In this article I will try to tell you how to make a bow out of wood with your own hands. The material for the bow was the Hazelnut. The selected trunk is knotty, crooked, but it is almost impossible to find a straight hazel.

You will need:

• Swiss knife;
• Hazel trunk;
• Kevlar bowstring cord;
• Pencil (for lack of a pencil, I marked out with charcoal).

We begin the process of making onions with our own hands with coarse drying of the wood. How to do it: the trunk is pushed into a metal pipe, which is dug into the floor of a shovel bayonet, and above the pipe, directly on the ground, we make fires using charcoal for barbecue. We bring one end of the pipe to fresh air so that moisture can escape. All this languishes for about 5-6 hours. After the specified time, the barrel is completely dry and ready for further manipulations.

Use a knife to create the desired shape.

Then the bow was shot.

As a result, I underwent a harsh transformation from a survival bow into a primitive bow, like the German one, for which it was marked under the handle. For the bowstring, tips made of scraps of some dense wood were glued onto a cyanoacrylate gel.

Then the handle underwent rough processing for decorative winding.

The whole evening I had to fix the bandages.
Work process: marking under the bandages with a step of 5 cm. I glued the insulating tape to those places that will not be bandaged. The trick is to glue the tape on top to avoid re-polishing the body of the bow. nothing sticks to wood. Then PVA -> winding the cord -> firing with a torch to remove excess hairs from the winding -> working with the handle.

With which, by the way, everything turned out quite complicated. I wore the leather at first, but the bow looked a little eclectic because of this. Therefore, I removed the skin and wound a cotton cord. It took 10 meters, as it was in one coil, as if it was specially calculated.

After I finished winding, I did something important. Namely, he spread PVA with water (ratio - 50x50) and, without removing the electrical tape, missed the bandages with this mixture, along with the handle. I cemented it, so to speak, additionally.

He took off the electrical tape until the glue hardened, left the onion to dry overnight, and in the morning painted it with a synthetic and smelly stain, a shade of "Mahogany". That's it, now the bow is ready.

The handle is designed so that there is a distinction between the top and the bottom. Visually, the shoulders overlap each other. The bow from the back has a natural circle, from which it is cut with a simple knife. From the side of the abdomen - a D-shaped section. A simple business, accessible to everyone, requiring no special tools, despite the low tension force.

This is how you can make a bow with your own hands. Of course, you are interested in the parameters of the product. After all the tealing and banding, the bow is 12.7 kg with a 70 cm stretch. Crisp and strong, despite the slight pulling force. This is the kind of magic of long bows.
