Finally, we can talk about the electric guitar learning program itself.

During his teaching activities I managed to create a fairly interesting, diverse and most importantly effective program learning to play the electric guitar. Below is a list of program elements in the appropriate order of execution. The general task of each element (riff, solo, legato, staccato, etc.) is deciphered in brackets.

FIRST STAGE:

The sequence and content of program elements is designed according to the principles of increasing complexity and minimizing the overlap of common tasks. In addition, it is important that practicing each subsequent element helps to better master the previous one. It should also be noted that a large number of real works in the program. Such a correlation between them and exercises allows you to practice technical elements, as well as their combinations in the context of real guitar parts, which significantly increases the literacy and versatility of the guitarist, increasing his vocabulary.

A universal, visual guide for guitarists, complete with tuner and metronome.

What does it take to learn to play a musical instrument? The most important thing, in my opinion, is, of course, ear for music and a sense of rhythm. However, without knowing the structure of the instrument and the basic techniques of playing it, even with one hundred percent ear it will take quite a long time to learn.

If you want to speed up this process, then it will be much easier to do this using a computer if you have special programs at hand. So, today I will introduce you to one very good utility that will help you quickly master such a popular tool today. musical instrument like a guitar.

Program Guitar Instructor at its core, it is a universal visual reference for a guitarist. At the same time, two more very necessary functions are integrated into it: a tuner and a metronome. If you have ever been interested in this kind of programs, you will have noticed that there are very few universal programs.

Usually you have to separately install programs for tuning your guitar and learning chords and scales. Here we have everything in one and at the same time completely free!!! Of the paid analogues, the Guitar Power program is closest in functionality to Guitar Instructor. Let's compare the capabilities of both:

Comparison of the Guitar Instructor program with the paid analogue Guitar Power

The disadvantage of Guitar Instructor compared to its paid counterpart, in my opinion, again :), is the lack of a function for constructing your own chords and classifying them. Minor shortcomings also include the lack of voicing of chords and scales, as well as the numbering of fingers with which to press a chord.

The advantages, of course, include a more convenient and beautiful interface and the availability of detailed information on each chord or scale.

Installing Guitar Instructor

The program is installed in the standard way. Open the downloaded archive and run the installation exe file. Now we wait until all the files are copied, and after unpacking is complete, the program can be turned on and used.

Guitar Instructor Interface

This is the main window of Guitar Instructor. Here is the beautifully designed main menu. From here we can jump into one of the program's five components: Chords, Chord Progressions, Scales, Tuner, and Metronome. Let's look at all the sections in order.

The first section, “Chords,” contains more than 600 different chords. They are clearly presented in the form of colored dots on the fingerboard, which correspond to the strings clamped on a certain fret.

Working with Chords

We have the option to choose between standard chords (Regular) and chords with modified bass (Special (Split)). Let's look at working with the “Chords” section using standard (Regular) chords as an example. First, we need to select in the first list the note corresponding to the desired chord (A - A, B - B, C - C, D - D, E - E, F - F, G - G). The second step is to choose the configuration of the chord itself.

To do this, you need to check one of 50 options in the second list. In our case, I decided to choose the A minor chord, which is shown in the screenshot. The strings on the virtual fretboard are listed in order from thickest (6th) at the bottom to thinnest (1st) at the top.

A red cross above the 6th string means that it should not sound during the game (that is, we actually start playing from the fifth string). The marks for the 1st and 5th strings are located outside the fingerboard. This means that they should not be clamped, and they remain “open” (unpressed).

Accordingly, the 2nd string should be clamped on the first fret, and the 3rd and 4th strings on the second fret. That's it - our chord is ready. Pass along the strings from top to bottom - all strings should sound clear. If any of them rattles, it means you haven’t pressed it well enough to the fingerboard or it’s being caught by a neighboring finger. Achieve clear sound.

For each of the standard chords we can get detailed help, which can be very useful. To do this, select the chord that interests us and click the “More Info” button.

In the window that opens, we will receive information about the name of the chord, its type and designation (the index that is assigned after the capital letter that denotes the main note). The “Steps” field displays the chord triad formula, and the “Recommended Scales” indicates in which scales the selected chord is used most often.

In our case, we can recognize that the minor A chord is symbolized "Am", "Amin" or "A-", is built by lowering the third degree (the "b" here means "flat") and is most often found in minor and blues pentatonic scale, as well as in the Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolian modes.

We figured out the chords. Let's close them and move on to the next section of the program - “Chord Progressions”.

Chord Links

This tab will be of interest to those who want to learn how to play not just individual chords, but entire strings of them. This can be useful when selecting chords for a particular song or even when composing your own compositions.

This section is actually a scale consisting of chords in a certain key and built according to certain rules. For example, let's take the same key of A (A). In the second list we can select the formula by which the chord progression will be calculated.

In pop songs, combinations of natural and harmonic minor chords are most often used, so in the screenshot we will look at the latter. Next to each fret is its formula, by which the entire progression is calculated.

Note that minor chords appear in the formula as small Roman numerals, and major chords as large ones. Near some minor steps you can also see an asterisk. This means that we are dealing with a diminished chord (dim).

Most popular chords

A small digression on the topic :). If you want, I'll open it little secret about modern songs? Try playing the chord progression “i – iv – V – i” (in the key of A, for example: Am – Dm – E – Am). Reminds me of something? Yes! It is these three chords that are most often played in yard songs! So, if you learn the above-mentioned combination, you will be able to play about 30% of the songs in the yard and chanson style;).

Want more? Then play the link “i – iv – VII – III” (in A: Am – Dm – G – C), and then add the previous link. Another plus 30% of songs guaranteed!!! :))).

Scales

When you are already quite confident in playing chords, you can move on to learning scales. They will help you become more familiar with the guitar fretboard in terms of where to place the right notes, which will give you the ability to eventually play powerful solos in a variety of styles. Go to the “Scales” section.

Here, as in previous cases, we select the key we need, and then in the second list we mark the scale that we want to study. Each scale can contain from 12 to 5 steps. You can find out their number and construction formula by clicking the already familiar “More Info” button.

When learning a scale on the guitar, it is best to start with the bass note itself and play until you reach its octave (the 13th semitone along with the starting note). Then play the same notes in reverse until you get back to the bass you started with.

When you have mastered the scale well within one octave, move on to studying the next octave, and then try to play the scale in two octaves in a row, etc., until you have mastered the entire selected scale. Only then can you move on to studying the next scale and only then will you be able to achieve good results in your playing.

That's it for the reference part. Guitar programs Instructor ends and her instrumental part begins, consisting of a tuner and metronome. Let's go to the "Tuner" menu.

Tuner

In this version of the program we have the opportunity to tune the guitar in standard “E” tuning. To set up, no additional equipment is required except computer speakers (or headphones) and good hearing :). We simply click on the name of the note we need and it starts to sound. All that remains is to adjust the strings to the standard. In the “File” menu we can see key combinations that are responsible for the sound of a particular note.

In the “Tuning” menu, only the standard setting is available for now, however, a new version of the program should be released soon, in which alternative settings will be available, as well as “fine” tuning via the microphone (the new version will require the .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed).

Metronome

The last thing that Guitar Instructor will please us with is a metronome. Practicing with a metronome develops a sense of rhythm very well, so it will be very useful for beginning guitarists.

Controlling it is quite simple: use the slider to set the desired tempo in the window (the number indicates the number of beats per minute) and press the “Start” button. The rhythm begins to sound, and beats of the measure are counted at the bottom of the window.

The default rhythm time signature is 4/4. If you need to change it, go to the “File” menu.

In the “Time” tab you can set one of three possible sizes: 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4 (in new version More support is expected). You can also change the sound of the metronome clicks in the corresponding “Sound 1” and “Sound 2” tabs.

conclusions

Guitar Instructor pleasantly surprises with its capabilities. With a size of only a couple of megabytes, the program contained almost five fairly high-quality separate full-fledged subroutines.

The intuitive interface allows you to quickly navigate even those who do not know in English, and the presence of such a not very common tool as a chord progression builder will help beginning guitarists quickly learn to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice!

Use Guitar Instructor and you will definitely achieve success in mastering such a wonderful instrument as the guitar. Good luck!!!

Finally, the dream of all beginning guitarists who do not have perfect pitch has come true. A program invented by the Swedes called Digital Music Mentor will automatically select for you the chords for the poke, rock or any other composition you like.

One has only to direct this wonderful useful program to a music file (for example, in MP3 format) or a CD, after analysis it will give the arrangement and sequence of the necessary chords.

On the built-in player you can track the movement of music according to the fingerings and their chords. In addition, this program for guitarists outputs bass accompaniment. The results can be printed on paper. Download, dear visitors!

Internet tutorials

As a rule, for the query “guitar tutorial”, search services return hundreds of approximately identical sites that represent Internet analogues of paper publications. There's nothing wrong with that: guides like these can give you the necessary theoretical knowledge, teach you how to play songs using tablature and read chord fingerings.

  • GuitarProfy tutorial. Here you can find all the necessary theoretical basis for further self-development, a table of correspondences between notes on the stave and frets of the guitar, as well as examples of classical guitar works.
  • GuitarUser tutorial. A small tutorial written in simple language, which will teach you how to accompany your favorite compositions. Suitable for those who want to sing songs to friends with a guitar, but do not want to become a professional.

YouTube

There are probably as many guitar tutorials on YouTube as there are text textbooks. We advise you to pay attention to those where lessons are taught by reputable musicians, or channels with a significant number of subscribers. For the rest, follow your personal preferences, and we will tell you about two popular Russian-language channels about guitar.

Pima Live

The channel of Anton and Alexey - two St. Petersburg residents who not only share tips on playing and learning, but also invite experts to give exclusive lessons, play instruments and post video reviews of guitars. There are videos for both beginners and advanced guitarists.

GuitaristTV

On this channel, guitarist Pavel posts thorough analyzes of popular compositions on acoustic guitar. The repertoire is wide: from pop hits by Max Korzh to the soundtrack from Interstellar.

Interest clubs "VKontakte"

With VKontakte groups, everything is more complicated: many advanced guitarists do not communicate in the community for beginners, but there are a lot of amateurs who consider themselves pros in such groups. We advise you to be skeptical about professional advice from groups and publics. But similar interest clubs can be very useful in finding like-minded people, chords and tablatures for songs. Also in such groups you can almost always find advertisements for sales and purchases.

  • « Guitar lovers" One of the most popular groups about the guitar on VKontakte, with more than 120 thousand subscribers. The community has a wall where you can post questions that interest you.
  • « guitar player" Another group with an open wall and a variety of content related to guitar and music.
  • « Guitar and guitarists" Project of flamenco guitarist Alexander Kuindzhi. You cannot publish a post on the wall, but you can ask a question in the discussions.

  • GTP-tabs. A huge archive of scores of Russian and foreign songs.

PreSonus Studio One 3 / wikipedia.org

A useful experience for any guitarist is to listen to yourself from the outside. This requires special applications. DAW programs (sequencers) will help you record your compositions, mix guitar tracks and create accompaniment from virtual instruments. There are at least a dozen worthy sequencers. For beginners, we advise you to pay attention to PreSonus Studio One, Steinberg Cubase and Ableton Live.

Applications
