Choosing an amateur Nikon camera and a lens for it

Two Japanese technology giants, Canon and Nikon, have been competing in the photographic equipment market for many years now and are fighting for the favor of sophisticated consumers.

Canon is a kind of monopolist in its field. This company makes almost all office equipment, plus high-quality modern cameras.

Nikon focused exclusively on developing photographic equipment. But such different strategies of these companies do not spoil the quality of either the first or the second.

Nowadays, almost every family has a camera, regardless of whether it is needed for work or leisure. But who, in the end, should you give preference to? What to choose for a beginning photographer? Which is better Canon or Nikon? Which camera is best for creating a family photo archive? Let's try to figure it out.

Comparison of advantages

Canon

  1. Let's start with the most important thing - the price of cameras.

Over the entire period of existence of these two companies on the photographic equipment market, lenses and cameras from Canon have always been a little cheaper than that of a competitor.

For example, Nikon lenses with similar characteristics have always been and remain about 10% more expensive than Canon. At the same time, the quality is the same. We can assume that this is simply a certain pricing policy of both companies, which has been established for years.

  1. There is also a difference between Canon and Nikon - all new products released by the company appear in stores almost instantly. As soon as manufacturers announce the release of a new camera or lens, you can safely count on the fact that within a month you will become the proud owner of this new product. With Nikon, everything is a little more complicated, because all the latest developments appear on the shelves within a few months. But if we are talking about a camera of an expensive price line, then you will have to wait about six months.
  2. Another definite plus of Canon cameras is video quality. No matter how hard Nikon tries, it still cannot catch up with its competitor on this point. True, the newest Nikon models improve their performance on this point, but the frame rate, which is very important when shooting video, remains higher in Canon cameras.
  3. If it's important to you number of megapixels, then you need Canon. According to this indicator, it ranks first.

Nikon

Now we can discuss the advantages of Nikon photographic equipment:

  1. The first and undeniable plus is Possibility to take photographs in dimly lit rooms and still get good quality photos. If there is not enough light, then with no Canon camera you will get such a high-quality shot as with Nikon. It is with it that you get an excellent picture with very little noise.
  2. Nikon's APS-C sensor is larger in size than Canon.
  3. Nikon cameras receive the next prize in the category autofocus. And in this section it is possible to find even two advantages.
  • The first thing is that Nikon, in principle, focuses better than Canon. With the latter, sometimes you have to switch to manual focus - and for this you need to have experienced eyes and not shaking hands.
  • The second advantage in this point is the autofocus points, or rather the predominant number of them in Nikon. This plus also cannot be ignored, since sometimes Canon’s rather limited number of autofocus points limit your actions, and focusing on the intended subject becomes a problem.

Lotions

Various adapters, which, for example, will allow you to install an old Soviet lens on a modern camera, are much easier to find from Canon and they cost an order of magnitude cheaper than Nikon.

But the latter company is very attentive to a variety of additional options with which it stuffs its cameras. Most often, all these, at first glance, insignificant details, can greatly simplify the photographer’s work.

Flashes

In terms of quality and control, both Nikon and Canon are the same.

In order to compare Nikon and Canon cameras, and compare corresponding models from different companies, you must first go through the main points.

Matrix and resolution

These parameters are decisive for a high-quality image. The matrix affects the quality of color rendering, the amount of noise, and sharpness.

All matrices, without exception, on Canon cameras are made according to new technology CMOS. Competitors still have some cameras with a CCD matrix, which even in terms of power consumption is very inferior to the young progressive development of CMOS.

Canon wins overall megapixel race: on average, when comparing identical models, Nikon has 0.3 fewer pixels - for some this may be decisive. Although the manufacturer compensates for the lack of pixels with an additional noise reduction function.

For good quality photography you need not only a good matrix, but also resolution. High resolution will allow you to take large format photos without losing detail.

Optics

Optics, or in simpler words, the lens, is also an important point when choosing a camera. Most often, the body camera itself is sold along with a standard lens that comes with the camera itself. But you can purchase everything separately and choose a lens specifically for your needs.

To compare Canon and Nikon lenses, it is worth remembering that Canon optics are only suitable for cameras of this brand, and the same rule applies accordingly for Nikon. But there are many old lenses like “Helios” or “Jupiter” that give an interesting picture and can diversify your photo leisure time.

Such lenses, with the help of an adapter, can be used on devices from both companies, but it is worth noting that Canon provides a wide range of adapters and they are easier to buy than the corresponding adapter for Nikon.

As for “native” lenses, there is no limit to the variety of both manufacturers. From portrait optics (without zoom), that is, lenses with a constant fixed focal length to the so-called telephoto lenses.

Although Canon is slightly ahead of the competition in this variety, it is more flexible pricing policy. A lens with the same characteristics will cost on average $50 cheaper from Canon.

Electronics

Electronics are almost the same from both manufacturers, supports all possible formats. Both Nikon and Canon spare no expense on quality electronics.

Many agree that Nikon is equipped with autofocus and exposure metering that is somewhat better than Canon's. It’s worth noting: Nikon’s current generation did not have photographic equipment with really bad automatic focus. Even with the D40 or D60, which had only three focusing points, auto-sharpness did not become a weak link in this case. Canon, on the other hand, had models where automatic focus adjustment was an important claim. As an example -350D, the first few 5D lines, where the focus indicator absolutely did not correspond to the class and price of the camera.

Admittedly, Canon will do strong autofocus if required. Reportage cameras like 7D and 1D are equipped with systems that are not inferior to Nikon analogues in the D300 and D4, but Canon cameras, which are not declared as professional by the company itself, are even more disadvantaged. Depending on the price and class of the Nikon camera, the level of autofocus control decreases (the lower the price, the worse the quality), but there is not much difference between expensive and low-cost models.

But it is also impossible to objectively single out the best and worst electronics systems in these cameras; both manufacturers use electronics with their own pros and cons.

Exposure Modes

Nikon's camera measures exposure better and better, while achieving maximum naturalness of the image. Canon, of course, has convenient exposure meters, but they are suitable for some specific situations (dark background, backlight, etc.)

Flash

Almost all cameras from both companies have a built-in flash, which allows you to take good pictures in evening time. Although Nikon is confidently in the lead on this point- everything related to night photography or shooting in a poorly lit room where a flash is needed - Nikon will be indispensable here.

In addition, the level of noise reduction will be very important - and Nikon also does a better job with this function. Another plus is that Nikon’s built-in flash can be controlled manually.

Ability to change settings manually

Both Nikon and Canon provide the ability to change all settings manually, as well as adjust white balance.

Ergonomics

Here you should only take into account your personal preferences. Externally, Canon and Nikon cameras are almost identical– they diverge only to the control system. As for weight, almost all Canon models are lighter by an average of 300 grams, as they are made of plastic.

Don’t think that it will fall apart after a few days - the plastic is of high quality and can safely withstand shocks and impacts. Although Nikon is still made of more reliable material - almost all models are positioned as waterproof.

Comparison of models

For comparison, let's take the Canon 60D and Nikon D7000 cameras. Both cameras are from the inexpensive line of manufacturers and their price is approximately the same - about $1000.

Canon EOS 60D

  1. 18-pixel matrix, ISO can reach 6400;
  2. The camera allows you to shoot Full HD video;
  3. A big plus is the large rotating screen, as well as the built-in pop-up flash;
  4. The battery lasts quite a long time and allows you to take about 1000 photos at a time;
  5. The body is made of plastic (like most Canon brand models);
  6. For its price, the camera takes pretty high-quality pictures and videos.

Nikon D7000

  1. The matrix resolution is 16.2 pixels, ISO is exactly the same as that of the competitor;
  2. It is possible to shoot HD video;
  3. The body is made of magnesium alloy;
  4. Battery characteristics are the same as those of Canon - allows you to take about 1000 pictures;
  5. Large convenient display (3 inches);
  6. Very good autofocus system.

For comparison: Nikon has a slightly larger matrix, but Canon matrix higher resolution. The Nikon D700 has 39 focus points, the Canon 60D has 9. The latter camera is positioned as suitable for absolutely all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat), and the instructions also indicate that the camera is waterproof.

The maximum shooting time for one video for Canon is half an hour, for Nikon it is 20 minutes. When shooting video, the frame rate is also higher with Canon.

Canon is a little larger in size, but the Nikon camera is heavier.

If the previous two cameras are amateur class, then the following cameras represent the elite and pride of the two companies.

So, the main advantages of the Nikon D800:

  1. better noise reduction;
  2. more pixels;
  3. better autofocus performance (especially with a closed aperture), as well as the presence of autofocus when shooting video;
  4. best flash sync performance
  5. the presence of a built-in flash, which means there is the possibility of internal control of an external flash;
  6. Compatible with lenses across the entire Nikon line.
  1. better screen resolution;
  2. ISO reaches the limit of 25,600 (Nikon has three times less);
  3. more autofocus points;
  4. battery lasts longer;
  5. The camera is quite light;
  6. more video customization options.

Every DSLR Canon or Nikon has both its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, even the technical characteristics of each camera should suit you individually, based on your needs and certain wishes.

The facts say that Canon is better for shooting video, while Nikon allows you to focus without much effort.

The modern world has given amateur and professional photographers a whole Klondike of different cameras, which has intensified the “war” between Canon and Nikon. To finally answer this question of a universal scale, you can go to the LiveJournal blog of Anton Martynov (an honored master of his craft), where his answer is substantiated by graphs and calculations:

What should a beginner amateur photographer choose? Which brand should you prefer? Answering these questions is not so simple. People often like to compare several models from Nikon and Canon in the same price segment. Then a third player - a Sony enthusiast - can join this pair with his own view of the camera market. However, having limited their choice to a few models, novice amateur photographers look at this problem rather narrowly and do not take into account many more important factors. We will talk about them in our article.

You shouldn’t compare camera A with camera B, pitting them head-to-head.

When you compare one camera to another, one model may have a clear advantage. This is no accident: manufacturers have never produced two absolutely different models, giving them certain advantages over competitors. For example, the Nikon 5300 has a very advanced autofocus system - competitors only have this in the semi-professional segment.

And Sony cameras have a much better video mode and more various kinds of electronic features, filters, and additional functions.

All these advantages in numbers are rarely fully realized by amateurs, but can cause you to jump to a hasty conclusion and lead to a rash purchase. Before you give preference to one or another parameter, think about how important it will be for you when shooting. Remember that most of the time you will be “just shooting” without using fancy AF tracking algorithms or the many built-in filters.

About the complex Nikon menu and the small fleet of Sony optics

After comparing specific models and identifying all possible disadvantages and advantages, buyers like to appeal to opinions read on forums or heard from more experienced friends: about the number of optics in the system, about the features of camera control... There can be a lot of options! But controlling any camera is a matter of habit. In principle, this does not apply to novice photographers, since habit is acquired. It takes years to develop. So the convenience or inconvenience of the interface of a particular model should never be judged based on the opinion of another person. A novice photographer easily adapts to the control features of almost any camera.

With optics it's a little more complicated. When choosing a system, we choose lenses. Sony inherits a large legacy from Konica-Minolta, and Canon has a huge stock of old optics available on the secondary market. It is worth considering here that the matrices of digital cameras are constantly being improved, and a lens that was sharp on a six-megapixel matrix will not demonstrate all the capabilities of a sensor with a resolution of 18 megapixels or more.

Lenses, like cameras, keep up with the times. Any brand from the big three has a full line of optics for every taste and budget. Moreover, the question of whether a manufacturer has a large or small fleet of optics is very ambiguous. It makes sense to consider only lens models recent years releases that meet high modern image quality requirements. And here all manufacturers will have approximately the same set.

Thus, as in any situation, you need to have your own head on your shoulders and not take the word of people who are only slightly more experienced in the matter of choosing cameras. Many problems turn out to be far-fetched and made up out of thin air.

Service availability

Equipment is not insured against breakdowns. Minor drops, dust, moisture, extreme temperatures - all this can cause the camera or its components to fail. In such cases, professionals have a second camera, a spare one, but for an amateur this is a luxury. Many amateur photographers have passed through service centers. It is worth finding out in advance about the availability of a service in your region or city, as well as the quality of the work they carry out. There is no point in additional megapixels or autofocus points if you cannot repair the camera if it breaks, or you can, but with great effort. However, even if there is no service in your city, there is always the possibility of sending the camera to another city. In any case, you will not be left without qualified help, it just may take more time.

Focus on friends

DSLR and now mirrorless cameras are ubiquitous. It is possible that you have a more experienced friend or acquaintance who has made his choice and has already acquired his own fleet of optics. In this case, you make your task much easier because you have the opportunity to try this or that camera or lens. Even if you don’t have them yet, you can easily find like-minded people via the Internet. Large communities of fans of this or that brand have long been formed online, and their participants hold regular live meetings. You can also try joining a local photography club by finding it through a local city forum. Oddly enough, choosing a camera “like your friends” turns out to be justified here: they will always help you with advice and let you try an interesting lens for a day or two.

Read tests and reviews

There are many tests and reviews of technology available online today. For example, in our tests we try to pay maximum attention not to instrumental comparisons, but to testing cameras in real conditions. Because we sincerely believe that the main thing is how the camera takes pictures in real life, and not at all the difference in noise or other parameters measured as a percentage.

Listen to your own taste

Even if you are armed with all our advice and have already made a choice, there is always a chance that something will go wrong. The difference between systems lies not so much in the objective field as in the subjective field. There is no one undisputed leader. Photography is subjective, and you should listen to the whispers of the heart. Whether Canon, Nikon, or Sony, they all have their own philosophy, their own perception of color and vision of this world. Look at the photos and ask yourself if you like them. This, in our opinion, is the most important. You have to like the photos. Your camera should produce “your” color in the pictures, and your optics should paint “your” picture.

How to choose a camera for a novice photographer: Canon or Nikon, professional, SLR, digital? Camera, lens and other gadgets - for better photos.

How to learn to take photographs? First of all, purchase " tutorial" — digital SLR camera. How to choose a "DSLR" for a novice photographer? How much can such a camera cost and what characteristics should it have? Advice from a professional photographer.

It is very difficult to buy something that you are not very good at. If you don’t have anyone to ask for advice, you don’t trust sellers, and reviews frighten you with an abundance of incomprehensible terms, then this page is for you! But even if you already have a camera, here I will tell you what everyone who is going to shoot with a DSLR should know, and not in automatic mode, when the camera itself adjusts the parameters for shooting. Often, it does this not entirely successfully: with such settings, you risk getting “flat” photographs devoid of artistic value. We strive for more, don't we?

Canon and Nikon against each other and other cameras

If you haven't bought a DSLR yet, but are planning to do so, then get ready to take part in the battles of the eternal photographic war between the two most famous brands of professional photographic equipment - Canon and Nikon. Fortunately, no photographers were physically harmed in this war, but the fighting continues. Any owner of a Canon or Nikon camera is sure that his camera is the best.

When photographers who are unfamiliar with each other often look at the camera first and only then look at their colleague’s face.

Of course, there are also supporters of less popular brands, such as Sony or Panasonic Lumix. But there are significantly fewer of them, since SLR cameras are far from the only and, of course, not the primary line of production of these companies. Buying a camera from a “non-core” company is the same as buying shoes under the brand of a company specializing in clothing production.

Priority in any business is always given to the main product or service. For a clothing company, shoes are most likely just a nice addition, which is not always of the proper quality, but is quite affordable. In the case of cameras, the matter is further complicated by the fact that for relatively unpopular cameras there is much less accompanying equipment on sale than for cameras with a big name. This somewhat reduces your ability to develop your photography skills. And in general, it’s nice to see many different gadgets in stores that are suitable for your camera.

So if you haven’t bought a camera yet, but are just trying it on, it’s better to choose a well-known brand. But if you're already the proud owner of a camera—and it's not Nikon or Canon—don't worry. I will teach you how to make the most of its capabilities, as well as minimize associated costs (we will talk more about the secrets and tricks of saving money in photography).

In any case, at the stage of choosing a camera, try not to read online forums of “canonists”, “nikonists” and other “ists” and do not believe those who foam at the mouth to prove the absolute advantages of their favorite brand. The main thing is that the camera is easy to use, fits in your hand and meets your own requirements.

The photographer had dinner with a very nice married couple. Those, wanting to compliment, said:
— Your photographs are very beautiful. You probably have a very good camera.
The photographer just smiled sweetly in response. After dinner, he approached the hostess and praised her:
— Lunch was very tasty. You probably have very good pots.

How much does a camera cost?

Obviously, the price of a camera depends on its functionality. There is no point in choosing the most expensive camera for everyday use. The same can be said about the cheapest models designed for children and beginners. Although these cameras bear the proud name of “DSLR”, the results of their work cannot always be distinguished from photographs taken by an advanced “point-and-shoot camera”. On the other hand, some beginners naively believe that if you buy very expensive equipment, you don’t have to study - the camera itself will set the necessary settings and take the best pictures in the world. However, everything is exactly the opposite: more complex technology requires much more serious training from the user.

Before you decide to purchase a particular camera, calculate your budget for the purchase of a complete set of equipment and accessories: the camera itself, one or two lenses, a camera bag, a protective filter, a flash card and, possibly, an external flash (we will detail all this in detail). We'll discuss it a little later). The cost of a complete set starts from about 25 thousand rubles and can grow... almost indefinitely. The most reasonable price for the kit is in the range from 40 to 80 thousand rubles.

But even if you're only planning to photograph yourself and friends, don't be alarmed if you have (or are about to have) a camera that's slightly beyond your current needs. A camera “to grow a little” will come in handy if in the future you have a desire to become a master of professional photography. In this case, you will be able to use advanced features that may seem unnecessary at first.

Choosing a camera: 8 steps

I will give a list of the most important characteristics that play a decisive role when choosing a camera. There are only eight of them, although many photographers can argue with me by reducing or, conversely, adding new items. However, with this list you can safely go to the store and present it to the seller. Or pass it on to friends who are planning to buy a camera.

  1. Price. Focus on the budget that you can allocate. In any case, it is better to have a low-functional SLR camera than none.
  2. Matrix size. The sensor is the chip in a digital SLR camera. It consists of many photosensitive elements that react to light that passes through the lens. If you are not limited on funds, you can choose a professional camera with a full-frame (full-size) sensor, but I recommend a more budget semi-professional camera with a so-called partial-frame, or “cropped” sensor.
  3. Matrix resolution. Don't go for a lot of megapixels. They will only be useful to you if your photographs are published in the press or for printing them in a very large format. Ten megapixels will be quite enough (on almost all modern cameras this number is higher).
  4. Matrix sensitivity (ISO values). If you plan to frequently take photos in low light (such as at dusk), choose a camera with the highest possible ISO settings. Depending on the specific model of the device, sensitivity can vary in the range from 50 to 25,600 units. High sensitivity values allow you to take a clear picture at dusk or even at night, but in this case small image defects are inevitable.
  5. Manual control. It is recommended to purchase a camera in which you can manually adjust all settings (aperture, shutter speed, white balance, sensor sensitivity) - this opens up unlimited shooting possibilities.
  6. Possibility of video shooting. A camera is not a video camera. If you want to shoot with it good video, you will have to first learn this and also purchase the necessary equipment. Even for home video shooting, it is better to use special equipment. In the pursuit of multifunctionality, you risk forgetting about your main goal - to take good photographs.
  7. Size and weight. The larger and heavier the camera, the better it is. But for everyday purposes, a large and heavy camera is not very convenient for obvious reasons. So ideal solution I will be purchasing a semi-professional camera from the middle weight category.
  8. Convenience. Visit a photographic equipment salon and see which of the selected models “fits your hand.” This feeling cannot be confused with anything: convenient buttons, pleasant shutter sound, the first shot taken right in the store...

Believe me, in a couple of years you will, like many photographers, advise your friends and family to buy exactly the camera that you chose - after all, it will be the best camera in the world!

The word pixel comes from two English words- picture (image) and element (element). In the Russian language they tried to introduce a similar abbreviation “eliz”, but it did not take root.
Many people think of a pixel as a square, but in reality this element can be rectangular, round or even octagonal. Each pixel contains only one color.

Choosing accessories, or How to allocate a budget

The biggest mistake of those who buy a camera for the first time is trying to choose the most expensive “body” (sellers call it “body”), that is, the camera body itself - without a lens and additional devices. With the remaining money, you usually buy an inexpensive lens for your first experiments. This is not the right decision! If you want to allocate your budget correctly, then confidently take a cheaper “carcass” and buy a good lens for it.

In general, all mirror “carcasses” can be divided into four types.

Professional ones are very expensive(from 200 thousand rubles). This is a technique for experienced professionals who make their living exclusively from high-end filming. This is a waste of money for you.

Professional expensive(from 80 thousand rubles). These are cameras with a full-frame matrix - they allow you to take excellent pictures, but in the hands of a novice amateur they lose their charm.

Semi-professional(from 40 thousand rubles). This camera is ideal for a beginner. At a relatively low price, it motivates photo achievements. By choosing this type, you are simply dooming yourself to great photos.

Amateur(from 15 thousand rubles). These are the simplest, household SLR cameras. It’s worth starting with this type of “carcass” only if your budget is very limited. In combination with good optics, such a camera allows you to get good results.

The most unpleasant feature of all “bodies”, lenses, flashes and other accessories from different companies is different standards, that is, the impossibility of using them in combination with equipment from competing photo brands. Cannot be attached Nikon lens to a Canon body, and vice versa. It’s a shame when your friends have, for example, a good lens or flash, but you cannot use them because you have a camera from another company.

When buying a “carcass”, be prepared to gradually become overgrown with additional gadgets from this particular company. If the current “DSLR” no longer meets your photographic needs, you will have to buy a new “carcass” of the same initially chosen brand. That is, the optics (lenses) will remain for a long time in any case, and even a very expensive “carcass” will sometimes have to be “updated” in the event of a breakdown or because in a few years it will become obsolete.

I'm new to photography, but for me, Canon is ideal. I recently bought a semi-professional camera on Avito for 28t. completely new and exactly what I wanted. Along the way, the same new lenses were found. There is no limit to happiness.

Link does not work. From general considerations: Film DSLRs give good quality. It’s more interesting if you can change the optics on the camera.
The downside for a beginner is that he will only find out what happened after development :)
So film ones are usually used by those with a higher level.

It depends on what you shoot. I mostly photograph “our loved ones” against the background..... An iPhone is quite suitable for this, especially since it fits better into a handbag and doesn’t stick out like a small camera. Well, in general, you can’t always carry a camera with you, but what if you accidentally stumbled upon something interesting?
When traveling, of course, I take a camera with me, but only a point-and-shoot camera; I’m too lazy to wander around the sights with a DSLR.
But for me, quality matters little (maybe because my eyesight is poor ;-)), I just want to see our smiling faces in the photo.

My daughter is practically a professional photographer. She has very good photographic equipment, but she also takes pictures with her phone. Moreover, she takes excellent photographs of both. Just for different purposes. And some people walk around with mirrors, with a smart face they talk about white balance, and when you look at the pictures, you want to cry. No DSLR will help if your hands are not growing from the right place.
I have no talent, so I don’t use a DSLR; my iPhone is more than enough.

No, it's not hard.
I've never been in parental home I don't use the elevator. And most of the residents there don’t use the elevator; I always meet them walking up the stairs - the elevator is between floors and far from the entrance, they were installed after major renovations. The house has 5 floors, ceilings are about 3 and a half meters on average.
When buying an apartment, I was not interested in the presence of an elevator if the floor was no higher than 4.

Our elevator was turned off for a month - it went up just fine, though only on the third one. The parents didn't complain either.

Unfortunately, new DSLRs are now really noticeably more expensive than sophisticated point-and-shoot cameras. Indeed, to learn photography, it is much preferable to a DSLR. and then the option is to look for used old models, etc.

Do you want Zenit film in working condition? There even seems to be a portrait for it. If necessary, write in a personal message. At one time I left the photography circle because... Everyone around had Zeniths and FEDs, I was the only one left with Smena.

When choosing a DSLR camera, I came across an interesting point - portrait photographs, made by the Olympus E-410 seem more natural than those produced by the Canon eos 400d. Are there really any differences between them in this regard?

I wrote my opinion about Olya and Kenon below, but about online stores:
I buy all the time. both in the fotoru and at the rest, by the way, and from the gray batch at the rest, everything was good and when a problem arose under their warranty, they repaired it without questions, and the part was brought from Japan. so my experience is positive
but first you can go to the store, twirl different cameras in your hands and decide what is closer to you
As for the tests, both in the store and in the online store, if something suddenly goes wrong, you can return it, both Fotoru and Ostava have real stores. When leaving, I simply asked the manager by phone to check the camera for dead pixels before transferring it to the courier service, this did not cause any problems, the managers there are very nice and then I was convinced upon receipt that everything was ok
and in any case, if you ask such questions, people understand that you can’t get along and why waste both your and the buyer’s time on exchanging goods :)))
By the way, in a regular store there was a case where they tried to push in a defective camera with the first one, Ilona seems to have had it. and when they started testing, they brought a normal one :)
so good luck :)

“seems more natural” is your subjective assessment. what do you want to hear about the differences in this regard? that someone might think differently? :)) there is no such criterion for a camera as “naturalness of a portrait” :) it depends on the quality of the optics, focal length, shooting parameters, straightness of hands, moon phase and hundreds of other parameters :)
You can buy anywhere, but with certain restrictions. You will have to check it in any store. and before purchasing, it’s worth going through a short educational program “checking a DSLR camera upon purchase” so that it won’t be excruciatingly painful later.

Photo and video shooting: camera, photographic equipment, lighting, studio, photography, photo album. If you think you don't need the bells and whistles of older camera models, then it's quite possible that you'll get along just fine with this one...

Discussion

There is no need to base your choice on forums. For many years I have been shooting with a lens about which they write such nasty things on the forums that there can only be one conclusion - throw it away. And I feel good with him :))
I don't think you'll feel significant differences these two lenses. If you don't think you need the bells and whistles of older camera models, then it's quite possible that you'll get along just fine with this lens. But if you plan to buy a more advanced camera in the future, it will be nice if by that time you also have glass corresponding to it.
IMHO :)

By the way, I won’t dissuade you, but I’ll tell you.
At one time I also had a culpix + a flash + a bunch of other little things for this culpix. And I, too, naturally one day switched to a digital mirror.
but I think I did the right thing, I left Nikon in favor of Canon.
IMHO, Nikon as a company is more indigestible and ossified than Canon.
starting with the same flash, which, as I already wrote, you won’t use on the D70.
The same applies to virtually all accessories. They are mostly very immobile and fit a limited number of models. (which personally infuriates me).
Well, plus to this, Nikons are actually noisier than Canons.
again, Canons have a larger selection - both bodysuits and lenses (it seems to me, maybe I’m wrong).
In general, having played enough with culpix, I switched to Canono and don’t regret it at all. my work colleague has a d70 with several good lenses, I very often have the opportunity to compare the results.

although here we have Dasha Kid, she takes simply magnificent photographs on a Nikon D70 that I had never even dreamed of.

Photo and video. Recommend an inexpensive DSLR. You need a SLR camera, high quality, but inexpensive. Digital - SLR - why and why? Or am I misunderstanding something, and for a digital camera the term “DSLR” defines something else?

Discussion

1. Full time job matrix to capture information for display increases the level of thermal noise, the matrix heats up, in other words... Before directly capturing the frame, you need to perform the so-called washing process - cleaning the matrix to minimize this noise. this takes time (about 0.2-0.4s) - this is the main reason for the lag of the digital soap. In a digital mirror, the matrix is turned off during sighting (covered by the mirror), so there is no need to wash it off. There were cameras with a translucent Olympus E10 mirror, it seems, if I’m not mistaken... they allowed the matrix to work during sighting. The latest modification 20D has the ability to sight on the monitor with the mirror raised - this is used when shooting in spectrums invisible to the eye.
2. DSLRs have a matrix that is many times larger. reduces noise, increases DD and the ability to work with depth of field.
3. The matrix-processor-LCD monitor (viewfinder) channel has a very noticeable inertia - it is impossible to shoot dynamic scenes. the mirror is limited only by the speed of light :)) the resolution in an LCD monitor is limited by the number of pixels (usually about 123,000 per 1.6-1.8 inches), in a mirror - almost only by the sensitivity and resolution of the eye - which is more, I think it's clear :)
4. The DSLR has separate focusing sensors - much faster due to the use of the phase difference method instead of contrast detection in a digital camera. The DSLR always knows where to turn the focus - forward or backward for accurate focusing. the compact is forced to “run through” all possible focus positions to find the most contrasting place, sometimes several times.

yes, you misunderstand. in digital SLRs you look at the image in the same way through the viewfinder, and all functions work the same as with a regular one (conditionally). the monitor shows the picture only AFTER it has been exposed, and not BEFORE. which is still an additional plus, because... On the monitor you can view even conventionally captured frames, their histograms, data, etc.

Good afternoon, readers! I’m in touch with you, Timur Mustaev. Have you already chosen a camera for yourself or are you just planning to? Will it be a Canon, Nikon, or maybe Sony model? I propose to start by analyzing the characteristics of leading companies. In the article, I will share my experience and explain in detail how to simply decide on the camera that is right for you.

Nikon and Canon cameras

When answering the question of which SLR camera is better than canon or nikon, you should immediately warn that they do not have many differences. And now you can see this for yourself. So, what can the Nikon line of equipment offer us?

Among Nikon digital SLR cameras there are options:

  1. Amateur budget camera;
  2. Amateur advanced camera;
  3. Professional.

How to understand that this is an amateur camera:

  • Small in size.
  • Bright body colors are common, not just black.
  • The name contains two or four numbers, also the letter D (for example, D90, D5200). Marked as one of the best D7000 released recently.
  • The matrix is 23.5 by 15.6, that is, smaller than a full-frame one (24 by 36).
  • The service life of the camera, in particular its shutter, is 100,000 operations. Approximately two years warranty.
  • Narrow and fairly simple menu.
  • Narrow aperture range.

What is the situation with professional models:

  • Externally large and heavy.
  • Mostly completely black.
  • The name contains one or three numbers, the letter D (for example, D7, D700).
  • According to users, the D200 is an exception because, despite its professional characteristics, the camera is not full-frame.
  • Matrix 24 by 36.
  • The service life of the camera is 150,000-200,000 operations.
  • Wide menu.
  • Good aperture.
  • There is no built-in flash. It is assumed that the photographer purchases an external flash, since the built-in one is not capable of producing a high-quality picture.

Canon did the same - it released not only entry-level and professional cameras, but also semi-professional cameras - for advanced amateurs, as they position them.

The semi-professional ones retain some of the fine settings, but in other respects they are the same as the entry-level ones. Let's take a closer look at the last category of devices, but we won't repeat ourselves and will only touch on those indicators that distinguish Nikon and Canon.

  • The name contains three or four numbers, the letter D may be absent (for example, 600D, 1000D).
  • Matrix 22.2 by 14.7. Please note that the sensor here is slightly smaller than the Nikon.

What's special about professional equipment from Kenon? In general, all the same indicators. The only thing is that the name contains one number (5D). It is also believed that there is a larger selection of lenses for Canon cameras. Although in Lately Nikon optics is also actively releasing new models.

From the photographer's personal experience

Nikon and Canon technology is very common and provides ample opportunities for both beginning photographers and specialists. Still, there are some features in it that manufacturers do not indicate in the instructions, but which affect customer preferences.

In particular, we can talk about the features of color rendering in these models. Only in practice can you notice that Nikon adds yellowness to the image, while Canon overdoes it with red tints. This is not always visible in photographs, but as soon as these colors dominate the frame, the effect will not be long in coming. This fact is not critical, but it must be taken into account both when setting the white balance and during post-processing.

Also important is the already mentioned difference in the matrix sizes of amateur cameras from companies. The difference, of course, is a few fractions of millimeters, but this significantly affects the quality of the picture. Many have noted that because of this, the detail and overall realism of pictures on Nikon are better than Canon, and also superior to video in Nikon cameras.

How to choose a camera?

We are in general outline We disassembled several models of cameras. I think it has become clear to you that there are no global differences in them, so this is a matter of taste. The most important thing when choosing equipment is to know why you need it and, accordingly, what parameters you should pay attention to.

I advise you to first study the camera market, look at specific options or even make a list of requirements, and then go to the store, where you will hold the camera in your hand and take a few shots. In general, be prepared from the beginning, which will make the decision-making process easier.

So, what should you look for with such a huge range of cameras? First of all, decide whether a professional or amateur camera is needed. This important point. In these two options, completely different features. Assess your budget and how much you plan to make photography your profession.

In any case, even if you start with a basic SLR or semi-professional camera, in the future you will want something more, but for commercial orders you simply need excellent image quality and here professional equipment is simply irreplaceable. Let us list the distinctive features of high-class equipment:

  1. Mirror viewfinder. Unlike telescopic eyepieces, an eyepiece with a mirror has a complex design with small parts, which, moreover, are connected to other important components of the camera. Naturally, such parts are very sensitive to mechanical stress, they can break if hit or dropped, and their repair will be expensive. The parts in the mirror visor are quite mobile, so without additional stabilization they cause serious vibrations.
  2. A more powerful battery is necessary for good operation of such equipment. In amateur cameras, the charger can run out quickly, sometimes unexpectedly, but at the same time it charges quickly - its only advantage. You'll probably need one or a couple of spare batteries just in case.
  3. High quality of all optics, in particular the set of lenses. Matrixes also matter a lot: their physical dimensions and the number of megapixels. But don’t just chase this indicator; there must also be a matrix of the appropriate external size. Of course, priority is given to full-frame cameras, that is, with a standard frame of 24 by 36 mm - an analogue of 35 mm film, but these are only from the professional category.
  4. High price, starting from hundreds of thousands. If a camera, even a SLR, costs around 50 thousand rubles, it will be quite good, but still only semi-professional.
  5. Differences in the external design and the menu itself, respectively, differences in the settings, their complexity and subtlety. Professional models have wider possibilities, more attention dedicated to manual mode.
  6. Weight. Amateur ones are inferior in quality to professional ones, but they weigh less and are smaller in size. And they are especially convenient for walking and traveling.
  7. Good aperture. In cameras with a full-frame matrix, when using high photosensitivity values, the appearance of noise in the photograph is significantly less than with matrices with a crop factor.

It is simply impossible to say specifically that Nikon cameras are better than Canon, or vice versa. Each has its own pros and cons. I used both the first company and the second, and I was impressed by both manufacturers. I was pleased.

Comparing these manufacturers is similar to comparing car manufacturers, Mercedes and BMW. Everyone has their own fans. And each car is good in its own way. What is closer to you, Mercedes and BMW?

In this article we will compare three very popular APS-C DSLR cameras - Nikon D7100, D5200 and Canon EOS 700D. If you are planning to upgrade your photographic equipment in the near future and do not know which of these models to choose, then this article is what you need. We will look at the strengths and weak sides each model, after which it will be much easier to make a choice.

The Nikon D7100 is the most interesting camera of the three, and at the same time the most expensive. The camera costs about $1200 (body only). Canon 700D can be purchased for $750. The Nikon D5200 is an entry-level model that costs $700.

When buying new photographic equipment, there is always a desire to buy something good right away. It's easy to get carried away and buy a more advanced camera, in this case, the D7100. The difference between the D7100 and other models is very significant, approximately $500. For this amount you can buy a very good lens that will replace the Kit lens or buy a second lens for creative shooting. At the same time, there are also those photographers who, by paying extra money, strive to get more opportunities. Everything is very individual!

If you already have Canon or Nikon optics, you should make your choice more carefully. For example, if you already have a Nikon lens, think twice before switching to Canon, as your old optics will not fit on your new camera. As a result, you will have to sell old lenses, and in any case, lose money. If you decide to do this, make sure that the Canon EOS 700D has features that the D5200 or D7100 does not. Also, if you already have lenses and plan to take photography more seriously, you'll be tempted to buy the D7100.

In this comparison, we will make every effort to provide you with all the necessary information to help you make the right decision.

We'll start, as always, with a brief overview of each camera so that you have a better idea of each candidate. We'll then compare the cameras' technical and functional features in a table so you can better appreciate the differences between the D7100, D5200 and 700D.

Nikon D7100

The camera was announced on February 21, 2013. Despite such a short time on sale, it has already won a DPReview gold award. The DSLR provides simple operation and a wide range of customization features that will allow photographers to maximize their potential and create creative photography. The most notable feature of the D7100 is the lack of an optical low-pass filter. This results in increased image resolution, better frame clarity and the risk of moiré effect.

The Nikon D7100 is weather sealed and waterproof. The camera is made of magnesium alloy, therefore it is very durable, relatively light in weight and provides a high degree of protection from moisture and dust. The camera inherits the high-performance 51-point autofocus system from the Nikon D300 line of cameras, and also uses algorithms developed for the D4. All this makes the D7100 focus almost instantly and very accurately. The best performance of the camera will be provided by combination with a powerful fast lens.

Nikon D7100 is a DX format camera. The DSLR is equipped with a 24.1-megapixel DX matrix. The D7100 is capable of operating in crop 1.3x mode, which provides better focus and frame coverage. It is not recommended to use this mode for video recording, as it results in oversampling of the video.

The camera is capable of shooting Full HD video at 60i, 30p or 24p. The most enticing feature for videographers will be the ability to output uncompressed video to an external recording device. This will help professional video enthusiasts gain more control over their workflow during post-production. You can also enjoy high-quality stereo sound thanks to the standard 3.5mm jack. In addition, the camera has a headphone jack.

This is only part of what the D7100 is capable of. Nikon has put a lot of effort into creating an amazing camera for professionals and amateurs alike.

Nikon D5200

The camera was announced on November 6, 2013. Nikon D5200 is an updated version of the D5100. The camera is designed for beginner and amateur photographers. The camera was created to satisfy the needs of consumers who care about photo and video performance. The Nikon D5200 has some additional features over the D3200 and D3100. As a result of this, we can safely call the Nikon D5200 a worthy replacement for the entry-level Nikon D3200 and D3100 DSLRs.

The D5200 is equipped with the latest 24.1 megapixel DX-format CMOS architecture sensor. This is a very high resolution for an APS-C sensor today, and is most often found in full-frame cameras. The camera is equipped with a 39-point Multi-CAM 4800DX focusing system, as well as a 2016 pixel RGB sensor. This combination provides very accurate and fast object tracking.

The D5200 is capable of recording Full HD video with stereo sound, and is also equipped with a tilting display with a resolution of 921 thousand dots. The camera is designed for beginners and therefore uses features that will appeal to this audience.

The camera has interesting features that will be useful for beginners. These features include special effects for photo and video shooting and image editing. They will help you get the most out of your images without using a photo editing program. The Nikon D5200 has a power-efficient design and can shoot up to 500 shots (CIPA) on a single battery charge.

Canon EOS 700D

The camera was announced on March 21, 2013. The Canon EOS 700D has a stunning design, loads of features and great technical capabilities. Unfortunately, the new model is not very different from its predecessor, the EOS 650D, but it still has interesting innovations. The EOS 700D features an updated Live View mode, a higher digital zoom factor (10 instead of 3), a top dial that rotates 360 degrees and has 8 options instead of 10. The new model comes with an improved 18-55mm STM lens.

As for prices, the latest data shows the 650D costs $800 and the 700D costs $750. On Amazon, the 650D costs about $735, and its updated version costs $750. Judging by the prices and characteristics of the cameras, it cannot be said that the EOS 700D is capable of replacing the previous model. The camera is rather a good alternative to the EOS 650D. Either way, the Canon EOS 700D is a great entry-level camera designed for beginner enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts.

The 700D features an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Canon's latest DIGIC 5 image processor. The EOS 700D also features an updated hybrid focusing system.

On the back of the camera is a 3-inch Clear View II vari-angle touchscreen display. Thanks to the combination of stunning hybrid focusing, a tilt-and-tilt display and an advanced STM lens, the EOS 700D is capable of producing stunning photos as well as videos.

The 700D features a 9-point focusing system, an advanced metering system, a high continuous shooting speed of 5 frames per second, original modes including Basic+ mode, Intelligent Auto mode and Full HD 1080p video shooting. It has a built-in Speedlite transmitter that provides external flash control.

According to those who have already used the camera, the 700D is capable of producing stunning photos. The image is clear, with excellent detail and color reproduction. Users appreciate the high continuous shooting speed and noise reduction capabilities, which allow you to get high-quality images even in low light conditions at high ISO values.

So, although the 700D is similar in many ways to its predecessor, this camera will be a boon for videographers and will not disappoint amateur photographers.

Comparison of characteristics of Canon EOS 700D, Nikon D7100 and D5200

On at this stage you have already received enough information about each camera. It’s difficult now to make a choice and give preference to one of them. In this section, we will compare the Canon EOS 700D, Nikon D7100 and D5200, which will give a deeper understanding of the differences between the three DSLRs.

When creating the D7100 focusing system, the same detection algorithms were used as in the D4. The D7100 has the best focusing module in this group, offering 51 focusing points, of which 15 are cross-type, and the camera also has a very wide operating range. Focusing on the D5200 is just as fast and accurate. The 700D has less impressive specs and only 9 AF points, all of which are cross-type. The D7100's focusing will perform better in difficult situations - in low light conditions and when shooting fast-moving subjects. The EOS 700D is the only camera in the group with which you can use both hybrid autofocus and contrast autofocus. This will be especially useful for videographers.

Judging by the comparison results, it is simply impossible not to fall in love with the Nikon D7100. It is made of magnesium alloy, has a weather seal and better ergonomics, equipped with a 51-point focusing system with the same algorithms as the D4. When creating this model, Nikon's advanced exposure metering technologies were used; the camera has a large display with a resolution of 1228 thousand dots, a pentaprism viewfinder, a shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, a burst speed of 6 frames per second and excellent battery life. The D7100 is truly impressive, and despite high price The models here have something to pay for. Of course, if some of the above features are not of interest to you, then pay attention to the 700D or D5200, which will not only allow you to save money, but also will not disappoint with the quality of the photographs you create.

Of course, all the extra features like a multi-point focusing system, 6fps continuous shooting, weather sealing and rugged construction cost the extra money. Therefore, think carefully about which of the above you need. You may decide to abandon the idea of purchasing such expensive photographic equipment altogether.

The absence of an optical low-pass filter does not significantly improve image quality. In fact, there is a lot of information on the Internet that the difference is barely noticeable. Check out some example images and see for yourself! Yes, it is noticeable that the pictures are sharper, especially in RAW format and at 100% zoom, but the difference is small.

The Canon EOS 700D has amazing technical characteristics. The camera is equipped with good hybrid focusing, a tilt-and-rotate touch screen and a microphone. All this contributes to the fact that with the help of this camera you can create beautiful videos. It's no wonder that cameras like the EOS 600D, 650D and 700D are among the most preferred by amateur videographers.

The differences between the 700D and the D5200 aren't huge, but the D5200 lacks a touchscreen display, and it also has a smaller viewfinder, but a better focusing system and a more advanced metering sensor. Other advantages of the D5200 include the ability to record uncompressed 60i video, an HDMI connector, a more powerful battery and smaller dimensions than the 700D.

ISO sensitivity performance

Now that we know the differences between the three cameras, it's time to analyze the camera's performance and see which model performs better at high ISOs. High ISO performance is very important to many photographers because it helps with long shutter speeds and low light shooting. Not everyone can afford a fast lens, and unless your lens has a large aperture, you can increase your ISO and hope for good results.

Sample images from each camera were analyzed.

ISO 100/200 - Photos are clean and sharp. Exclusively high quality images from all cameras. The D7100 and D5200 have a resolution advantage, so these images appear sharper.
ISO 400 - there is a little noise in photos from Nikon cameras, the 700D photos are very sharp, but this difference is only visible when viewed at 100% zoom and in dark areas. Images from the D7100 and D5200 look similar.
ISO 800 - Noise noticeable in dark areas in photos taken with the D7100 and D5200. Compared to its competitors, the 700D's results are more impressive. All images retain good detail.
ISO 1600 - Noise becomes increasingly noticeable and is not very visible in midtones and highlights. Small details begin to get lost in the pictures. The D7100's photos are sharper and higher quality than the D5200's. The advantage of the 700D becomes more obvious.
ISO 3200/6400 - very noisy images on all cameras. With the 700D the loss of detail is more noticeable.

It is difficult to come to a clear conclusion and decide who the winner is. The D7100 and D5200 have high ISO performance. The 700D's results are impressive, with less noise in these images. On the other hand, the lack of a low-pass filter on the Nikon D7100 helped in maintaining detail. Canon has a slight edge in terms of ISO performance, but the difference isn't huge. All cameras handle shooting in low-light conditions quite well.

Let's look at some sample videos before moving on to the final section.

Conclusion

Today we've taken an in-depth look at the capabilities of three great DSLR cameras. The Nikon D7100 is definitely worth considering for enthusiasts who would like to take advantage of all the extra features. The main advantages of the model include a magnesium alloy body, a weather seal, improved ergonomics (especially when using large and heavy lenses), a shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, an improved focusing system, an improved exposure metering system, continuous shooting at 6 frames per second, large pentaprism viewfinder and much more.

As you can see, the list of features is quite long, and the D7100 the best option for amateur photographers, and the model can also serve as an excellent additional camera for professional photographers. Don't forget that the D7100 costs significantly more than the other two cameras. If the additional features of this model do not interest you, then feel free to choose between the D5200 and EOS D700. It may be more profitable for you to pay the difference in price to purchase a good lens.

The Canon EOS D700 and D5200 are excellent cameras. The 700D performs better at high ISOs than the D5200, but some artists may appreciate the additional resolution benefits of the D5200. Both of these cameras are better suited for beginner photographers. Many may be attracted by the presence of a touch display on the D700. The D5200 has its advantages, the main one being the presence of a 39-point focusing system.

If you can't afford the D7100, or you're just taking your first steps into the world of DSLR photography, opt for the EOS D700 or D5200. It's worth noting that the D5200 does not have a built-in AF motor. This means that autofocus will not work when paired with older lenses. When purchasing a lens for this camera, make sure that autofocus will be available.
