home - Do it yourself
When you are not appreciated at work. Should you stay in a job where you are not valued or should you leave? The boss openly expresses his indifference

What to do if you are not appreciated at work?

Don't worry about it. The main thing is that you love your work and understand that you are fulfilling your purpose; the main thing is that you have personal interest and meaning in your work.

But they may not appreciate because of competition, envy, or inability to appreciate.

The first thing to do is to analyze: is this fair? Are you doing a good job? Do you show yourself well in terms of human qualities (sometimes they also look at this)? If everything is fine on your part, then you need to talk to management. If nothing changes for the better, you need to look for a new job, a better one, and leave. The second option: you analyzed everything and realized that there are gaps somewhere - either in terms of professionalism, or you screwed up humanly, which also happens. Then you need to increase your professional zeal, delve more deeply into your work, learn from experience from more successful colleagues, minimize entertainment moments (ICQ, the press, snacks, teas, coffees, trips to the smoking room and to girlfriends’ offices). Try to establish relationships with the team and management. It is important. It is especially important to have a good relationship with your superiors; your career largely depends on it. It is very difficult, but it is possible. If you did all this and these efforts did not give the desired result, they still did not begin to appreciate you, then, again, you need to look for a new job and leave. Well, if the measures taken helped you, then you can continue to work.

in reality very few people are valued, but for me it makes no sense to leave for the next couple of years, so work

if you tried to prove yourself 100 times, but to no avail? Is this kind of work necessary then? Maybe it's just her and not you? in the team, management, area of your activity?? If you really feel so bad, why haven't you quit yet! do it, it means it’s not yours and you don’t need to try to prove something to someone by fighting doors that are specially closed just for you. You need to give up all this, the problem is not in people and not in problems, the problem is in the head! Change your thoughts, become aware and put an end to everything that holds you like an anchor, preventing you from taking off!

The first, the very first thing you need to find out: Do you love your job? And after you give yourself an honest answer, you can think about what to do with the existing situation.

If you are not appreciated at your job, it does not mean that you are a bad employee. But this is not excluded) Perhaps you should pay more attention to fulfilling your duties.

If you are already a master of your craft, the work is boiling and gurgling in your hands, everything works out for you and at the same time you are undeservedly relegated to the background - this is already a reason to think about ... the amount of compensation for these inconveniences. That is, are you comfortable with feeling unfairly assessed for the financial reward that your employer offers you?

If you have enough money, then the choice is yours: what is more important to you, love for work or what others, employers, etc. think about you (we assume that the work is at least somehow close to you in spirit and you can find satisfaction in it, otherwise it’s very difficult).

Of course, the choice is not easy. Feeling undeservedly treated, even for good money, is a test. On the other hand, if a person is busy with his own business, then he will have no time to be sad (of course, if he is satisfied with the financial component of the work).

Well, and finally, if the salary is not satisfactory (and there is no particular love for work), then there is every reason to think: maybe there is a place where you will be underestimated for a lot of money? :) Or you will find one, even for the same money , but whatever you like.

In any case, you should not blame anyone - this will allow you to soberly assess the situation. It’s better to calmly weigh the pros and cons and wait a while before making any decision. Good luck to everyone in your work!

You can do the most radical thing and change your job. Maybe in your new job you will be more appreciated and respected. If you want to stay at this job, then develop your communication skills and make friends with the team and your bosses. Show your best side as a responsible employee and then promotion up the career ladder will not take long.

Many project managers unfortunately encounter employees who are underappreciated. This arises due to the following circumstances:
  1. Due to the fact that work is in full swing around the manager, he, first of all, notices those who show themselves. And those about which department heads speak positively at meetings.
  2. When entering the office, the boss first notices those who smile and shine with positivity. And those who smile receive a virtual plus sign in their piggy bank. And those who sit like a cloud do not receive. So it goes.
  3. Management really likes people who take initiative in their work, come up with new schemes and bombard their bosses with cool ideas. And they completely ignore those who would rather choose to work according to a template than creativity and a new approach. In fact, of course, both are needed in the company. But those whose eyes sparkle and who treat work as a place for their own implementation of ideas evoke deep respect.
  4. Management stops noticing employees who have repeatedly let them down in some areas. Even if they are good specialists in their field...etc.
If you feel like your boss doesn't value you, do the following:

Take a piece of paper and write down why you feel like you are not appreciated. For example: “I’m an expert in my field, but my bosses don’t praise me...” or “I get paid less than I should get.” or “I do an excellent job, but others don’t, but it’s not me they praise...”. After you do this, write a method for solving the problem that would help you. I think it will all come down to "talk to management." And it is right.

Unfortunately, many managers forget that they need to praise an employee. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with saying that you lack approval.

If you feel like your earnings are lower than they should be, don't be afraid to say so. But this should not look like “raise my salary, I don’t make enough.” The dialogue should be structured along the lines of: “I have such and such responsibilities, I do my job conscientiously, I stay after work, in the last month I have had such and such successes, etc.” and only then report on what you would like to raise wages.

If you don’t want to talk to your boss or your problems are not so critical and you would like a slightly more loyal attitude towards you from management, then you can follow the following tips:

1 . Smile. Remember when I said that I pay attention first of all to those who smile? And this is not just like that. Try to remember what is happening for you. Model the situation in your head or conduct an experiment. I am sure that if you walk into the office tomorrow, you will first pay attention to those who smile good-naturedly at you and say “hello.”

2 . Image is your everything. It is very important to look good. I'm not advocating wearing expensive jackets to work and looking pretentious. But I kindly ask you to ensure that your clothes are always clean and tidy.

3 . Be proactive. When an employee offers great ideas and does his job with enthusiasm, this always evokes only positive emotions from management.

4 . Forget about the schedule. Try leaving work a little later than expected, staying late to get work done. As a manager, I appreciate employees who perceive their work as something more. If an employee comes to work exactly at 9 and leaves exactly at 6, I understand that we have a commercial relationship with him, built on “do this and get money.” If I see that an employee enjoys his work, I begin to treat him with sympathy. Perhaps because all managers perceive work as something more? ;)

5 . No falsehood. You shouldn't tell your boss that he looks good or that you're glad that he gave you the task - IF IT'S NOT SO. Seriously. The fake is always felt. You don't even have to try.

6 . Keep yourself busy. I don't like employees at all who disappear in the kitchen, even if they manage to complete the work on time. Because looking at such situations, I see how the company’s money is flowing away for his wages. So he drank tea, spent an extra 20 minutes.... Total spent: 83 rubles for his salary + tea.

Summarizing:

We are confident that the advice given above will have a positive impact on the situation you have with your superiors. At least, I wanted it to be that way. Try to follow them

One day a young man came to the sage and said:

I came to you because I feel so pathetic and worthless that I don’t want to live. Everyone around me says that I am a loser, a bungler and an idiot. I ask you, sage, help me!

With pleasure, sage,” he muttered, noting with bitterness that he was once again being relegated to the background.

“Okay,” said the sage and took off a small gold ring with a beautiful stone from his left little finger. - Take your horse and ride to the market square! I urgently need to sell this ring to pay off my debt. Try to take more for it, and under no circumstances agree to a price lower than a gold coin! Go ahead and come back as soon as possible!

The young man took the gold ring and rode away. Arriving at the market square, he began to offer the ring to the traders, and at first they looked at his goods with interest. But as soon as they heard about the gold coin, they immediately lost all interest in the ring. Some openly laughed in his face, others simply turned away, and only one elderly merchant kindly explained to him that a gold coin was too high a price for such a ring and that they could only give him a copper coin, or, in extreme cases, a silver one.

Hearing the old man’s words, the young man was very upset, because he remembered the sage’s order to never lower the price below a gold coin. Having walked around the entire market and offered the ring to about a hundred people, the young man saddled his horse again and returned. Greatly depressed by his failure, he went to the sage.

Sage, I could not fulfill your instructions,” he said sadly. “At best, I could get a couple of silver coins for a gold ring, but you didn’t tell me to settle for less than a gold coin!” This ring doesn't cost that much.

You just said very important words, son! - responded the sage. - Before trying to sell a ring, it would be a good idea to establish its true value! Well, who can do this better than a jeweler? Go to the jeweler and ask him how much he will offer us for the ring. Just no matter what he answers you, don’t sell the ring, but come back to me.

The young man jumped on his horse again and went to the jeweler.

The jeweler looked at the gold ring through a magnifying glass for a long time, then weighed it on small scales and finally turned to the young man:

Tell the sage that now I cannot give him more than fifty-eight gold coins. But if he gives me time, I will buy the ring for seventy, given the urgency of the transaction.

Seventy coins?! - the young man laughed joyfully, thanked the jeweler and ran back at full speed.

“Sit here,” he said, after listening to the young man’s animated story. - And know, son, that you are this very ring. Precious and unique! And only a true expert can evaluate you. So why do you walk around the bazaar, expecting that the first person you meet will do it?

Now do you understand what to do if you are not appreciated?

We all have to deal with frustration, stress and too much workload while working. Everyone has had days when most of all they wanted to run home. But what to do if such a desire arises in you constantly? And all because, as it seems to you, no one appreciates your contribution to the common cause. These tips will help you understand why you feel unappreciated and give you tips on how to deal with the situation.

Pull yourself together

Stress is a poison that slowly but surely affects every cell of the body. Difficulties at work lead to sleepless nights, headaches and health problems. You feel overwhelmed, depressed and exhausted, you don’t watch your diet, you have long forgotten the way to the gym and morning exercises. You take it out on your colleagues and loved ones, and again everything goes in circles.

If you feel like you are not valued, there is a real fire raging inside. But you must maintain your composure. If you feel like you're about to explode, try to change your surroundings and leave the office for at least two minutes.

Decide on claims

It's important to understand why you feel unappreciated. As a rule, there are several reasons for this, for example, the salary is too low with constant overtime and increased workload. Perhaps you see your peers achieving more, or you feel angry at management who never thanks you for your efforts.

Only after deciding on your claims and what you want to get in the end can you move on. If you don't have enough knowledge to feel comfortable, consider attending trainings. If you are sure that you have enough experience, move on to the next step.

Formulate questions for management

In some cases, employees themselves are to blame for being underestimated, although they do not even suspect it. If your manager doesn't know what exactly you do, he won't be able to appreciate your contributions and ideas. Make sure your boss knows what you're working on.

Being under constant stress, it is easy to get carried away by reasoning and complain about things or not. When talking with your manager, raise only pressing issues that he can resolve. It is beyond his power to rid the city of traffic jams and move work closer to your home.

Unfortunately, many people avoid personal meetings with management - and in vain: if something bothers you, you need to voice it right now.

Ask for a reduction in workload or a salary increase

Of course, not everyone will dare to admit that you cannot cope with all your responsibilities, but it is still important to do so. After the crisis and layoffs, many companies have still not restored their staff and workers are faced with increased workload. If your boss doesn’t know that you’re having a hard time, he won’t redistribute volumes or think about expanding the staff.

People often feel unappreciated because their pay is not commensurate with their efforts. It's scary, but if you believe you deserve more, you need to raise the issue of a promotion.

Remember your goals

When we work tirelessly and are forced to solve several problems at the same time, we forget about the goals that we set for ourselves when we got a job. Remember why you chose this place. Did it live up to your expectations?

If you can't concentrate, take a vacation to replenish your energy and clear your thoughts. It is not necessary to buy tickets to exotic countries - you can relax at home or go to a neighboring city. If you are a truly valuable employee, your colleagues will immediately notice how much they miss you.

Consider changing jobs

Have you done everything possible to influence the situation, but still no results? Perhaps it's time to think about looking for a new place. Many reasons force us to stay in a job that does not satisfy us: doubts in our own abilities, lack of experience, the proximity of the workplace to home, and finally, the banal fear of being left out of work. But it’s better to overcome yourself and become a full-fledged member of a new team than to always be on the sidelines.
