"During the full phase, the Moon will completely enter the Earth's shadow and acquire a purple-red hue," astronomers of the Moscow Planetarium note.

The Moon is expected to pass through the center of the Earth's shadow. This will be the first central lunar eclipse since June 15, 2011. It occurs near the apogee, when the Moon's disk is minimal, so the eclipse will be the longest in the 21st century.
