Fish fillet with potatoes in the oven This is a great idea for a family lunch or dinner. By itself, the dish is hearty and very tasty. No need to come up with a side dish or any other additions to it. Fish fillet baked in the oven with potatoes is very easy to cook, and absolutely any sea fish will do.

Ingredients for cooking fish fillet with potatoes in the oven:

  1. Fish fillet (marine) 500 grams
  2. Potato 1 kilogram
  3. Fresh tomatoes 300 grams
  4. Mayonnaise 200 milliliters
  5. Hard cheese 100 grams
  6. Salt 2 pinches
  7. Ground black pepper 1 pinch

Baking dish, kitchen knife, cutting board, paring knife, disposable paper towels, hot potholders, grater.

Cooking fish fillet with potatoes in the oven:

Step 1: Prepare the fish fillet.

The fish fillet must be defrosted, never cook from a frozen one, nothing interesting will come of it. After defrosting, the fish should be washed with cold water, dried with paper towels and cut into small pieces. Pepper the fillet, salt and leave it for 15 minutes, soaked in spices. At this time, prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Important: you can use not only pepper, but also any other spices suitable for cooking fish.

Step 2: Prepare the potatoes.



First potatoes. It must be washed from the ground and other debris, only then remove the skin and then rinse again. Cut the peeled and washed potatoes into slices of medium (0.5 - 0.7 cm) width so that they bake better and faster.

Step 3: Prepare the tomatoes.



Rinse the tomatoes, wipe off excess moisture from their skins, remove the stalks. Cut the prepared vegetables into slices of medium thickness (very thin ones can simply part and lose their shape).

Step 4: Prepare the cheese.



Grate the cheese on a medium or fine grater. To make the process go faster, you can moisten the grater with cool water, then the cheese will stick to it less.

Step 5: Cooking the fish fillet with potatoes in the oven.



Lay exactly half of the entire potato in the form, trying to ensure that the circles of the vegetable lie in one layer, without touching each other. Salt and pepper the potatoes. On top of the potatoes, lay the fish fillet that has managed to soak in spices and salt. Lay slices of tomato on the fish, they should also lie in one layer, almost without touching each other. Another layer of potatoes sprinkled with salt and pepper. Spread the potato slices with mayonnaise. And sprinkle everything on top with grated cheese, evenly distributing it over the entire area.


Place the filled mold in a preheated 180 degrees oven on 40 minutes. During this time, the potatoes and fish will be baked, become softer, and an appetizing crispy crust will form on top of the cheese.

Step 6: Serve the fish fillet with potatoes in the oven.



Serve the fish fillet with potatoes hot, preferably as soon as you take the dish out of the oven. No sauce is needed, but for beauty, you can add some fresh herbs or slices of vegetables. Fish cooked in this way is tender and potatoes are soft and fragrant. And you don’t have to invent anything beyond measure, such a simple dish is enough to please your whole family.

Mayonnaise can be safely replaced with sour cream, and if neither is available, you can put a few pieces of butter on top of the grated cheese.

Cheeses such as Russian, Dutch and Kostroma are best suited for cooking in the oven, they form just the right crust.
