Gouache painting lessons for beginners (2 videos)More ideas for drawings (27 photos)You can paint anything with watercolors - from a realistic portrait to fictional alien worlds. To many, watercolor is a complex artistic tool. But all you really need to learn how to paint with watercolor is just to get started. We've compiled 11 tips for you to take you 11 steps closer to mastering the art of watercolor painting. 1. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty! If you've never painted before, it's time to get down to business. Open the album, create interesting textures and stains with watercolors so as not to fade in front of a white sheet. Start from them in search of a plot. Color pages can be vibrant and disturbing, or create a calm, melancholy mood. Color or texture can tell you the next step - or maybe you can't wait to paint without them. 2. Find your watercolor paperThe result of the work largely depends on the quality of the watercolor paper. Go to a bookstore and pick 5-10 different sheets of watercolor paper to try. Be sure to make notes on each sheet (type, weight of paper and the results of work with it). A suitable paper weight for beginners is 300g / m2, some professionals prefer 600g / m2. There are other types of watercolor paper, such as NOT paper and rough textured paper, or cold-pressed paper.
3. Use professional paintsEven aspiring artists should purchase professional watercolors. Unlike cheap analogs, artistic paints lay down beautifully and spread on paper.
It is true that artistic paints are more expensive, but they will also last longer. They are better divorced and therefore not consumed as quickly. Advice. Try new paints and other art materials as often as possible. Experiment. Don't become a hostage to one habit. 4. Observe and consider before picking up the brushStudy the structure of the object before drawing. Look at it as if you are seeing it for the first time, take a close look, take notes, sketches, get comfortable with textures and details that you never paid attention to. For example, observe the spiraling arrangement of leaves or curls along the veins of the stem.
Try to mentally disassemble what you see. Select the main shapes. See how they overlap. Imagine the landscape as a stage set. Pay attention to what's closest, what's next. 5. Learn to mix paintsTry mixing colors to see what shades you can achieve with your paint set. First mix two colors, then add a third to them. Experiment! You will love creating such beautiful colors and variations in shades and tones, the number of them is almost endless. Focus on yourself. You can make either very realistic drawings or very non-trivial ones. Your task is to collect paints, the properties of which you will know, which will allow you to create the desired shades with a guaranteed good result.
6. Start with Lean ExpressionIf you're making pencil sketches or sketches, you can diversify your watercolor drawings with accents. It is not necessary to color the entire page; sometimes a few successful brush strokes create the strongest effect.
7. Use liquid watercolor primerThe liquid watercolor primer is applied to the paper before starting work and allows you to easily remove dried paint if necessary. This is especially important when working with intense or persistent pigments, so you don't have to be afraid to "stain" the paper in the glare area. Before applying it, practice in a sketchbook, as the drawing surface will be quite slippery. To remove paint from those areas where it was not needed (accidentally went over the edges or you need to make highlights) - just wash off the paint with a clean moistened brush or sponge. 8. Learn the art of glazingGlaze artists call the technique of obtaining deep iridescent colors by applying translucent paints over the main one. The glazing technique is a great way to convey the finest colors. The paints are applied very delicately, layer by layer, and after drying, the details of the last layer are worked out.
9. Technique "dry brush"This technique can be used to paint animal fur or small hairs on fruits such as kiwi. Draw paint on a brush, remove excess with a napkin. Straighten the hairs of the brush. Apply paint to a dry surface previously painted with the background color. Work in small strokes in one direction to simulate hairs on the surface.
In this article you will find many interesting ideas on how to diversify drawing lessons with your child and make them interesting and informative. Environmentally friendly paints for childrenFor children, there are 3 types of safe paints that parents prefer:
It is better to start with finger paints, they are suitable for younger children. You can learn more about them from the article. Gouache and watercolors for older children. The child is interested in exploring something new, but over time he may get tired of the monotonous procedure for painting a sheet with paint. To prevent this from happening, parents need to show the child how else to draw. There are many ways to paint with the above paints. Various techniques will not let your child get bored and will show him a lot of new and interesting things that he has not seen before. Finger drawing for kidsThis is the most interesting activity for the little ones, because the paint must first be touched before learning to draw with it. Dip your index finger in the paint and put spots on the paper with them, draw a flower or a caterpillar with them. Draw lines with your finger, make rays of the sun. Show your child that you can draw this way and let him create himself, let him draw what he wants. Painting with a brush for childrenWhen the child is already able to hold a brush in handles, show him how to draw with it. Explain to your child to wash it before taking on a new color. Take paint on a brush and apply it to a sheet of paper. Try to paint with brushes of different sizes and shapes, see what kind of drawing you get. You can paint with a brush in the following ways: Spot painting for kidsShow how you can draw with dots, for this you can use a brush, a finger, and a cotton swab. Dip your tool in paint and quickly touch the paper with it. You can decorate simple pictures with this technique, kids really like this activity, and besides, it is very useful for the development of fine motor skills of the hands. Drawing with stamps for childrenApply paint to the die and place it on the paper, press down. An imprint of the picture will remain on the paper. Show your toddler how to work with it. Stamps can be painted in different colors; instead of ready-made stamps, you can use homemade ones. For example, you can make circles with a straw, you can use figures from sorters, parts from a designer, and even cut vegetables and fruits. A very interesting texture is obtained if, instead of a stamp, you use a regular napkin with pimples. Dip it in paint and, as if blotting, walk it over a sheet of paper. Painting with foam rubberCut a piece of foam and dip it in the paint, then press it against the paper and remove. You can draw lines, paint over some shapes. Show your kid how they can draw. Also, the child will be interested if you make different geometric shapes out of foam rubber. You can attach them to a pencil or stick and use them as stamps. So, while playing, you can learn not only colors, but also shapes. Then complicate the task, try to draw ornaments, first from two shapes, then use more shapes. Drawing on wet paperDampen a piece of drawing paper with water. Now paint on it. The contours of the lines blur, become fuzzy, smooth transitions and haze are excellent. Just do not overdo it with water, it will be better if you wipe it with a damp cotton swab. This technique is good for paintings with rain, fog, flowers behind a curtain. BlotographyTeach your child to put blots, because then it is so interesting to guess what they look like. Take a sheet of paper, fold it in half, unfold and put several blots on the fold, you can make them in the same color or different. Fold the sheet along the fold and slide your fingers from the center of the drawing to the edge. At the same time, you can say something like "sim-salabim". Unfold the sheet and show the kid what happened. When the child grows up a little, you can ask him what he sees in the picture, what he reminds him of. When the drawing is dry, you can add small details with a felt-tip pen or draw a contour. It develops imagination and abstract thinking very well. NitkographyTo do this, you will need a sheet of thick paper and a woolen thread. Bend the sheet in half and unfold, lower the thread into a jar of paint, then put it on paper and fold it. Move the thread, pressing the sheet with your palm. Expand and see what happens. You will see chaotic strokes of paint, examine them with your child, maybe you will see some familiar objects in them, circle them and add details, say what they are called. A combination of creativity, mental work and speech work will help your child develop intellectually. Wax paintingThis is a very common and interesting technique. Draw a picture on a piece of paper with crayon or a piece of wax candle, and then paint over this piece of paper with your child. Since the wax is greasy, its paint will not paint over and you will see your drawing. Using this method, you can still make secret notes or write congratulations. Waxing and painting techniquesPlace something under a piece of paper, such as a coin or other embossed object and rub the sheet with wax, paint over the top with paint and you will get an image of the object. Salt drawingsSprinkle salt on your finished design. When the paint dries, the salt will remain on the sheet and give an interesting texture to the drawing. Thus, you can make a three-dimensional drawing, for example, highlight stones or a path in the image. On blue paint, the salt will look like snowflakes, if you sprinkle the green leaves with salt, they will become like living, translucent. Drawings with masking tapeMolar tape sticks well and peels off the paper, so it can be used in drawing and get interesting effects. For example, you can make a birch forest: cut out tree trunks from scotch tape, from the remains you can stick twigs and branches, stick scotch tape on a sheet of paper. On top, paint everything with paint, when it dries, remove the tape, white stripes will remain under it. it remains to add details and the forest is ready! You can cut something more complicated, such as houses, and draw a whole city. Scotch tape is good because it can be used instead of a stencil, but paint drips are unlikely to fall under it, and you do not need to fix it additionally. You can also use the tape as a frame for the picture, when you remove it, the edges of the picture will be clear and it will be neat. Drawing pictures with cling filmYes, with the help of cling film, you can also make interesting drawings. Lay it on a sheet of paper covered with wet paint and drag it around a little. When you remove it, you will see interesting abstractions that resemble crystals. Blowing paint through strawsDilute the paint with water to thin it. Take one or two colors. Place a drop of paint on a sheet and blow into the straw, directing it in different directions towards the paint. The drawing will resemble the interlacing of tree branches, or you can add a face and it will be hair - let the child dream up. Painting picturesDraw a small animal on a piece of paper and ask the child to hide it, just first show how: paint it completely with paint. At the same time, you can tell a fairy tale, for example, that there was a mouse, she went for delicious cheese, and a cat was waiting for her, which wanted to eat the mouse. And ask the kid how you can help the mouse? Of course, it must be hidden. And ask him to do it. Drawing of a leafA very fun way to draw. For this you need leaves from trees. Apply paint to the leaves, you can paint with different colors, attach the leaf with paint to the paper and press, then carefully remove. You can make such a beautiful forest. If you include a little imagination, you will come up with a lot of new ideas with which drawing will not only be fun, but also informative, educational and useful. Besides paints, there are also other painting tools. Your baby will definitely like wax crayons, felt-tip pens, and crayons. More details about fine and other types of creativity are described in the article VIDEO: Let's paint with paints! Drawing games
Hello everyone! You very much asked me to publish watercolor painting lessons, and I thought for a long time where to find suitable material, because this topic is not new, and there is already a lot of different information on the Internet, so I decided not to invent, but to use materials from foreign authors. This article is the first, but far from the last. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful! This article covers the basics you need to know to get started with watercolor painting. However, if you keep scratching your head after reading, then please feel free to ask questions in the comments! I will answer you with pleasure! Before I started writing this article, I decided to do a little research on the Internet on painting. watercolor for beginners... Thus, I reasoned, I would not have missed a single moment, and I would have written the best post. But God right ... I've been painting with watercolors my whole life, and the information I found on Google overwhelmed me. After three overwhelming articles that were overwhelming, I threw up my hands and decided that I would show you how I, personally, work with watercolors - and the adjective to my watercolor approach is “simple”. Tools and materialsFirst, I want to tell you about the materials and tools that you need. Of course, the most obvious tool will be the watercolor set. I prefer the Greenleaf & Blueberry set. It's a little pricey, but I love it! However, if you're just starting out, you don't need to invest in expensive kits.
Finally, you will need clean water and cloth(I'm using an old dinner napkin) or paper towel to blot the brush. Any dish will work, I use an old mug. Transparency of watercolorThe great thing about watercolor painting is that you have complete control over the opacity of the paint. Watch how one color can change depending on the ratio of water to paint on the brush! The picture on the left shows what a stroke looks like when there is a lot of water and a little paint. The illustration in the middle shows a more equal ratio of water to paint. The picture on the right has more paint than water. You might be thinking, "This is all good, but how can I control this water / paint ratio?" Before you do anything, apply a drop or two of water directly to the cuvette you plan to use. This will moisturize the paint and make it ready to use. Then, you can do one of two things: 1. Use a palette Apply about five drops of water to the second well. Again, dip the still wet brush in watercolor and transfer the color to the water. Be sure to shake with a brush so that all the paint comes off! If this new color is very similar to your first, add more paint. For the darkest shade, you just work directly with the paint from the ditch, the shade should be very saturated. 2. We work directly from the watercolor set MixingThe reason we studied transparency is blending and overlaying colors. With different shades of the same color, you can make any look real. I'm going to show you how to turn a circle into a ball using watercolor blending and opacity: 1. First, draw a circle in the lightest shade. 2. Suppose the light is at the top right as shown in the picture. Accordingly, the shadow will be in the lower left corner of the circle. To start painting the shadow, use your medium shade with the brush. Draw the shadow as if it "hugs" the crescent-shaped circle, like this: 3. You can see that there is now a definite separation between the shadow and the highlights. To get rid of this difference and create a smooth transition, you need to mix colors together - it's an easy task when painting with watercolors! To mix, immerse the brush in water to rinse off any remaining paint from the brush. Dry the brush to make sure all the paint is gone, then wet the brush bristles again with water. Then, place the brush on the separation between the shadow and highlights and drag in the middle shade with water, it will blur. Soon, you won't be able to tell where the middle hue and light ends and where the shadow begins! 4. Now it's time to add a dark shadow to the bottom of the circle. Apply a darker shade around the bottom of the sphere as in the photo. 5. Mix the dark shade just like you did with the medium shade, and voila! 6. You can add a drop shadow if you like. To do this, draw a thin line on the opposite side of the light below the sphere, like this: Then, you need to draw out the color with a brush soaked in water until it disappears. You may find it easier to understand the concept of blending / shading if you watch the video: If you want to practice more mixing and shaping, I would recommend painting these shapes in different colors: You could make the sphere green, the cube blue, and so on. Drawing shapes like these can help you figure out how to make things look three-dimensional. Yes, it might be a little boring ... but so rewarding! Mixing watercolors To mix watercolors, you definitely need a palette, whether built into your kit or standalone. The color mixing process is simple: you need to apply one color to the palette and then add another color. Mix them together and you have a new color! If you have a small selection of colors in a set, knowing how to mix will come in very handy. There are many sources that tell you what colors to mix together to achieve the desired result. If your mixed color dries up in your palette, don't worry. You can re-wet it and it will be as good as new no matter the amount of time that has passed. It is not only children who dream of learning to draw, especially since many adults have talents that remain unrealized. There are various easy techniques for drawing with paints for beginners. The easiest way to learn how to create is with gouache, you can also use watercolor or oil paints, but certain skills are required to work with the latter. Artist's kit - componentsTo learn how to paint, you cannot do without paints. It is better to buy high-quality paints right away, because too cheap ones are worse, therefore, the learning process will be less productive. A beginner should not spend money on a professional set: to start drawing from scratch, it is enough to have basic colors:
The easiest way is to work with gouache, but an adult or schoolchild can easily cope with watercolors. The ideal option is not an ordinary nursery, but watercolor for artists, which is of the best quality. Budget sets of 24 colors cost 400-500 rubles. In principle, five tones (red, blue, yellow, white, black) are enough for an artist, and the rest can be created by mixing. To combine paints, you need to immediately buy a palette. Form, material can be any. On sale there are round, oval, square palettes, wood products, plastic. The size of the palette is also up to the user's choice.
A round brush with a sharp tip is also suitable for a novice artist. It is also convenient for her to work out fine contours, graceful details in the technique of painting with watercolors. Be sure to include a flat wide brush for filling. It is used as a background or stripes over a large area of a canvas, a sheet of paper. Over time, fan, linear, retouching are usually added to the collection of brushes. It is important to examine the brushes for a secure connection between the pile and the handle - it must be very strong. Other accessories in the artist's set:
Watercolor painting techniquesYou need to study the various ways of drawing in stages, moving from the easiest to the most difficult. At first, most artists apply sketching, then they begin to show imagination and create their own masterpieces. It is recommended to start learning to work with watercolors with the techniques described below. Painting with a flat brushIf the drawing is invented, you should follow these steps step by step:
GradientFirst, you also need to work out a square, a rectangle (in the future, this will be the drawing required by the artist). Then you should take the following steps:
With the help of a gradient, you can create very interesting transitions that form the basis of a future picture. Watercolor glazeThe glaze technique requires the artist's imagination, with its help a landscape, an image of autumn and summer, and a landscape come out well. Description of the technique on the example of the landscape:
The point of glazing is that all layers of paint interact with each other, overlap one another and, when overlapped, give even more interesting effects. "Wet" techniqueBefore drawing, you need to moisten a sheet of paper with water. Of course, paper needs to be thick, not sagging. Wetting is carried out with a sponge, having previously squeezed it out. The moisture should be evenly distributed over the sheet and not shine, otherwise there is too much water on it.
You should not combine cold and warm tones in one drawing, this will give visual dissonance. Dry brush drawingDrawing in this technique is not difficult. The paint should be taken on a dry brush, then a smear should be carried out on paper. Beforehand, it is recommended to sketch with a pencil. At first, the sketches will be rather rough - for example, the outlines of the sky, trunks and branches of trees, a river. After the first layer dries, add details, create shadows, draw texture. Then they make a background around them, place the necessary accents. When painting, you need to change the pressure on the brush, which will allow you to add or remove texture. It is important that the brush does not remain too wet after rinsing and blotting. Otherwise, the paint will not give the effect of texture, it will look flat. No excess moistureThe technique is well suited for drawing clouds, streams of light. Before starting work, you need to prepare several sponges or sponges for the face. First, strokes are performed with a dry or wet brush, then they are rubbed with sponges. It is important not to rub the sheet hard to avoid damaging the paper. Highlights can be done with paper towels. After that, if necessary, the contours of the drawings and accents are drawn with a thin dry brush. Discoloration of dried paintIn this case, the clarification of the already dried pattern is performed. The desired areas need to be moistened with a cloth, wipe gently with a dry brush. It is best to use brushes with stiff bristles, which can scrape off the paint a little. Actions must be careful, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the paper. Instead of using a cloth, it is permissible to sprinkle the paper with a spray bottle, and then dampen the moisture with a paper towel. Another option is to gently rub the drawing with sandpaper, then you do not need to wet it first. Gouache for beginnersUsually it is recommended to learn to paint with gouache even in childhood - from 4-6 years old. It is very easy to apply, does not float, and is much easier to work with than watercolor. Gouache drawings can be very diverse - nature, animals, flowers and trees, fruits, etc. Adults paint real landscapes with gouache. You can make drawings not only on paper, but also on canvas, plywood, wood, fabric, even on stones, pebbles. For this purpose, it is better to purchase not children's, but artistic gouache, which is of high quality. First, a sketch is made with a pencil, after which it is painted over. They start with dark colors, gradually moving to light ones. It is necessary to mix paints taking into account the color wheel, otherwise the result will be a gray tone. Features of oil paintsExperienced artists appreciate oil paints, which are presented in a wide range in specialized stores. The composition of paints contains minerals, organic and synthetic components. They are diluted not with water, but with linseed oil, which gives brightness, saturation of tone. Paints dry for a long time, but the drawing can be corrected within a certain time. To dilute dried, thickened paint, a special oil is also used, which is sold in the art departments. Types of oil paintsThere are three types of oil paints:
Drawing rules and techniquesThe oil painting looks very beautiful. The strokes look each on their own, although it is quite difficult to achieve such an effect. There are two main techniques: in one coating (alla-prima) and in several layers. For a multi-layer overlay of paints, you will have to try - work quickly, do not dilute the material, know its properties and how one tone will look over the second. Oil consumption for multi-coat applications is usually high. A single layer drawing has its drawbacks. So, over time, strokes can crack due to the squeezing of paint, so most professionals dry the first layer and apply at least one more. This way, material costs can be reduced.
Acrylic paints combine the properties of oil and watercolors, they do not fade, they are not afraid of water. You can apply layers directly on top of the previous ones, without waiting for them to dry. For a start, it is better to buy a set of 6 colors, then expand to 18. It is worth painting with acrylic on paper, canvas, fabric, glass, plastic, stones. Dilute the paint with water, solvents. The following techniques are used:
Tips for working with acrylic are as follows:
Drawings on fabricIt is rather difficult to do fabric drawings; it is better to practice on a different basis. With experience, it is quite possible to paint on silk, synthetics, natural fabrics. First, the fabric must be washed, ironed, stretched over the frame, or placed on a flat surface. Place an oilcloth under the fabric, draw a drawing with a special felt-tip pen for fabric. Afterwards, perform art painting. The easiest way is to work with ready-made stencils, but you can make a drawing yourself. After a day of drying, you need to iron the product with an iron, after 2 days it can be washed. Paintings on canvasFor acrylic, canvas is the ideal base. Paints must be prepared in advance, diluted with water. If mixing is planned, it is better to use a special solvent, otherwise the material will dry out quickly. The palette should be periodically sprayed with water. They begin to draw the largest details, as they draw smaller lines, they change the brushes to thin ones. The rate of dilution of paints with water to create more transparent tones is less than 20%. Drawings on paperFor the first time, you should try drawing on paper. Since the structure of the paints is dense (it is, in fact, liquid plastic), ordinary thin paper will not work. Better to take cardboard or special thick paper. Also, drawings can be performed on paper wallpaper that has already been glued to the walls. This is a popular design technique that allows you to decorate a plain material and give a room an original look. Painting on glassPictures on the glass look very beautiful, they resemble a finished stained glass window. The contours of the future drawing are made with a thin marker according to the sketch, which is placed under the glass. After that, paints are applied layer by layer, forming the desired color combinations, accents, lighter and darker zones. At the end of the work, acrylic varnish is applied to the picture. Paints give endless scope for imagination. Learning to draw is easy. Even without talent, you can make beautiful drawings with enough diligence and perseverance. |
