Lure fishing in winter

Lure fishing in winter is a very interesting type of fishing. Winter lure is considered the most active type of fishing, because the angler is faced with the task of continuous movement around the reservoir in search of a predator. And in the case of its discovery, the most interesting begins. How nice it is to catch perch with a lure in the winter, and even more pleasant to catch pike or zander. We will talk about catching this fish, we will understand the tactics of catching and consider the most catchy baits.

Catching perch with a lure in winter is no different from fishing with a mormyshka, both of these methods are on par in terms of the number of fish caught. If you are new to this business, then you are better off fishing with a jig, since such tackle is much easier to set up and it is also quite easy to play with it.

But it’s not always better to choose easy ways, although it’s harder to catch a lure, the catch will please you. This makes experienced anglers want to impose on beginners what fishing with a lure is still better. And every fisherman should know at least the basics of this type of fishing.

But not everything is as simple as it seems, one wrong movement of the bait can scare the fish. And it is possible to exclude the wrong game and understand what lure fishing is in winter only after a lot of mistakes. Learning how to fish with a lure is possible only by experience.

Let's take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of spinners as bait for perch. Everyone knows that perch is a schooling fish. The moment of detection of a flock of predator is the key in the whole process of fishing. And here the spinner comes to the rescue, because only with its help you can quickly pull the fish out of the hole.

This type of tackle usually uses a thick line that will give you confidence during rhythmic fishing. The main thing is to choose the right ratio of the weight of the spinner and the thickness of the fishing line so that the bait quickly falls under the water.

If you caught one perch, then you should immediately send the bait into the water, since the likelihood that you ran into a flock is very high. The main thing is to do everything carefully so as not to scare the fish. And you will never return home without a catch. And here is a small list of rules, following which you will catch fish:

  • Try to spot a flock of perch;
  • Choose the right bait so that its game will surely provoke the fish to bite;
  • Make the spinner game as diverse and natural as possible.

Now let's take a closer look at the fishing technique, adhering to which you will not frighten away the fish, but on the contrary, provoke it to bite:

  • The first step is to adjust the working length of the fishing line. Then fasten it to the rod. Then lower the spinner into the water, so that it remains about 5 centimeters to the bottom. After that, it is necessary to raise the bait, slowly accelerating its movement, and then lower it again. Such wiring is considered classic and the easiest.
  • The next type of wiring is fishing from the bottom. It is necessary to lower the bait to the bottom. Then, with a sharp swing of the rod, raise the bait half a meter from the bottom. The perch most often grabs the lure with such wiring during the fall. If there is no fish at the bottom, then you can try to fish in this way in the middle and even in the upper layers of the water.
  • You can try to attract the fish with rhythmic strokes of the bait from the bottom up. Due to the fact that the bait quickly falls and rises, slack is formed on the fishing line, which leads to fluctuations in the spinner. You can try to start such wiring with slow twitches, and then gradually move on to faster ones.

Sometimes you can see that the fish begins to get scared and the bite stiffness decreases with each perch. In this case, the angler just needs to raise a flock of fish to the top layer of water. It is quite easy to do this, you just need to reel in 10-20 centimeters of fishing line after each bite. It is much easier to catch perch on a lure in the upper layer of water.

When choosing a particular model of spinner, you need to take into account a lot of factors, such as weather, features of a reservoir, and the like. It is believed that it is best to peep on what kind of lure the locals are catching and find the same one for yourself. The experience of local anglers has never failed. And since the spinner can only work under certain conditions, you can also watch how they play with it, maybe you can find out some more secrets.

Fishing for pike perch in winter attracts more and more fishermen every day. Every fisherman dreams of catching pike perch in winter, and the frequency of questions about how to catch pike perch with a lure in winter is growing rapidly. In winter, pike perch prefers to live in deep places, pits and blockages. Very often it is necessary to catch pike perch at depths slightly below the level of the mouth of the river. It is also worth paying attention to the reeds and underwater vegetation, where the predator often rises from the pits in search of small things. Such fish in reservoirs is much smaller than the other, because it prefers to be only in clean water.

Tackle for catching zander is somewhat similar to perch, only the elasticity of the rod tip is different, it is somewhat larger. The zander rod is about half a meter long. Not very thick fishing line is used, 3-5 kilograms per break. It is preferable to use spinners with a narrow body, up to 10 centimeters long. Very often you can see fishermen with homemade winter lures for pike perch. They are made in different colors and shapes. The spinner ring is necessarily equipped with a tee. Some people think that the tee is not enough and put a few more single hooks, soldering them.

I will deviate a little from the topic, but I will mention that pike perch is very well caught on a dead fish. But let's not get distracted, and move on to the process of catching. The technique of catching zander has very few differences from catching perch. First you need to lower the lure to the very bottom, then fix the fishing line. Then make a sharp swing of the rod, 40-50 centimeters. Then lower the bait again and repeat the rise. During lowering, the spinner moves in such a way that it attracts pike perch. It is in this way that you can provoke the fish to bite.

If you hear a bite, then you need to cut the pike perch very sharply, then pull the fishing line out of the hole with your hands. The best time for catching zander with a lure in winter is the first ice. Also, pike perch responds well to bait during prolonged frost, but not very large. In windy weather, it is better to cancel a fishing trip, as the fish are not quite active. It is best to devote morning and evening to fishing.

Winter spinners for pike perch should be narrow and long, since it is precisely such baits that fish prefer. But you should not choose too narrow lures, they may simply not catch fish, so the rule of the golden mean applies here, choose a bait that is not too wide, but not narrow either.

An important factor when choosing a bait is its color scheme. It is best to choose bright-colored baubles, because pike perch lives at depth and bright colors will attract it. Many consider the best winter spinners for pike perch to be fluorescent (those that glow). Such a bait will be visible even in absolute darkness.

Do not forget about the weight of the spinner. The choice of bait weight is influenced by two factors: the speed of the current and the thickness of the fishing line. The main thing is that your fishing line stretches under the weight of the spinner. By the way, please note that a light lure will not reach the bottom even with a supply of 5 meters of fishing line. And it is not suitable for catching zander in winter.

Choosing a turntable as a winter spinner for pike, you will definitely come home empty-handed. Most of the fish bites are due to the fall of the bait, and the spinner does not work in the fall. The length of the wire also plays a significant role, many spinners start after the first meter of the wire. And this is not suitable for winter fishing.

As soon as the reservoirs are covered with the first ice, it's time to go fishing for pike on a lure, its bites are immediately noticeable. A sharp push and pulling the rod out of your hands. As soon as you pull out the first fish, you will definitely want to catch more. And if you find a catchy lure - consider yourself very lucky. Very often this takes a long time.

But the choice of winter baubles for pike is not such an easy task. You not only need to choose the right bait, but also get used to it. Everyone has heard the classification of spinners of the type: for pike, perch and zander. Now, she's wrong. After all, when you are going to catch a certain fish, you are looking for it at a given depth and in certain places. The same situation with wiring and bait. And perch quite often comes across on a lure for pike.

All experienced fishermen have homemade baits or improved ones in their arsenal, they consider them the best. But this does not mean that you cannot buy a good winter lure in the store. From my own experience, I can say that Williams is considered the best manufacturer of spinners. Of course, lures from more well-known manufacturers are also well caught, namely: Hopkins, Tobi from Abu Garcia, Masau and Silver Creek from Daiwa, Lure Jensen. Finnish manufacturers also did not leave the winter lure of pike without attention, their Professor and Rassanen lures from Kuusam are considered very good. By the way, they can be used for summer fishing.

The size of the bait is selected in accordance with the size of the intended prey. Well, from the depth, large spinners, about 10 centimeters, are used exclusively at depths above 7-8 meters. There you can definitely catch a large pike and more.

Usually the sizes of winter spinners for pike are in the range from 3 to 11 centimeters. Weight ranges from 2 to 30 g. Of course, if you want to catch a very large fish, then you can use spinners and more than 15 centimeters, but this happens very rarely. When you go fishing in the middle of nowhere, leave all the heavy lures at home and take only the light ones.

Spinners for pike produce wide and narrow. Wide spinners have a peculiar game, they have a large windage, which attracts fish. Yes, and the frequency of oscillations of such a spinner is also liked by the predator. But do not underestimate the narrow spinners, they attract pike no worse than wide ones.

When choosing the color of the spinner, it is worth remembering that brighter is not always better. Very often pike are provoked only by baits with dull colors. If you fish at great depths, then choose light-colored spinners. If the sun is outside, then a close lure can also lure fish. The use of silver and gold baubles is considered a classic.
