9th Guards: “Where the guardsman-hero stood, the enemy cannot pass there.” The division commander showed great skill in leading troops, tenacity and perseverance in achieving tasks. The headquarters appointed Beloborodov commander of the 5th Guardshousings. This was recognition of the commander's military talent. In the Belarusian operation of 1944, Beloborodov prepared an operation to encircle and destroy German troops near the city of Vitebsk, and the 43rd Army successfully completed the task entrusted to it. The captured German General Goltzer admitted: “It was a beautiful and talented military operation " The Russian army recognized our weak positions." Rokossovsky called the 78th “division of iron grip” and more than once noted the energy and military skill of its commander A.B. Beloborodov. For the successful implementation of the Vitebsk operation to General BeloborodovJune 22, 1944 of the year awarded the titleHero of the Soviet Union .

Feat 6th. Capture of the Koenigsberg fortress. In March - April 1945, Army Commander Beloborodov took part in the operation to capture the fortified city of Konigsberg. The soldiers of his army were the first to enter the fortress. “...the most remarkable thing about this operation,” recalled A.P. Beloborodov, “we not only completed it four times faster than planned, but most importantly, with minor losses.” For this operation A.P.Beloborodov was awarded the second Gold Star medal, and on May 9, 1945 he was awarded the rank of Colonel General.

Feat - 7th. Russo-Japanese War . The war with Nazi Germany in the west ended with Victory. But in the east the hotbed of war continued to burn. Aggressive Japan captured Manchuria and the Far East. Guided by allied obligations, our country declared war on Japan. In July, after the Victory Parade on Red Square, Beloborodov was appointed commander of the 1st Army of the Far Eastern Front. The Russian-Japanese War began. "On the night of August 9, 1945. Beloborodov's troops entered the taiga. She made a dull noise from the treetops. Under the soldiers’ feet there was either sticky earth, then water, or sharp slippery stones... A rifle battalion, 5 tanks, two companies of machine gunners, and a platoon of sappers were pushing through the thickets of vines and trees. The tanks moved in ledges: two of them paved a path 5 meters wide in the taiga thickets, and 3 helped to remove windfalls, felled trees, intertwined with vines and wild grapes. Shooters and sappers felled thick trees and uprooted stumps. This heroic work was carried out over a distance of 20 km.” This The taiga strip was considered impassable by military experts, and the general relied on his Siberian soldiers, who from an early age were accustomed to the taiga wilderness and led 6 rifle divisions, an anti-aircraft artillery division, 400 tanks and guns, heavy artillery and thousands of vehicles with cargo through the impassable taiga . And when the taiga was passed, the soldiers attacked the Japanese. The powerful blow knocked out the Japanese army.

Thanks to experience, skill and military prowess, the offensive operation led by Beloborodov’s army ended with the complete surrender of the 5th Japanese Army: the entire Kwantung Army with its headquarters, generals, and military equipment was captured by Beloborodov’s 1st Red Banner Army. Thanks to a brilliant operation, the Russo-Japanese War ended in a very short period of time for the Second World War.

For this brilliant offensive operation, Colonel General Beloborodov was awarded his ninth award since the beginning of the war - the Order of Suvorov, 1st degree. (it is symbolic that Suvorov led the Army through the Alps)

Feat 8th and last. General's will. Army General A.P. Beloborodov died at the age of 87 on September 1, 1990. As I. Nikolaev says in his essay, “when the time came, he made the last combat decision in his life, and no one dared to stand against the order - the will of the “Sibiryak”.He returned to his soldiers who remained at his first victorious line. At the cost of their lives, they led him to the first victory, they defended together, did not give up Moscow, and he united with them in a common resting place - in a mass grave in which 9,000 Siberian soldiers rest, in the village of Snegiri, not far from Volokolamsk highway. He returned to the foggy fields near Moscow and, dissolving in them, forever united with himself the beginning and end of the Victory.”

Vladimir Beloborodov had to prove for a long time that he is not the general’s son

Last week, Vladimir Beloborodov, the son of our fellow countryman, the famous military leader Afanasy Pavlantievich Beloborodov, visited Irkutsk. Vladimir Afanasyevich has lived in Moscow for many years and is now retired. But he doesn’t look at all like a pensioner in the usual sense of the word: a dignified, youthful man, very active and active. He says that he cannot sit still - he travels a lot around the country, speaking at schools and academies. And he really regrets that people on the streets have forgotten how to smile. Especially in the capital.

Vladimir Afanasyevich, people know a lot about your father’s military service and his military exploits. But what he was like in the family, how he raised his children - for some reason this always remains behind the scenes. The facts and details of his everyday, as they say, earthly life are very interesting.

My older brother Alexey and I were on first-name terms with our parents, this has been the custom since childhood. We saw our father very rarely at home. First the war, then the tense garrison life: my father left and came from service while we were sleeping. And our mother, Zinaida Fedorovna, was in charge of our upbringing - a teacher, a beautiful woman, a person of a subtle, amazing soul. She passed away early - at just over fifty. After her death, my father worried so much for a long time that his relatives and friends were afraid for him. It was during this time that I began to treat him not only with respect, but also with tenderness. We became very close when he was involved in a car accident in 1968. There were many fractures, and his kidney was taken away. I spent a year in the hospital stretched out without getting up. And all this time we were on duty nearby. By the way, he was taught to walk again here in Siberia. My father went to Kurgan to see Ilizarov - he got me back on my feet.

What was Afanasy Pavlantievich like with his colleagues, soldiers, and superiors?

I’ll tell you for sure: I’ve never been arrogant. He was a simple man, he did not hide the fact that he was from a very poor Siberian family, he dined in the officers' mess. He demanded a lot from his subordinates, but to the point. He could joke with the fighters and make comments. He hated intrigue, snitching, and servility to party bosses. It was not easy for his superiors to deal with him: he always defended his point of view. Moreover, he was not afraid of the consequences. Let me give you an example. After the war, my father commanded a group of troops on the Liaodong Peninsula (China). And the Far Eastern District disrupted the delivery of fuel for the winter. And the winter turned out to be extremely harsh. The father himself could not achieve anything and sent the encryption directly to Stalin. It could come back to haunt you with anything. But everything worked out: coal supplies improved.

In modern parlance, your father was a celebrity. Has this helped you in your life?

No, it was more of a hindrance. Over ten years of study, I changed 8 schools. And in each case I had to prove that I was not a sissy, not a general’s son. When I entered college, I hid whose son I was, making the excuse that I had the same last name. As for the army, I didn’t serve for one reason (Vladimir Afanasyevich shows his hands - there are no two phalanges on his hands) - boyish mischief... From the age of five - a white ticket. By the way, many people have a stereotypical opinion about material values - they say, the bosses rolled like cheese in butter. Before his death, my father told me: “So that in a month our apartment will be vacated.” Which is what I did. The four-room apartment went to the state without question.

Almost all of our military leaders are buried in Red Square or Novodevichy Cemetery. Your father is on the 41st kilometer of the Volokolamsk highway.

This is his personal request in his will. It came as a surprise to everyone, although it was obvious: the main battle for my father was the battle near Moscow, where the Siberians stopped the Germans. When I took the document to the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, it was considered at a Politburo meeting. And the wish was approved. At that time there was one lonely mass grave near Volokolamsk. Now at this point there is one of the best memorial complexes in the Moscow region.

You had a nomadic childhood - Russia, Austria, China, Czechoslovakia.... And what is your most vivid memory from it?

- (Thinks about it). Probably Port Arthur. We lived there for seven years. And I still can’t forget its harbor, Tiger Mountain, Electric Cliff, monuments to Russian soldiers...

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

Born in the Primorsky Territory, graduated from the editorial department of the Moscow Printing Institute. He worked in a publishing house, the International Institute of Economic Problems, the Association of Joint Ventures, and defended his Ph.D.

When he retired, he began to participate in military-patriotic work. Now I travel a lot around Russia. Together with the daughters of Zhukov, Panfilov, and Dovator, I speak in schools, in front of students and institutes. I have a son Alexander. He graduated from the international department of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, but chose to engage in entrepreneurship. I got married two years ago. This is why he likes me - I got married at thirty. Now my wife, Natalya Demidovna, and I are expecting grandchildren. It seems that they are on the way (smiles).

Since 1957 you have lived in Moscow. What is the capital for you today?

You know, I am very worried that people have changed - they have become selfish and unkind. There is no more mutual understanding and support. Walk through the streets - no one smiles, no warm faces! People give off bad energy - you don’t want to get to know each other or communicate. When I travel on public transport, everything seems to be at its limit. That's why I prefer to travel around Moscow by car.

I think the expression “Siberian hospitality” has justified itself?

And how! I went to my father’s homeland, the village of Baklashi, and was amazed by the reception. There is a museum there in his memory - photographs, books, diaries. The "Memory" detachment is working. The kids conduct lessons on courage and meet with veterans. This is gratifying.

And it warms my heart.
